Saturday's Critters #112

Saturday's Critters #112

Happy Saturday, it's time to share your critters and post. Any kind of critter will do, even a new or old post.. I appreciate everyone who is linking in with this week's critter party.

Happy Chinese New Year!!
February 8th is the Chinese New Year and 2016 is the year of the monkey. I noticed that my hubby, son and I were all born in the year of the monkey. Just a bit of info for you, I am a monkey.

These are the years of the Monkey: 19201932,1944195619681980199220042016

What is your Chinese Zodiac animal.  The sign of the monkey means that we are quick-witted, charming, lucky, adaptable, bright, versatile, lively and smart. I am sure LOL, if you know me well you already know I am all of these wonderful traits.

Above is a Howler Monkey (maybe a relative of mine) we saw while touring Costa Rica.

Back to my backyard birds and critters..a cute Carolina Wren outside my dining room window.

The Red-bellied Woodpecker pecking his way through the ice on this feeder.

I am not sure what we can do about these critters that have made holes all around our yard. We have well water and can not use poison. So for now they are just cute critters. This is the first time I actually got to see one of these critters out my treadmill window.

I hope you enjoyed my post and images. As always thanks for the visits and the nice comments. I also thank everyone who is linking up and sharing their critters..

Happy Saturday, have a great weekend!

Merry Christmas!

I am linking up with Skywatch Friday  and Good Fences
I hope you can join in on the fun and share your fence scenes and pretty skies.

Best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Just a short post for today, it's Christmas Eve..A pretty sky and a cute Carolina Wren perched on my fence and one of my moon photos.

The sky seen from our deck on Dec 7th. The vultures fly back to our woods near the sunset. They roost in the trees at night and move on to another spot early in the morning.

Back at home on our fence I found this noisy Carolina Wren.

My moon shot taken on Dec 15th. I hope you enjoyed my post.

Thank you for stopping by and most all for the nice comments. Have a happy day and weekend ahead and most of all Happy Holidays to all.

Just Wrens

Linking up with Wild Bird Wednesday and Nature Notes and NC Sue Wordless
I hope you can join in and share your wild birds and nature scenes

For this week's Wild Bird post, I am sharing two Wrens.  The Carolina Wren and the House Wren. Both of these are backyard birds for me and nest in or around my yard. The Carolina Wren is a year round resident and the House Wren shows up in the summer months.

Above is the Carolina Wren, this wren has what I call an white eyebrow. It seems like both of these wrens can be extremly loud and bossy at times.

Below is my crazy House Wren.

Above the House Wren is a busy bird when it arrives trying to make nest in every birdhouse I have in my yard. They want to rule the yard with their bossy ways.

This birdhouse has four openings and the House Wren managed to build a nest in each hole. I hope you enjoyed this Wren post, they are adorable birds.  Thank you for stopping by and for the nice comments.

Till next week's wild bird post. Join in and post your birdies and to see more beautiful and wonderful bird and nature photos please visit:

Around the yard_Nov 1

I am linking up with   Mosaic Monday and Our World Tuesday

Happy November..Can you believe it is November already?

Sharing some scenes from around my yard and some images from the neighborhood..of course I always have to share some birds. Some are yardbirds and some are birds that are seen and heard in the woods next to our house.. I have a four season look at our weeping cherry tree and some scenes from the lake near the house and the Autumn colors.. I hope you enjoy!

Some yardbirds and neighborhood birds are the Carolina Wren, Golden-crowned Kinglet, American Robin, Dark-eyed Junco, House Finches and female Purple Finches.. They are seemed to be common birds seen now..

The Carolina Wren is a year round visitor in my yard.. It seems to love the wood piles my hubby has around the yard..

A seasonal look at our weeping cherry tree.  It is a popular spot for my yardbirds, it is just a short hop over to the feeders hanging on our deck..

A cardinal on the feeder and the weeping cherry tree.

Just a short walk from our yard is the lake,  we take many walks on the fireroads around the lake.. The falls colors were pretty around the lake and in the forest.. I hope you enjoyed my look around the yard and neighborhood..

A view of the lake from one of our recent walks..

As always I thank you in advance for stopping by and for the nice comments. Sorry, I am not able to send thank you emails for your comments, working full time, life and blogging takes up a lot of time lately.

Weekend Walk_May 30

Linking up with Skywatch Friday  and Good Fences

My post today I sharing some fence scenes from my neighborhood for Tex's Good Fence meme, a bird of course, a couple shots of the sunrise, sunset and the moon for my Skywatch Friday post. I decided everyone needed a break from my vacation photos, so this post is mostly from around my yard and the bike trail.

I have been leaving a little later in the morning and now I am seeing sunrises on my way to work. I like this orange sky and sunrise..

Our weekend walk was along the NCR trail, a local bike, hike and running trail.  There is a pretty cascade falls in one spot we like to stop and admire the view.

This shot above is my perfect find for Tex's Good Fence post.  A view of the fence, trail and the cascading river.

In my mosaic is the cascade, another fence with a sign warning people about Copperhead snakes and some river scenes.

This shot looks better if you click for  a larger size.. Along the trail there is a private house where all these cute gnomes live.. Some gnomes have to stay behind the fence..

Heading back to the car, I saw a family of Carolina Wrens playing around, they were hopping from branch to branch, it was difficult to get one clear shot.  I heard a lot of other birds along the trail they were just camera shy.

A sunset from my deck, a little color here and there. The sky was still pretty.

My moon shot taken June 3, 2014 is the pretty Waxing Crescent.

While watching the sky and moon I was standing on my deck listening to the sounds of the Great Blue Heron in the tree tops near my neighbors house.  They can get pretty loud, but this sounds reminds me of trains on the track..or a dog breathing real loud.   I hope you enjoyed my post..

Saturday's Critters #12

Saturday's Critters #12

These are some more of my yardbirds that showed up to be counted last weekend for my GBBC- the Great Backyard Bird Count. Lately our electric blinks or goes out for awhile so I created this post early. The weather forecasters are calling for rain and heavy winds on Friday..which could mean our electric goes out and stays out..I hope it doesn't but just in case I wanted to schedule this post for my critter party on Saturday.. If you do not see me commenting..you will know why..

Update..Looks like the storm passed by with no damage..I may still be away from the computer for awhile today..but I will catch up with comments and visits.

Blue Jay with a mouthful.

American Goldfinch..poor thing..looking up and is thinking snow again..REALLY.

Carolina Wren..I've been seeing two of these cuties hanging around my deck..I think they already claimed one of my birdhouses as their own..

Tufted Titmouse, they are having fun chasing each around the yard..

Song Sparrow stopped by for the count along with the White-throated Sparrows and some House Sparrows.

Thank you in advance for linking up  and joining in on Saturday's Critters.. I always appreciate the visit and comments..

Saturday’s Critters #5

First I want to thank everyone for joining in on my Saturday's Critter party, this is # 5 and the first for the New Year 2014..  If I have not already done so I wish everyone all the best  in 2014, a Happy and Healthy New Year.

My Goldie Girl

We took Goldie Girl for a walk on the fireroad on New Year's Day.  She does well for an old girl..

Starting with the New Year, I am trying to enter my backyard bird sightings onto EBIRD.. This Carolina Wren was one of my New Year's Day visitors...I did manage to clean my window too.

I love having a feeder right outside my dining room window, I can see the bird up close. I think they may see me too.

Saturday's Critters #2

December 13, 2013

First, I want to say thank you to everyone that linked up to my first Saturday's Critters.  I think it went very well. And I appreciate all my blogging friends that left comments and wished me well on my first attempt at a MEME. So, here goes Saturday's Critter #2, I hope you can join in on the Critter party.

A new way to clear a path on the deck...The Shoveling Squirrel.

These are some of my critters from last weekend. Last Sunday, received our first big snowstorm.. Leaving us with about 8 inches of the cold, wet white stuff..

Our first real snow..we had about 8 inches..last weekend..and then to top it off we received freezing rain on top of the snow.

A cute Dark-eyed Junco..one of my winter birds.

In the mosaic are some male and female Cardinals..a few Mourning Doves, the Dark-eyed Junco, and in the bottom middle there is a White-Throated Sparrow in between a male and female Cardinal.

A cute Carolina Wren on an icy branch.

My male Cardinal looks like a tree ornament on the feeder.

The Cardinals look beautiful in the snow..I tried several times to clear a path to get to my feeders...it was snowing so hard and  laying faster than I could clear it away..the birds had to use their feet to get to the seed under the snow on the deck railing.  Another Snow/Sleet/Rain event for today and winter has not officially really started yet, do you think we are in for a bad winter?

I hope to see everyone join in on the critter party,  link up your blog post sharing your cute critters. Any kind of critter will do. I am sure most everyone knows how to put a link on your post for Saturday's Critters. Also, I hope everyone will take some time and visit with some of the other bloggers linking up.......

I am so happy you joined in on  my Critter party....I hope to see you linking up again..

Fifteen Mile Creek C&O trail

I am linking up with Mosaic Monday and Our World Tuesday

September 29, 2013

On Saturday, hubby and I headed to a new section of the C&O canal trail in western Maryland. The trail is 184.5 miles long. Usually we start our walking around mile 14 which is where the Great Falls National Park is located in Potomac, Md.  Yesterdays walk started around mile 140 at a place called Fifteen Mile Creek in the town of Little Orleans. The Autumns colors were here and there, definitely not the peak time yet.

Above is a view from the Sidelong Hill  rest area off of RT68.. not many fall colors here.

Across the river, we saw one pretty tree standing out among all the green leaves.Little glimpses of the Potomac River and some colorful leaves.

There were some pretty colors here and there along the canal trail, as you can see most of the trees were still green. We only walked up to mile 142, stopping along the way to check out the views and look for birds.

We saw a flock of Canada Geese in the Potomac River as we walked along the C&O canal trail. Other birds seen were the Pileated woodpecker and the Carolina Wren.  I also saw some Whitetail deer along the road. We headed a little further out to the Rocky Gap Casino, hubby had an offer of some free play and we figured why not since we were in the area. He played his free $15 and won $55.  Not bad, congrats to hubby.

Above, is the lake at Rocky Gap which you can see from the Rocky Gap Resort or the state park which is also nearby.  Rocky Gap is located in Cumberland Maryland off of RT68. You can have a great choice of activities at Rocky Gap, hiking, canoeing, golf course and the casino of course.

As always, I hope you enjoy my post and thanks for visiting my blog. I always appreciate your comments.
