ReplyDeleteheron rookeries are really neat! I'm so bad with duck identification, especially if they're far away. Looks like a fun day, nice shots of the river!
ReplyDeleteBig, and gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteand especially when the flock of birds starts flying at the ame time.
These are excellent.

ReplyDeleteLooks like a lot of activity going on in the heron rookery. I still have never seen a heron "in person." These are all beautiful images.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great place for a walk and discovering nature Eileen. Herons over here start early and are on eggs now.

ReplyDeleteThank You for your vist today, Your photos of the river are great. And I like the photos of the orioles also. Ours just came back from the south 2 days ago they let you know they are back, with all that yak yak they make. A beautiful bird indeed. Have a great day, Julian
ReplyDeleteThis would be such a beautiful place to wander! Lovely photos!
ReplyDeleteDid you do any white water rafting?
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautfiul place. Do the edges freeze over?
What a beautiful area to explore. I really like your photo of the of the heron rookery. That is an amazing sight.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see this beautiful area between Virginia and Maryland. What a wonderful place for the birds to enjoy.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely place! The heron rookery really looks interesting, with their huge nests in the trees. I imagine the trees will be leafing out shortly and you won't be able to see them so well, but it would be fun to see the babies.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great heron rookery! We had a similar large one near Butte (at Warm Springs Ponds), but the bald eagles wiped it out (they prey on the young herons) over a 2 - 3 year period. Visiting in Portland OR, and the same thing is happening to a big heron rookery we viewed on Ross Island.
ReplyDeleteWhat a treat to see a heron rookery! I wouldn't have expected them to have nests in trees. They seem more like the ground-nesting sort to me.
ReplyDeleteSuch an amazing place and captures Eillen!
ReplyDeleteJust came by. I'm still out of town.
Regards.
Thanks for allowing us to view the rookery and all your other lovely views virtually ... wonderful photo series.
