Sandhill Crane

Linking up with Wild Bird Wednesday and Nature Notes

For this week's wild bird I am featuring the Sandhill Crane..

If you have been following my posts you would have seen a few weeks back I went on a wild goose crane chase here in Maryland.. It was too foggy to see the Sandhill Cranes.. I was not too worried about missing the Sandhill Cranes I have already seen them here in Maryland.

This Sandhill Crane above was seen on private property in Carroll County, Maryland.

This Sandhill Crane was seen in a local Maryland park..

I saw them in Florida. This Sandhill Crane family was seen off of the road to Myakka River State Park in Florida.

This Sandhill Crane was seen in my SIL's Florida development walking around the golf course.

These Sandhill Cranes were seen at the Bitter Lake NWR in New Mexico. This shot only shows a few of the Cranes we saw here..They were all over the place.

More Sandhill Cranes from the Bosque Del Apache NWR in New Mexico..

More New Mexico Sandhill Cranes with some Snow Geese.. I love the colors in this shot..I saw thousands of these Cranes in New Mexico.. I am not the kind of birder that keeps a list for the year, state and or the counties they are seen in.  I have one life list for all the birds I see. I read somewhere there are nicknames for certain kinds of birders.. I wonder what kind of birder I am, I should be called the fair weather birder..

I hope you enjoyed my wild bird post.. Till next week's wild bird post.. I wish you happy Birding and have a wonderful week!

  4. Those are some pretty colors in that bottom shot.
You want to see a LOT of cranes--head to Nebraska in Mid-March. They estimate over 600,000 cranes. It's spectacular. Hubby and I have been there several times--it's an awesome spectacle.

  29. I don't think of you as a fairweather birder Eileen. Your photos are always a lot of fun to see, and you have taken some gorgeous photos of them, these included. The only time I have ever seen a Sandhill Crane was when I was down in Florida the last time we were there in January of last year. it was exciting, and I do get excited when I see a bird I have never seen before. I didn't know they came up to Maryland. Great post and happy weekend to you :)
