Linking up with Skywatch Friday and Good Fences
Hello, another break from vacation photos, I am sharing some Gettysburg Pennsylvania photos. Also time for sharing some Skywatch photos for Skywatch Friday and some fence scenes for Tex's Good Fences memes.
On March 11th, hubby and I visited the Gettsyburg National Battlefield and drove some of the auto tour..We can drive to Gettsyburg Pa under an hour, it is a nice place to spend the day..
LOL, an American Kestrel sky. A Kestrel perched on at statue at Gettysburg Battlefield.
From the Gettysburg tour road, fences are all over, I love the red barn and the big evergreen tree.
It was a cloudy day we when visited Gettysburg and this supposedly haunted covered bridge called Sachs Covered Bridge.
The Blue Jays and Robins, Redbellied Woodpeckers and a Redheaded Woodpecker were seen all around the battlefield auto tour.
Above you can still see the Kestrel perched on top of the Soldier's hat. Some days we just have to put up with the gray skies..At least it was not snowing at the time of our visit..
Above a view of the Pennsylvania countryside, battlefield, trees, fences, snow and mountains in the distance..
According to the legend three Confederate Soldiers convicted of being spies were hung from the beams in the covered bridge. Their bodies were recovered by the Unions soldiers.. It is said their spirits haunt the bridge and sometimes people have said General Lee's pipe smoke can be smelled on the bridge..
There are many barns and old homesteads on the Gettysburg battlefield, some still standing have an old bullet hole in the house or barn.
The belly band is a tip to iding the Red-tailed hawk. Even though this is not a great photo I wanted to include photo of the birds I saw while touring the battlefield..
The statues of the soldiers are one of my favorite parts of touring the Gettysburg Battlefield..This soldier looks to be riding into my scene...
I hope you enjoyed some of our auto tour and thanks for stopping by and for the nice comments..

ReplyDeleteOi Eileen, as imagens dos pássaros estão lindas, aliás, todas as fotos estão maravilhosas!
ReplyDeleteHorripilante a ideia de visitar um local mal assombrado, mas deve ser uma experiência ótima.
Beijos...
What an amazing place full of history. I've always wanted to go here. Great photos.
ReplyDeleteThe kestrel makes the monument perfect!
ReplyDeleteSuch triangular snow fences we have too in the Harz-Mountains, but I've never seen a covered bridge inB Germany..
Thanks for sharing your adventure :-)
Gettysburg is one of my favorite places. There's something so moving about being on the battlefield. You really can imagine the troops on the field during those awful three days. Pennsylvania is full of wonderful old barns. Enjoyed this post!
ReplyDeleteHi Eileen, Oh you captured some wonderful shots in PA. Love the statues too and the old barn and covered bridge is amazing. Great shot of the Kestrel on the statue. Looks like you had an incredible time. I have never been but would love to visit here. My parents were both born in PA.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday!
CM
First of all, thanks for telling how you knew that was a red-tailed hawk. Always wonder how people identify the hawks.
ReplyDeleteI love that red barn, and the covered bridge is beautiful. And so many lovely fences. I really enjoyed my visit.
the bridge is a beauty and i would love to smell that pipe smoke and the fence and soldier in the last photo are also beautiful. have never visited this, but my hubby grew up not far from it.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful images, especially the American , superb.
ReplyDeleteWow, Eileen. These are beautiful photos. The Kestrel makes me giggle perched on top!
ReplyDeleteYour bird captures today all have that, look at me I'm proud to be me! Life is so good! My absolute favorite is your first photo! Enjoy your day, your pics have made mine a whole lot brighter!
ReplyDeleteLovely scenery and I had to smile at that kestrel.
ReplyDeleteKestrel on the statue is fantastic, Eileen!
ReplyDelete~
what a great place to visit and a big piece of history. love the rural scenes and fences and the covered bridge, too. thanks, eileen!
ReplyDeleteHello Eileen,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures of the landscape.
I have to laugh at the Kestrel on top of the statue.
The Blue Jay is perfectly captured.
Very much enjoyed. HOpe to visit one day, before McDonald arches... overshadow the reserve. The setting brings to mind the viciousness that's building in American politics today. I can't remember there being so much anger on both sides.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed seeing Gettysburg. It has been several years since I was there. A beautiful, but sad, area.
ReplyDeletewonderful captures of the birds - you must have a good lens on your camera!
ReplyDeleteDearest Eileen; Oh, Gettsyburg National Battlefield, I only knew the name of the place from the famous address by 'Abraham Lincoln' :-) Yes, I smiled with the Kestrel on top of the statue, too♫♫♫
ReplyDeleteHistory of the three Confederate Soldiers impressed me as I think we have quite many related with old samurai :-)
Thank you very much for sharing the wonderful pictures of the place I wouldn't have a chance to see☆☆☆
Sending Lots of Love and Hugs from Japan to my Dear friend in America, xoxo Miyako*

Such beautiful photos of a wonderful place so full of history! I like that Kestrel and all the cool fences!
ReplyDeleteWe were at the Gettysburg Battlefield in 2007 during our acroos-the-States tour. It was very impressive, but also sad when you think about how many people died during those three days. I lvoe your bird photos - the American Kestrel is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteA delightful of Ray pictures you took.
ReplyDeleteLike all your images that pertain in most of your photos and your brick fence and the birds.
Thumbs up for all.
I've never been to Gettysburg so this was a real treat for me Eileen.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your wonderful tour!
My husband and I have talked about going to Gettysburg. It is a 4-hour or so drive for us. I have a flourless friends who enjoy going to Gettysburg whenever they can. I am going to share this blog post on Facebook with them.
ReplyDeleteI love these scenes from Gettysburg ... stirs up so many thoughts of what transpired on these very open fields. The barn and covered bridge are magnificent and the fences are amazing. But, all that said, my favorites, of course, are the Male Kestrel and the Red Tail ... love those Raptors :) Wonderful post, Eileen.

Sorry Eileen, I realise I've so busy it's been a while since I left a comment here ;-)
ReplyDeleteThe Florida scrub jay is gorgeous and your landscape photos wonderful even if the sun was not shining!
sometimes, photos look even better without it!
Lovely post :)
Keep well and thanks for your good wishes!!
Love the barn scene and also the covered bridge. Beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteSuch a great historical site in the beautiful Pennsylvania countryside. Nice shots.
ReplyDeleteYou saw a lot of birds on and near the battlefield!
ReplyDeleteHello Eileen!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely trip you had!!Very interesting indeed!Great captures of the birds and the beautiful landscapes!Thank you for sharing!
Dimi...
Wonderful photos! Love the kestrel. The covered bridge is so interesting! I've never read that there was a hanging, but it could have happened. Cool that they say the bridge is haunted, especially that you can smell Lee's pipe smoke!
ReplyDeleteI really liked your photos of the farms and area Eileen. The driving tour sounds like a great idea. Love the statues (and the kestrel!). Enjoy your day:)
ReplyDeleteWendy
Great pictures, Eileen...the one with the bird on the top of the hat is really a good one.
ReplyDeleteThis was so cool. I visited Gettysburg National Park many years ago while visiting a Penpal and this brought back some great memories of that trip. The fences are so cool there and I liked the shot of the Kestrel on the statue.
ReplyDeleteA great mix Eileen. History, birds and photography. I think the kestrel atop the statue is just brilliant. Those statues must be some size as the kestrel looks tiny.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your photos. I've never been to Gettysburg. I love the covered bridge!
ReplyDeletethose criss-crossed fences, wonder how old they are, and covered bridge, what a story.
ReplyDeleteInteresting place to visit and like the covered bridge. Regards.
ReplyDeleteSplendid pictures, Eileen! I would love to visit Gettysburg someday.
ReplyDeleteWonderful, historic place, delightful birds and terrific captures as always! Looks like a great trip!! The gray skies look a lot like ours for the past few days! Hope you have a lovely weekend!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your photos of the battLefield. Looks like a neat place to visit. Love the covered bridge--too bad about the Confederate soldiers though.
ReplyDeleteHi Eileen! Thanks for visiting my blogpost! I'm glad you enjoyed the views with me!
ReplyDeleteI know I have so enjoyed seeing more of Pennsylvania and the battlefields of Gettysburg, a place I want to visit.
I love covered bridges too so that was great!
Have a wonderful day!
It's been years since I've been to Gettysburg, but I sure would like to get back there. Thanks for your wonderful photos of the battlefield, birds and fences.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your "Day at Gettysburg" Eileen .... lovely snaps
ReplyDeleteOh love the birds - and the covered bridge - looks like a wonderful tour.
ReplyDeleteGreat images and loved the stories of the haunted covered bridge as well.
ReplyDeleteVery nice series. I love the Kestrel in the first photo !
ReplyDeleteInteresting post with some interesting fences. I like the covered bridges as that is something we don't see here in south Texas. It took me a long time to figure out why there were covered bridges having always lived here in dry hot weather.
ReplyDeletefabulous shots of the fences, bird on the statute and that covered bridge!
ReplyDeleteWe have not been there and I would love to go. Almost feels as if I were walking along with you. It really personalizes it because you show the birds along with the amazing history.
ReplyDeleteDignified and lovely

I live very near Gettysburg but haven't been there for a very long time..Enjoyed your photos..Good reminder..
ReplyDeleteOoh I feel cold looking at those pics today. I can't imagine what it might be look in that period when the snow begins to melt.
ReplyDeleteThe Kestrel shot is awesome! LOL! I love the fences and that covered bridge!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots.
ReplyDeleteLove that red covered bridge - haunted or not, it's a beauty!
ReplyDeleteGettysburg is on my bucket list. I've seen Vicksburg and the old battlefield is haunting.
ReplyDeleteInteresting tour! I have been to Gettysburg several times but have not seen the covered bridge.
ReplyDeleteI would love to go there someday. The covered bridge is very pretty.
ReplyDeleteHI Eileen, I love the pops of red coloured buildings against the otherwise gray looking days. I hope you had a great time. Seems you've been travelling a lot and it makes for wonderful photo opportunities. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteGreat capture of the bird on the statue's helmet. I love those covered bridges; we don't have them here. That place offered lots of terrific material for fence photography.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty, if a bit eerie, place! Love the kestrel - such a beautiful bird. I did not know about the belly band to ID the red-tail. I learn something new every time I come here! Love the haunted bridge.
ReplyDeletelol, that Kestrel found itself a great place for watching the land :)
ReplyDeleteLove that kind of bridge. We don´t have them in Sweden :)
Hi! I just love your photos and especially of the old fences! I just love old time fencing! And that bird is an awesome shot too, especially in the photo on down while it's still on his head lol.
ReplyDelete-Lisa
Beautiful photos, Eileen, of your visit to Gettysburg. I really love the one of the first and second pics; the first for its surprise subject and the second for that stunning but quiet countryside, the red barn and white houses, as well as the bare trees in the background that complement the wooden fences. Very pretty.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend!
Poppy
Oh Eileen, what a wonderful place to capture the best photography and you did! Wonderful post~
ReplyDeleteNancy
Wonderful shots, the first one is my favourite today.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing and enjoy your weekend.
Great pictures . . .
ReplyDeleteI like seeing the "perched" one . . .
Hi Eileen, Thanks for your kind comment on my blog yesterday. Looking forward to Saturday Critters! Hope you have a fine weekend!
ReplyDeleteEileen,
ReplyDeleteOh, how I enjoyed this post and I could almost "feel," the History that took place here.
Early Spring is so striking in Northern Virginia-gorgeous terrain and of course your photos are always a treat.
Have a lovely weekend,
Jemma
Great photos Eileen. The Amerian Kestrel on top of the statue is my favorite. I haven't been to Gettysburg in years. Thanks for taking me back and have a great weekend :)
ReplyDeleteMust be an interesting place with so much history !
ReplyDeleteGorgeous captures!!
ReplyDeleteThe first one is really funny :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd I like that bridge. Here in Germany in the Black Forest are some just like that, just not painted.
Tinna ✐
Great shots from your day trip. I love covered bridges.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the tour. Haven't been there for many years. I need to go back.
ReplyDeleteThank You for the comment on my work !
ReplyDeleteWhat a fascinating place, one that I'd love to visit.
ReplyDeleteLove how that spot of colour on the kestrel stands out amongst all the grey (in the first shot).
ReplyDeleteThat pretty bridge has such a sad legacy.
Hi Eileen,
ReplyDeleteVery nice narration and photos!
I particularly enjoyed the fences, the birds and the bridge. I have heard of haunted places and I have stayed at a B&B in Illinois, which Abe Lincoln's spirt was alleged to visit. The Kestrel on the Soldier's head is a Kodak moment (or is that a Sandisk moment)? :)
Have a Beautiful Day!
Namaste from Bangalore, India
Looks a great day trip to the Battlefields, those covered bridges are really special! Trust you to spot the kestrel on top of the statue, I'm sure he perched there just for you to take a great photo :)
ReplyDeleteHave a happy weekend.
Wren x
You and me have then visited a grand place.
ReplyDeleteThat all looks very familiar, although we were there in October and we had sunshine. We visited the covered bridge, but I hadn't heard the story of the haunting. We walked through it, but no ghosts appeared. Just as well!
ReplyDeleteWhen you see how tranquil it looks now it's hard to believe the carnage that took place there.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos and very interesting. Having recently returned from Norway, I noticed similarities in the farm buildings between there and the US - I assume the Norwegian farmers brought the techniques and the architectural styles over with them.
ReplyDelete
