Long-Tailed Ducks

I am linking up with Wild Bird Wednesday and Nature Notes

During our weekend away to Ocean City, Maryland we drove down the coastal highway to the Indian River inlet in Delaware. Hubby was interested in the big waves caused by a storm out in the Atlantic and I was looking for the birds any kind duck or pelagic bird.

The Long-tailed ducks were bobbing up and down with the wave action at the Indian River inlet.

A good view of the tail on the male Long-tailed duck. They are one of the prettier ducks I have seen. The adult male has a white head, tan face and a brown neck patch. The body is white with dark wings.

For some reason these Long-tailed duck especially like being at this inlet.

The waves on the other side of the inlet looked pretty rough. Hard to believe there were some surfers enjoying these big waves.

In flight they have dark underwings on both the male and female. I hope you enjoyed my Long-tailed ducks.

  48. I always find it so amazing, and such fun to see birds here in the USA, that we here in KY never get to see, and yet they are right here, somewhere, nearby;') At last a couple of states away, and the Long-tailed Ducks, how cool is that!
