Happy Monday everyone!
I am sharing the Ruby-throated Hummingbird, these are various photos I took thru the summer. By now, some my hummers are on the way south for the winter. I wish them safe travels. I may see a straggler come thru and I will leave my feeder up just in case.
The female has all white underparts and is emerald green above. They can hover at the flowers due to their high wingbeat frequency.
The Ruby-throated Hummingbird is 2-3 inches long.
These hummingbirds have heart rates up to 1260 beats per minute and have been able to fly 20 hours non-stop.
You can see they have a forked tail below and have that long bill.
A shot of the male below, it is hard to get the ruby-throat looking colorful without having some sunlight shining on this pretty hummer. They are feisty birds, I have seen them chase away larger birds if they think they have to share their feeders.
I will look forward to next spring and to see these beauties in my yard.
I hope you enjoyed my hummingbird photos and post.
As always I thank you for stopping by and as always I appreciate your comments.
My list of memes for today, I hope to see you there. Thanks to both of the host below.

Good Morning, Eileen. Your hummingbird pics are spectacular. We have really enjoyed hummers at our Mexican petunias this year but I am not able to photograph them. Thanks for sharing your pics.

ReplyDeleteThese were one of the delights I enjoyed on my big trip over your way last year... and I too was surprised at how bossy they can be! Here's to a grand week... YAM xx
So nice pictures -so very nice bird!
ReplyDeleteHello Eileen, it was so nice reading about these gorgeous birds... your photos are splendid too. I like that they can get feisty, small birds need that extra little bit of attitude to survive don't they! I'm amazed at that flight endurance of 20 hours - goodness me :D)
ReplyDeleteHave a really great week and I'll see you next time, cheerio xx
Uma maravilha de fotografias.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço e boa semana.

ReplyDeleteMost have departed from around here, and the fact that the hurricanes. seem to be over, at least for now, gives them a good chance to make it safely to their wintering grounds. We will look forward to seeing them again next spring.
ReplyDeleteHi Eileen,
ReplyDeletemarvelous photos of this wonderful bird. Amazing !
Best regards, Synnöve
Such a stunning hummingbird Eileen and you have captured the most amazing images! Thank you for sharing and have a wonderful day :)
ReplyDelete...wonderful images.
ReplyDeleteAs they say, 'thanks, I needed that'. With all the normal attractions we had very few hummingbirds this year. Not sure why. Happy Day.
ReplyDeleteHi Eileen, your photos are exquisite. I just love these little ones but unfortunately only get one or two around my yard. I don't have luck with the feeders, they are always leading or get hornets around them. I've seen the hornets chase the hummers away. Tried everything to get rid of the hornets but wasn't successful. Need to try something new next year. I think more flowering plants is the way to go and skip the feeders all together. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteWhat marvelous creatures
ReplyDeleteFantastic hummingbird images.
ReplyDeleteHave a pleasant new week!
Beautiful photos of them, Eileen! I still have my hummers, but they seem to be feeding more often, maybe getting ready to leave.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures Eileen . . .
ReplyDeleteWhat A Treat!
they are the most fascinating and one of my favorites. i kept my feeders up also and saw one on saturday!!
ReplyDeletelovely images eileen, most of mine are on the feeders and yours here look so much better!!!
Excellent photos! They are so pretty. My yard is crowded with them right now since I'm further south. Sometimes they stay here all winter.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you posted the hummingbird photos!! I live on the Texas Gulf Coast and the past weeks have been peak migration season. We have had more of these beautiful tiny jewels than ever before. My husband and I have two feeders up and some days they consumed 4 cups of sugar water a day. We also have many different flowering plants for them to feed on. The numbers are definitely down from last week but we will probably have stragglers for another couple of weeks. What a joy they are to watch! Have a wonderful week!!
ReplyDeleteAmazing creatures! These are wonderful photos! Have a great day today.
ReplyDeleteSuch sweet hummers. You got some great shots, Eileen. Happy Monday to you!
ReplyDeleteI Love seeing them when we go to Arizona for the winter. And every year I am amazed they can make such a long journey. From what I have heard, feeders along their route really help them to make the journey.
ReplyDeletethey are so cute, just adorable. and I love to see how they hover.
ReplyDeleteLovely shots Eileen. My feeders are still up, but I haven't seen any action at them in days now. I sure do miss them and can hardly wait to see the first one back in the Spring.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week,
Andrea

ReplyDeleteHummingbirds are a true wonder.

Absolutely stunning photos of these tiny and beautiful, delightful birds, Eileen! I hope you have a fantastic week ahead! :)
ReplyDeleteI saw a video of one in slow motion somewhere, and the number of times they flutter per minute was amazing. Beautiful birds and photos. Hope they all have a safe travel to warmer days.
ReplyDeleteI love the little ruby-throated hummingbirds. Your photos are really good.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.
What a wonderful pictures of this hummingbird and on some photos the bird looks so adorable. I think this is sthe fun of blogging you see worlds and birds you don't have in your own surroundings, I love it.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen any here for a couple of weeks! Great pics, Eileen!
ReplyDeleteGreat pics of the hummers!
ReplyDeleteOur humingbirds are gone...Coffee is on
ReplyDeleteThey certainly are pretty!
ReplyDeleteSuch wonderful photos, Eileen! I especially love the one of the hummingbird sitting on the leaf. I did not see as many hummingbirds in my yard this year as I did last summer, but it may be due to the fact I could not find the same flowers that attracted them that summer in my local nursery. They are such interesting birds!
ReplyDeleteOoh, you've changed your format. I like the new look.
ReplyDeleteHello Eileen! I absolutely love your first photo of the female hummer!
ReplyDeleteThey are very pretty birds! Great photos!
Have a wonderful week!
Your hummingbird pictures are outstanding. I especially like the first one, so clear and sharp.
ReplyDeleteWhat extraordinary and wonderful captures! They are so fast, zooming in and out and I know it is hard to capture the moment ; amazing :)
ReplyDeleteI am still feeding just a few of these sweet birds! They will soon be gone.
ReplyDeleteOh they also love lantana, just like the butterflies. Do they eat insects too? Unfortunately, we don't have hummingbird here, only hummingbird moth!
ReplyDeleteHey, your blog has a different look! Looks good.
ReplyDeleteIt's always a treat to catch a sight of a little hummer. I've never seen one in Florida, but a friend in NC has them at her feeder all summer.
ReplyDeleteFabulous shots. And I like the new look of your blog.
ReplyDeleteThey are so pretty! Its a joy to watch them going from plant to plant. Have a beautiful day!
ReplyDeleteLovely photos, indeed.
ReplyDeleteHappy Tuesday to tyou.
Stunning photos Eileen! I so wish we had hummingbirds here too but alas. Coming over from nature notes and wishing you a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteHello Eileen! Thank you for that post. I love hummingbirds! Great photos!
ReplyDeleteI miss my Hummers...I didn't put the feeders out this year..They were never in a place easy for me to see them...I have seen them flitting by from time to time..Great pictures.
ReplyDeleteHow cute! You got some pretty great shots of 'your' Hummer! When we were out birding last Friday, someone said they saw one but it was gone by the time I got to that spot! Maybe we will see more... sometimes they stay year round. It could happen! Thanks for sharing! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteAmazing birds.. Nice series of shorts.. Cheers
ReplyDeleteI would love to see hummingbirds one day. These are great pictures.
ReplyDeletewhat a great new look!!!
ReplyDeleteIt is always fun to catch them resting on a branch - and then actually capture them!
ReplyDeleteOh I love this little birds, but sadly they don't live in Europe. Greetings from Slovenia, Nadja
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful bird !
ReplyDeleteI find these Hummingbirds fascinating, I have never really come across them. so to think that you have them coming to your bird feeders as many of your readers do is amazing. Love your new blog look too!
ReplyDeleteWren x
Dear Eileen, your photos of the hummers are outstanding! Thank you and enjoy the rest of your week :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful portraits of these beauties Eileen.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos of the Hummingbirds!
ReplyDeleteI still see a few at my feeders, and like you, I will leave them up into October in case of stragglers coming by.
Hope you are having a great week!
Beautiful birds, Eileen! And so beautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteI hope you can send some of these beautiful birds my way! Unfortunatly, even though I faithfully keep my feeder full of necter, we haven't seen a hummingbird in years :(
ReplyDeleteThis is my first time visiting your blog and I hope to visit more often soon!

The humming birds are so gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteHello! I love hummingbirds. They are so beautiful. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteWonderful captures, Eileen! They are such sweet little birds. Hope you are having a good first week of fall. xx K
ReplyDeleteHummingbirds are so difficult to photograph, Eileen. Hats off to you.
ReplyDeleteAnd I adore your new fall blog look!
Eileen - these are all wonderful pictures. The ones I like best? Where the feathers seem to be puffed up - you can see the individual feathers, like many small scales. Simply amazing! If they could talk, I would love to know what they would say - many of your pictures have such charisma, I want to hear the bird commentary that goes with it!
ReplyDeleteHow pretty. I've never been able to get a photo of a hummer. Yours are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteIncredible! I love the last one the best! Love the lavender tones against the Green.
ReplyDeleteI like your new format for the blog Eileen!
ReplyDeleteYou are so good at photographing these little guys. I wonder if the larger birds think the hummers are giant bugs with the sound of their wings. I know I sometimes have thought so!
Wendy
So Cute. I wish we have birds like that here in my country.
ReplyDeleteHello Eileen, What a wonderful post here on the Ruby-throated Hummingbird. Excellent photos! Enjoyed each and every one … couldn’t pick a favorite because they are all so good. As you will know, I’ve been quiet in the blogosphere for a while. I have been traveling and have not had much time for blogging. I am just getting back to looking at the blogs I follow and, wow, Viewing Nature with Eileen just looks great! I love the way you have organized things and the new look … it is just great! You have many posts that I need to go and take a look at. Want to start with the one on the Rain Forest out here and your May trip. Thank you for keeping an eye on my blog and for your kind comments. I am looking forward to linking up with Saturday Critters one of these weekends real soon. In the meantime, take good care. By the way, I did think about you during that whole Irma storm … I did not think you would be in Florida yet, but I was concerned about your winter place. I hope you did not have damage there. Best regards to you from Seattle! John
ReplyDeleteDarling!!
ReplyDeleteI am hoping for good weather and food sources for these little birds and all the migrants including the monarchs...Great photos Eileen...Michelle
ReplyDeleteI love HUMMERS. I generally don't have a ruby throat at my house but my brother does and they are so beautiful. Turning off cooler here in TN so I figure the hummers will start their move south before long. Great pics.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos Eileen! I love watching them flit about, and compete for flowers. Great post...
ReplyDeleteWonderful! The first one is my favourite.
