Linking up with NF Winged and Skywatch Friday
Since it is officially Spring, I want to wish everyone Happy Spring, Happy Passover and Happy Easter to my blogging friends.
These are the skies from the past week the skies over my yard, the vultures are always here. Both Black Vultures and Turkey Vultures are hanging around in high numbers.
I was worried that some of the vultures are landing in same trees that the Great Blue Herons have their nest. I can only assume that they get along well.
This shot was taken on the same day as the shot above with the vultures and if you look in the top right corner of the photo you can just barely make out black dots.... more vultures flying around.
When I first took this shot of the heron nest, I thought it was empty. But, if you look closely ( or click for a bigger photo) on the left side of the nest you can see the heron beak and the top of the heron's head. Looks like a cute mommy.
Our weather has been all over the place lately. Sometimes it is warm or it can be very cold. We have had lots of rain or snow showers. No real signs of Spring here, I do see the daffodils are just coming out of the ground but no blooms yet.
I love to see a real pretty blue sky with some awesome looking clouds.
For NF Winged, beside the vultures, I have another one of my woodies, this is the female Downy Woodpecker just outside my dining room window.
The last two mornings, I have been catching the nearly full moon setting. It does look beautiful.
This Wednesday morning there were some thin clouds around the moon creating shadow spots on the moon. I hope you enjoyed my post and skies. Thanks for stopping by and for leaving your nice comments.
Happy Skywatching and Happy Spring to everyone!

ReplyDeleteMy goodness! I have never seen so many vultures at once. Last summer there were 7 flying over my house, and I thought that was alot. Wow! What an awesome photo!

ReplyDeleteDimi..
Always . . . great photos . . . loved looking closely at the Heron nest, just to "make sure" and the moon pics . . . wonderful indeed!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if vultures like taking over old heron nests. I know Long-eared owls sometimes do. So a heron is back. I have actually seen a great blue heron this year too. Now I KNOW spring is on it's way.
ReplyDeleteWow, those are all superb shots!
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of vultures... Great shots! Happy Easter :)
ReplyDeleteThat is A LOT of vultures!! I love the Downy Woodpecker pic. And the Moon shots are incredible!
ReplyDeletei love all the vultures spiraling! so cool! and LOVE your moon shot, too!
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of Vultures. We usually have two or three dozen here every year. They perch in a dead tree about a block from our house! Love your Moon shots.
ReplyDeleteWOW, many vultures indeed!
ReplyDeleteI don't think the herons should fear them, they are scavengers mainly.
A great series, I like the moon shots too!
That's a lot of vultures! Beautiful moon captures!
ReplyDeleteLove the sky shots, especially the 2nd one! You did a great job of photographing the heron nest. I've never seen one.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing all the vultures circling in your skies!! But then, I love seeing birds in large numbers, whatever species they may be...
ReplyDeleteThe second image of the moon is simply breath-taking! I love those clouds!!!
All those vultures! It must be Spring for them Eileen. Are they heading north or is that number usual for you at this time of year? It's a great shot of them all circling like that.
ReplyDeleteAmazing to see the sheer numbers of vultures you have. The pink sky shot is so pretty and the downy woodpecker focus is perfect! A wonderful series of photos you have posted today. A very Happy Easter to you, Eileen!
ReplyDeleteThat is a lot of vultures! Wow! Our weather has been all over the place lately as well. I just want it to be warm and feel like spring. Love those moon shots, so pretty!
ReplyDeleteYour sky and moon shots are gorgeous! And that heron nest is so cool! I hope you get to photograph the babies, too.
ReplyDeleteHi Eileen...Just lovely skies, birds, moon and clouds!!

Great moon! I am going to try tonight to photograph it. It is not my strength. Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteHi There, Hope the Vultures don't bother the Herons.. I don't think they will... At least I HOPE not...
ReplyDeleteGreat set of pictures, and your moon pictures are great.
Our recent cold weather did a 'number' on our Daffodils. Some may come back and some not....
Hugs,
Betsy
It's been cooler than usual in SW Florida for the month of March .. odd weather patterns.
ReplyDeleteI'd worry about the vultures and the herons a bit, but I guess as long as the babies are alive and peeping they will leave them alone.
Hope you are able to photograph the babies as the grow.
You certainly have a lot of vultures (of the feathered variety) in your neighborhood. I could see the heron in the nest. I really like your sky and moon photos.
ReplyDeleteIs this really on this world? It looks like paradise! Great, great photos! Christa
