Florida Whistling Ducks

I am linking up with Wild Bird Wednesday and Nature Notes

For this week's wild bird I am featuring one of my favorites..the Black bellied Whistling Duck. We saw my favorite duck nearby the Venice Audubon Rookery while vacationing in Florida.

I am not sure what it is about these ducks but, they are so darn cute. They have the cutest eyes and beak, their legs look pink and the have the black belly. You can't help but to love them, I do.

In this spot across from the rookery I noticed the Black Bellied Whistling ducks, a few White Ibis and there were some Glossy Ibis also nearby. Seeing the Whistling Ducks made my day.

I hope you enjoyed my Black bellied Whistling Ducks.

  12. I'm with you Eileen!! I LOVE these ducks!! I've never seen one in real life - pretty amazing that they are now in Florida. Either you or TexWisGirl said that Hurricane Katrina blew a flock to Florida. She has posted a lot of these funny, long legged, orange legs and billed feathered creatures that whistle instead of quack!!!

  23. Those whistlers are adorable! Great shots Eileen. Thanks for stopping by my raccoon post. I forgot to put my bird feeders away last night. One was already empty and the other was the thistle sock. Well, they (I am assuming it was the raccoons) had shredded the sock and it was lying on the deck along with a whole pile of thistle. I guess they weren't too keen on it but the doves were enjoying the seed when I got up this morning :)

  47. My first thought when I see them is that they're the golden retrievers of the duck world. As you say, just so darn cute. Or, they also remind me of stuffed toy animals. Like their vocals too.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I also saw these in Central Florida; they were a bit shy; but I managed to get a few shots.
