Saturday's Critters #287

Welcome to Saturday's Critters!

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

My neighborhood Great Blue Heron chicks are growing fast.  Some times the noises coming from the herons is so loud, they sound like wild animals fighting at times.

These are some images, the best I could get of the GB Herons and chicks through all the trees, branches and leaves.  I found at least 6 or more nests I can see,  there are more nests out of view.

The Heron chick is almost on the top of a tall pine tree, you can not see the nest.

There are 3 GB Heron chicks on the photo below, taken on June 7th.

I used to be able to see this nest from my deck, but this photo was from the nearby fire road. You can see three different nest on one tree that looks like a dead tree.

I appreciate and thank everyone who links up their post and for all the wonderful comments !

Here is a list of my linky parties;

Also visit:  I'd-Rather-B-Birdin. Thanks to the gracious host: Anni.

  4. Dearest Eileen; What a handsome little Great Blue Heron V(*^.^*)V I love the dark blue parts on their head -;) And I especially interested in their making nests on pine tree; hope that the leaves won't trouble them. But happy to see them with pine tree as its the tree almost represent my country ♪

  5. Herons seem so gangly to be so high up in trees. At my daughter's place there used to be 5 Heron nests but several years ago on the 4th of July a huge windstorm knocked all the nests down and they (the Herons) have never been back.

  8. Made me think of the cormorantsnesting tree we have in one lake. Bot it is far out in the lake so I can´t get close. We have teh Grey heron, I know they are nesting but I have not found the nest. Your blue heron looks very similar to our grey one :) Wish you a happy week :)

  11. It is great that you have this colony so nearby. Sadly, our local rookery was largely destroyed by hurricane and clean-up, and the two pairs of Yellow-crowned Night-Herons which built nests there abandoned them. Only one pair of Green Herons produced young.

  12. What a beautiful photos you made of the young birds!

  13. Thanks for the great shots from the heronry. These kinds of images are not easy to obtain. The nests of our local birds are quite concealed by the foliage now.

  19. Your heronry has proved to be a wonderful source of both photography and entertainment Eileen. Those chicks have begun to look like real herons now. Nice work to get those pictures through the trees.

  32. Hello Eileen, This is really neat to see these Great Blue Heron nests and chicks. Fascinating to hear about the sounds too. When I see these birds at Green Lake I don't recall ever hearing them make a sound. I guess they get into arguments with their brothers and sisters just like humans do. :-) Thanks for sharing all the neat photos and for hosting Saturday's Critters. Have a happy weekend! John

  33. Underbara bilder av hägern Eileen! Inte lätt att fotografera, fåglarna och boet smälter så väl in i omgivningen så det krävs en del för att få sådana bilder, bra gjort!

  37. Excellent, excellent images, Eileen, I've never seen anything but the adults guarding the nests in spring. Oh man, they are so loud, maybe not crane loud but I'm not really sure. Maybe I should record them both and see who wins.
