Saturday's Critters #221

Welcome to Saturday's Critters!

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

These are some birds we saw at the Indian River Inlet, Delaware.  It is neat to see what kind of sea ducks can be found around the inlet.  During our shore getaways we make a point to stop at the inlet and look for birds.

Below on the Indian River State Park beach are the larger Great Black-backed Gull and the smaller Ring-billed Gull. They were both pecking at a large fish on the beach.

I am not sure but I think this is the Horned Grebe, but I could be wrong. Let me know, if you agree?

We 5-6 Purple Sandpiper moving in and around the rocks on the jetty at the Indian River Inlet, Delaware. Enlarge the photos below and look closely at the rocks, you will see the Purple Sandpipers.

A Common Loon.

Horned Grebe

I am linking up with Wild Bird Wednesday and Nature Notes

This week I am featuring the Horned Grebe I saw while at the Ocean City Inlet.

The Grebes are one of my favorite birds, as least my favorite at the time of the sighting..

Look at that eye, isn't it cool? Looks almost alien like... neat scarlet eyes. The Horned Grebe is a small water bird. And an excellent swimmer and diver.

Their plumage is unmistakable in the summer, when both the male and female have a black head with brown puffy earlike tufts

I hope you enjoyed seeing the Horned Grebe as much as I did! Thanks for stopping by my post and for all the nice comments.

Birding Cape Henlopen, Delaware

I am linking up with Mosaic Monday and Our World Tuesday

December 8, 2013

This post shares some of the sights hubby and I saw while birding Delaware last weekend. We stopped at so many different places in Delaware, I took tons of photos. Some are scenic and lots of birds photos of course  ;)

I was kind of hoping to see some  Snow Bunting on the beach at Cape Henlopen. There was not a Snow Bunting in sight only a few gulls hanging around.

The beach at Cape Henlopen State Park, it is just around the corner from the Cape May/Lewes Ferry.

A few gulls and a Horned Grebe

The House Finches perched in a tree near the nature center's feeders.

Above the House Finches look like ornaments on this bare tree. And the Brown-headed Nuthatches are so cute, they were one of my favorite sightings.

We were walking back up the trail when this Turkey Vulture flew low over our heads. It was a pretty sky but a very cold day on the beach.

Even though is was a cold day and I missed seeing the Snow Buntings we still had a fun time walking on the beach. I did get to see my favorite Brown-headed Nuthatches..  I hope you enjoyed our walk around the Cape Henlopen beach.

I was happy to take some photos of my great - nephew on Thanksgiving.. Baby Neill is so cute and was one of my favorite guests for Thanksgiving this year...

I have starting a new MEME called Saturday Critters..posted early on Saturday Mornings...join in on the party and post your cute critters.

As always, I hope you enjoy my post and thanks for visiting my blog. I always appreciate your comments.

C&O Canal Critters

Happy Weekend...I am linking up with Camera Critters

These are a few of the birds and critters hubby and I saw while walking on the C&O canal trail in Potomac, Md.

The Slider turtles are always seen on a sunny day at the canal.

We watched this Horned Grebe on the Potomac River side of the C&O Canal trail.

The Common Whitetail or known as long-tailed skimmer is a common dragonfly seen across North America

A Double-Crested Cormorant.. there is a nesting colony of Cormorants on the Potomac River. So they are a common bird to see along the river.

I hope you enjoyed my birds and critters for the Camera Critter post. The C&O Canal trail is a great place to walk and see all kinds of birds and critters. We saw so much I will split my walk into two posts.

To see more cute and wonderful critters check out Misty Dawn's Camera Critters
Thanks to Misty for hosting and thanks to everyone for stopping by to see my post. Have a safe and HAPPY weekend.
