I am linking up with Wild Bird Wednesday and Nature Notes
This week I am featuring the Horned Grebe I saw while at the Ocean City Inlet.
The Grebes are one of my favorite birds, as least my favorite at the time of the sighting..
Look at that eye, isn't it cool? Looks almost alien like... neat scarlet eyes. The Horned Grebe is a small water bird. And an excellent swimmer and diver.
Their plumage is unmistakable in the summer, when both the male and female have a black head with brown puffy earlike tufts
I hope you enjoyed seeing the Horned Grebe as much as I did! Thanks for stopping by my post and for all the nice comments.

Grebes are so interesting -- we see them in Oregon -- but have never heard of the 'horned one. They are really cute .. would love to spot them in real life.
ReplyDeleteHello Eileen!
ReplyDeleteThese shots are just fantastic!
I am happy to discover here this Horned grebe who can't be much bigger than our Little grebe!
The eye is indeed incredible!
A cute alien I'd love to see one day!! LOL!

He's lovely! I don't remember ever seeing one.
ReplyDeleteWonderful shots! The colour of the eyes is very cool. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteHi Eileen, I sure do like Grebes. I used to see these lively divers a lot on Lake St. George where I used to live up in Tennessee. Your pictures are quite good. Have a pleasant day today and another good one tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteThis grebe is a stunner when in its full breeding gear. Beautiful water birds!
ReplyDeletea lucky grebe..we lost so many in this area this winter...love the eyes..Michelle
ReplyDeleteThey eye is most definitely a deep, bright scarlet red!!
ReplyDeleteI love all of the Grebes. The Horned Grebs are probably the most spectacular but I don't see them often aroumd here ( I agree the red eye is amazing). My favorite is probably the Pied-Billed Grebe ... they are just too cute and we do see them here often. Great pictures
ReplyDeleteIts a lovely species and one that I haven't seen for a while, tfs
ReplyDeleteDave
I love them to. We are fortunate to have a few couples breeding close to my home. But ir will take another month before they arrive I think.
ReplyDeleteThey spend their winters in Texas, but I have yet to see one. Those are some wickedly amazing eyes.
ReplyDeleteGreat series.
