Around the Yard

Linking up with NF Winged   and  Skywatch Friday

This weekend is Memorial Weekend, I wish everyone that celebrates a safe and happy holiday.

Just sharing some of the skies and scenes around my yard. And of course, I have to throw in some of my yardbirds.

Above you can see the Great Blue Heron's butt, it is in the nest across from my neighbor's yard. I see the herons fly across my yard and then I will hear the clucking and chatter from the baby herons. I have also found a second nest not too far away.

Above are a couple of male Cardinals and a male House Finch.

Lots of red in this post, above is one of my favorite birds the Rose-breasted Grosbeak.

The sky and trees around my yard this evening.

Around the side of our yard are the big rhododendron bushes.

  2. What a great moon shot, Eileen. And I so agree, those Grosbeaks are charming. We have a couple pairs that come to nest each spring. We so enjoy watching them.
Have you noticed the females almost look kind of "mean" with that striping by their eyes?

  3. Love seeing the views from home . . . Cardinals, Finch, Grosbeek and Herons make you a lucky Eileen! Clouds and Rhodies too . . .

  5. Ah I just love seeing the birds in your world, Eileen. How wonderful to see your Grossbeak. We don't have them INSIDE of Africa, so to speak. The Sao Tome Grossbeak is on the island Sao Tome just below the bulge of West Africa; the Somali Golden-winged Grossbeak is in Somalia right on the coast of East Africa - in a little horn-shaped part of the country; and the Socotra Golden-winged Grossbeak is on the Island Socotra which is IN the Indian Ocean off the East African coast! We've landed many times on Sae Tome but in transit to and from South Africa. I would LOVE to visit this island for the unique sun birds and seed-eaters such as the ST Grossbeak. I know not many people would be interested in my long comment about birds, but I'm sure you are! (Birders love info about birds!) Have a great day. Jo

  16. Gorgeous, Eileen. Love your blue skies. We've had SO much rain lately that blue skies are rare here.

Your Grosbeak looks a little tattered, doesn't he???? Love Cardinals---and enjoy hearing their little 'chip' sounds when they come to the feeders.

    Hugs,

  44. Hello Eileen, i am desperate in taking shots of the moon, but once i got a very vivid full moon i took in between close tree trunks, and i am so awed with the outcome, it was so clear and vivid and looking really like floating in space. The sad part is i can't remember my settings and the data in the "properties" section is not enough. Back to zero i can't repeat it, hahaha! Happy Weekend as well.

  47. There was a lot of fun stuff going on in your yard this week! I must say, I don't believe I've ever been mooned by a heron before! :-) (And speaking of moons, that nearly-full moon photo is a beauty!) And baby herons - how fun they must be to have as neighbors! Hope you'll get a photo of them sometime. LOVE the cardinals, they're always a favorite, and the closeup of the Grosbeak is delightful!

Enjoy your long weekend and happy Sky (and bird) Watching!
