My yardbirds and a walk

I am linking up this post with  Mary's Mosaic Monday and  That's My World  it is of my recent yardbirds and a walk today along the fireroad to the lake.

It is Spring at least on the calendar, I am not sure if my yardbirds know it though. I am still seeing my winter birds and I am on the watch for any sign of my summer, migrants or my breeding birds. Some winter birds still here are the Juncos, White throated Sparrows and Pine Siskins and the Fox Sparrow.

Pictured in my yardbird mosaic are the male Pine Warlber, Junco, Bluejay, Chickadee, female Cardinal and a Fox Sparrow.

After watching my yardbirds in the early morning hubby and I drove around the lake for a walk on another fireroad. It was a pretty day with a beautiful blue sky but very cold temps were in the high 30's. Nice day for a brisk walk and I wanted to see a different part of the lake then the usual part we just walk to. Goldie Girl enjoys a car ride and the walking. I was happy to see my first of the year Eastern Phoebe.

I was hoping the fireroad would take us all the way to the lake but, the trail down to the lake was rocky and steep. I decided to let hubby and Goldie Girl take the small trail down to the lake edge. I stayed at the top and took a shot of the lake from the fireroad. Below is Goldie Girl huffing and puffing back up the steep hill.

Please join in and visit Mosaic Monday and That's My World.  Thanks to Mary of Mosaic Monday and to the gang at That's My World.

Also, thanks for stopping by and I hope everyone has a wonderful week.

  1. Hi, Eileen! Your yard birds are beautiful. I especially like the Pine Warbler. Mine seem to have left us for the summer.
I have been having a good time catching up on your blog. It is always so much fun.

  2. It looks like you and I had the same idea today -- going for a walk. Our weather sounds similar, too, except it was a few degrees colder here. Goldie Girl is a beautiful dog; I love her coloring. Although the trail we walked was maintained well, your fireroad looks in much better condition! At least there wasn't any snow and ice along the way! Your bird pictures are great!

  4. Enjoyed seeing the birds you see in your own yard. I saw my first robin today. He was wearing a parka and snow boots warming his hands over a fire he had going. Poor thing!

Nice spring walk...I'm sure that it was brisk. Even though she may have been huffing and puffing, your dog looks perfectly happy to be out for a walk.

  7. What a lovely walk - I'm attracted to the water too, especially at this time of year. I imagine that the view will be quite different when the leaves fill in.

  10. Eileen, I don't blame the birds for not migrating north yet! It's cold here still! But it's supposed to be warmer next week. :)

  21. I share your longing for the spring migrants, Eileen, but would be happy with a winter bird, the Fox Sparrow, which I haven't seen since briefly last fall.

  26. Your spring is not so far ahead of ours in Michigan. We're seeing a lot of spring courtship displays, and migratory species are stopping here on their way north. I haven't gotten such good photos of the yard birds as yours, though.

Wonderful mosaic Eillen. Your walk looked peaceful. I wouldn't have wanted to climb back up a steep hill either, and would have waited at the top like you did! ;)

  35. You know what Eileen -- on my I Google home page I have a little gadget from 'my birding place.com' that has rotating professional bird photos. Most of them are not nearly as good as yours.

    Thanks for sharing yours; .

  43. I was trying to remember if I see juncos in the summer. It's been fun seeing the chickadees. I don't remember seeing them around in the past. We've been inconsistent with our winter feeding efforts up until the last few years.
