We have one that spends it's day in a swamp down the road from us. We started noticing it on our walks last summer. I hope he returns this year. They are fun to watch.

ReplyDeleteI always think of a super hero when I hear 'green heron' (like the Green Hornet)...what can I say, I have an imagination. I'm a writer.
ReplyDeleteIs this guy also called a tricolor, or is that a distinct species? I'm not much for names...but I click so many of these guys, I probably ought to know what they are (he thinks)
Hello, Yes, the tri-colored heron is a different species.. They are larger birds in height than the Green Heron. They are all pretty to see!

ReplyDeleteI love the action in photo number 3, I only have a few photos of this green heron. 2 are almost identical to yours over the green slime pond and one is on a rope to a boat.

ReplyDeleteThese green herons are little beauties! On my families property we had two creeks bordering either side of us. We often saw the little green heron flying from one creek, across our field and down into the other creek. Good memories :) Wendy

ReplyDeleteyou're right eileen, it is a beauty and a very rare sighting for me. i have only seen them a few times. they really show off some rich, deep colors.....you have an amazing collection of pictures!!!

ReplyDeleteHi Eileen, Great photos of the Green Heron. We have the Blue Heron here in the Pacific Northwest but I can't recall seeing a Green out here. I do believe the Green is more beautiful than the Blue. Thanks for sharing these photos. John
