Birding Blackwater

On the way home New Years Day hubby and I stopped at the Blackwater Wildlife Refuge. The visitor center was closed but the drive was open. You never know what birds you might see at Blackwater, it seems different every time I go.

For my critter post I am showing what we saw at Blackwater NWR.... thousands of Snow Geese, adult and juvenile Bald Eagles, Great Blue Herons, ducks and thousands of Canada Geese.

Photos look better when you click for a larger image.

This not the greatest photo, but I thought it was funny the geese started flying right towards our car.

You can check out the eagle cam at the refuge here Blackwater NWR eagle cam follow the progress of the Eagles nest and when the first egg appears. It is pretty neat to watch.

They appear in the distance but there are two Great Blue Herons and one Juvenile Eagle in this photo below.

Thanks to Misty for hosting and thank you for stoipping by to see my critters.

  4. So glad I discovered your blog through Steve Creek Outdoors... what a super set of photographs. I love birds and am blessed with many that visit my feeders every day. At the moment it looks as if a storm is approaching because each one is filled with the flutter of about 100 goldfinches, chickadees, nuthatches, blue jays and juncos... I look forward to seeing more of your posts about birds and birding. My blog is http://primarilypets.blogspot.com and while it's not always about birds, there are some stories there you might enjoy. cheerio!

  6. Gorgeous geese, Eileen. Perfect camera critters, especially the eagle. A friend of mine has installed many eagle cams in my home province, BC, and it's wonderful to watch the eggs and the young ones.

  14. It's so much fun to see so many snow geese at once. I see them like that when I visit my son in the Skagit Valley in Washington. We're heading that way next week, so I hope the weather cooperates and I can get a few good photos.
