Moving Day for the Bluebirds

To my delight every spring the Eastern Bluebirds will check out every birdhouse I have in my yard. For some reason they must go in each box and check them out until they find one they are happy with. Watching them trying to choose reminds me of Goldilocks and the three bears. I consider myself very lucky that they are choosing one of my birdhouses for their nest. It is a treat to see the bluebirds all thru spring and summer with their babies. The juveniles are so cute with their spotted chest begging for food from the adults. They eat insects, berries and they love mealy worms. In past years my bluebirds have had three broods. I have seen them move from house to house  for their second and third nest.

Thanks for stopping by my blog to see my Bluebird mosaic.

  2. Are they picking their first nest out now? I've just been seeing the first swallows back in my neck of the woods. I'm so happy spring is right around the corner! I knew successful pairs will sometimes have a second brood but it's downright amazing if they have the stamina to raise three sets of nestlings in a season!

  8. Birds are endlessly fascinating to me, too. I have a birdbath outside the studio window and watch them come and go all day as I work. They're delightful!

  22. These are wonderful photos of such beautiful subjects. Once, several years ago two blubirds visited our yard. An exciting and unusual occurance to for us. The next day I said to my husband, "I can't believe you haven't built s bluebird house, and so he did and a pair moved in, but did not stay for long. The next spring when we moved the birhouse snd there was something inside it. He turned the birdhouse over snd sn old egg fell out!. Apparently the bluebirds had tried to nest but for some reason they had left. Occasionally in the late spring we might see a Blubird perched on our fence, but they never stay. How lucky you are to have such beauty readily available!I enjoyed all of your bluebird photos. Ann
