I am linking up with Mosaic Monday and Our World Tuesday
Both hubby and I love to visit the National Parks and the Wildlife refuges but it looks like this battle going on with the federal budget will be affecting our visits to both the national parks and to the national wildlife refuges like Blackwater NWR.
Above are some of the pretty scenes and wildlife we enjoyed during our visit yesterday to Blackwater National wildlife refuge. Do you take time to enjoy the wildlife and scenery around you? The National Parks in the United States are beautiful places to visit and I also enjoy seeing the many wildlife refuges in the national Wildlife Refuge system.
The Northern Shoveler is a pretty duck, it has a beautiful green head, white breast and rusty sides. It also has a spatulate bill which is neat looking.
Here is a good look at the Shoveler's beak..
We saw many ducks like the Northern Shovelers, Buffleheads, Mallards, Ring-necked Ducks and Mute Swans. The Bald Eagles are nesting at Blackwater NWR and we also saw a White Pelican. I would be very sad if the government closes the wildlife refuges. Especially if they close only on the weekends which is the only time I am able to visit since I work Monday thru Friday. Not to mention during my next vacation we were planning on visiting the Everglades National Park and the Ding Darling National Wildlife refuge.
I like this shot of the Great Blue Heron. He/she is posing so elegantly. I think the wildlife will not be bothered at all with what is going on with Congress.I hope you enjoyed my wildlife and birds of Blackwater.
Join in on the fun and for more wonderful photos please visit Mosaic Monday and more from Our World Tuesday
Thanks to our host: Mary our host of Mosaic Monday and to the hosting group of Our World Tuesday: Arija, Gattina, Lady Fi, Sylvia, Sandy and Jennifer. Thanks also for stopping by to see my post. I wish everyone a happy week!

ReplyDeleteGovernments and their ideas get you so mad sometime. Closing Wildlife refuges is a stupid idea. Your photos however are not. Valerie

ReplyDeleteCutbacks everywhere; I hope they don't affect the refuge parks you like to visit Eileen.
ReplyDeleteJudith
National Parks are such a treasure for us to enjoy. We are also having parks closed here in Canada. Wonderful picture of your day at the park. Take care, Jen

Beautiful shots of birds. They are having real good time.
ReplyDeleteWow, lovely candid photos. We enjoy going to Natl Parks and always take our 'passport' to get it stamped while there. I've never seen Shovelers- wonderful! I will have to see where the closest WLR is located. Happy March :)

ReplyDeleteI do love shovelers - that bill is huge!
ReplyDeleteStewart M - Melbourne, Australia
beautiful photos it looks a lovely place to visit,
ReplyDeletethose are cute ducks, so many delightful birds in one place is a joy to see
ReplyDeleteI'd never heard of a Shoveler duck - your side profile shows its bill well. I hope the birds continue to grow in numbers and thrive.
ReplyDeleteNices pictures and beautiful place to take photos.. A regard..
ReplyDeleteThe Northern Shoveler with its spatulate bill is a duck I had never heard of and what an interesting one. I can always count on learning something new here in addition to the wonderful photos and mosaics.
ReplyDeleteThe Northern shoveler is something we don't get to see anymore living in the south...beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteNational Parks are certainly wonderful places to get out and see nature at its best. I am looking forward to cooler days so we can go bush walking again. This summer has been far too hot and you certainly wouldn't bush walk in Australia's summer heat. We have a few trips on the planning board though.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week and thanks for stopping by my blog today Eileen.
It is a paradise of wild lives.
ReplyDeleteLovely! I've never seen a shoveler, but supposedly we could see them during migration...
ReplyDeleteIt's just restful taking the time to view your amazing photos! THanks!
ReplyDeleteOOh I just know I am gonna be back to read your blog.
ReplyDeleteCan you link me to anywhere on your blog of your system you have re keeping a record of the birds you have seen. Thanks love leanne
Lovely photos / I enjoyed this post so much! The ducks are cute!
ReplyDeleteI've only seen the shoveler once and that was in Texas. I need to see if they live or winter here. You got some beautiful shots here.
ReplyDeleteSince you said that about the budget cuts, I wonder if our wildlife management areas are affected? I visit them quite frequently. I'll be so sad if they shut them down!
All of your photos are wonderful but I am particularly fond of the Great Blue Heron. What a magnificent bird!
ReplyDeleteI love ducks and herons! You got some really great shots :) I hope the fiscal mess doesn't affect your local parks too bad!
ReplyDeleteThey are handsome ducks!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteOh, so many lovely water birds. That heron is awesome.
ReplyDeleteWonderful shots. A sad day indeed if these areas are closed.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos and beautiful places to visit.

Wonderful birds and such a variety!! I love the blue heron! Terrific captures as always, Eileen!! Hope you have a lovely week!
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos, I love those great shots of the beautiful ducks. Greetings.
ReplyDeleteI too enjoy visiting wildlife areas. There are many near where I live, a few cared for by the federal government, some by the Province of Ontario and many by local municipalities. I'm lucky that I live near so many lakes with lots of spots maintained for tourists.
ReplyDeletebeautiful shots of wildlife. you do this amazingly. i hear you about the budget cuts and the closures or less hours for parks.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great photo opportunity!
ReplyDeleteThe heron does look elegant in the last shot.
Your pictures are beautiful. I pray that the senate/house get their act together and soon....
ReplyDeleteWe love Ding Darling (I can't believe we haven't been there this season yet). It's a day trip for us. and also of course the Everglades. When are you planning your Florida vacation?
I enjoy visiting national parks and wildlife refuges. I agree that they are beautiful places to visit. I am hoping that the government doesn't close Cuyahoga National Park in Ohio. We are planning a weekend there later this month.
ReplyDeleteAs always, I enjoyed seeing your wildlife pictures.
Blackwaters?! Interesting name! The duck pics are nice.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beauty of shot, Eileen!
ReplyDeleteI love them...
Warm greetings from Holland,

ReplyDeleteHi again - I think cricket is in the same league as baseball in term of incomprehensibility!
ReplyDeleteSigning off from the bottom of the Ninth with the bases stacked - or something!
Cheers - Stewart M - Melbourne
Pretty images Eileen!!! The N. Shoveler is one of my husband's favorites.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping that the parks won't be too badly affected with the government cuts other than jobs...no, I'm not wishing for those to lose their jobs, I'm just hoping that the parks will remain open to the public.
The white pelican is so cute ... great capture as always, Eileen!
