I am linking up with Green Day and Camera Critters and I'd-Rather-B-Birdin.
Last weekend hubby and I drove to Bombay Hook NWR for just the day. This wildlife refuge in Delaware is one of my favorite ones to visit next to Edwin Forsythe in NJ. For just a day trip Delaware is much closer to Maryland than New Jersey. We enjoyed the woodland walk and boardwalk and driving the wildlife drive.
These are just a few of the birds we saw: Great Blue Heron, lots of Carolina Wrens and Yellow Rump Warblers and a few Northern Harriers, Canada Geese and various ducks. I was surprised to still see some beautiful Autumn colors.
Yellow Rump Warbler, there were lots of these birds all over the refuge.
One Carolina Wren said to the other quick turn your head its that lady with the camera.
We climbed the tower to see this pretty and colorful reflection. The weather was perfect and a big plus... there were NO BUGS.
A fair distance away is one of the few Northern Harrier's we spotted along the drive. But, even the bird is far away I still like the scene.
I am not sure why but for some reason I thought the beak on this Great Blue Heron looked longer that what I am used to seeing. Maybe it is the shadow of the grasses on the beak?
Above is a large flock of Canada Geese and maybe some Northern Shovelers, Black Ducks and Mallards.
I hope you enjoyed my tour of Bombay Hook to see the birds. The scenery is pretty too, we enjoyed the day.

ReplyDeleteLove the Fall colors and the reflections...
YES---that heron does have a long beak....????
Have a great weekend.
Hugs,
Betsy
Beautiful photos . . . the reflections so lovely.
ReplyDeleteGreat captures Eileen. I suspect the shadows from the grass are giving the Heron's beak a different coloration and perspective. Nevertheless, it's an awesome capture.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place to visit! Great shots of the different birds and the views!
ReplyDeleteYou really are fortunate to have such pretty places to go to. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteI think the heron's beak is probably an optical illusion: the angled blade of grass is accentuating it. Very nice photos, I especially like the camera-shy one! Beautiful detail of his plumage even if his face is hidden!! Have a great weekend x
ReplyDeleteMuito lindas, alegra os olhos passar aqui! beijos, chica

Hello Eileen, thanks for appreciating some of my shots! It is not often that seasoned photographers appreciate them, LOL. Those reflections i love so much, but that second shot, why is the top bird stepping on the other bird's neck? Is it real or just because of the distance!
ReplyDeleteVery good report, great photos =)
ReplyDeleteLove the nature and the animals
Wonderful autumn colours and a graceful heron!
ReplyDeleteWonderful beautiful photos. The blue sky in the first picture is so blue and so pretty.

ReplyDeletelooks like another one of your fabulous days out with lovely blue skies Eileen. That harrier sure looks in the right environment for a spot of gliding over the landscape. Have a great weekend - Saturday evening here already.
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty shots!
ReplyDeleteEileen, again, I'm here to send along my thanks for linking up at the Bird D'Pot this week.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful set of perfectly beautiful photos! Very nice work.
ReplyDeleteFall colors are definitely making it to your neck of the woods. You aren't seeing things, the Great Blue Heron's beak does look longer than normal.
ReplyDeleteGrand feel of autumn in these.
ReplyDeletewonderful reflection photo in the 2nd to the last one, your wildlife are always very inspiring, you are so blessed to be always out and enjoy these scenery.
ReplyDeleteThe heron's beak made me look twice but I think you're right about that shadow causing an illusion.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely place! Great shots. Love the reflections too.
Maraviloso!
Un abrazo.

ReplyDeletei especially like the shadows dancing across the Great Blue Heron!!
happy sunday!!
Ah! You still have some reds and rusts on your trees! Love the heron. Would you believe I actually saw and photographed a heron here yesterday? Seems like it ought to have left for the south a while ago.
ReplyDeleteYour photos belong on a calendar or in a mag,the autumn views are breathtaking.
ReplyDeleteThe wrens are so fast!I had a hard time getting them to pose for the camera yesterday.
Thank-you for sharing, someday I`d like to get out of my comfort zone to photograph different birds that I don`t see here, phyllis
This makes me want to take a walk in one of the local conservation areas. Meanwhile, I put some seed in the birdfeeder for the first time this season.
ReplyDeleteLovely scenes. The reflections are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI laughed out loud at the caption on your wren shot... Beautiful fall colors!
ReplyDeleteHi Eileen, I have met your wrens. They wait, posing provocatively while I get the camera out, check the settings, line it up, get the picture framed, but as soon as the camera focusses, voomph, gone.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place! Getting those wrens to sit still is a challenge.
ReplyDeleteAmazing Autumn pictures with clever birds and wonderful colors in the trees. Beautiful landscape too. Have a nice Sunday, Eileen.
ReplyDeleteOh wow! You go to some of the best places:) That Carolina Wren shot is awesome. I have never seen one before. If you ever come to AZ down in Tucson, let's all of us go for a hike. Enjoy the cool cool temps. I've been so happy that the hot sun is gone now. It has made it hard to be on the computer:)
ReplyDeleteAdmire your shots, Eileen :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit.
