Thankful Thursday

Happy Thankful Thursday!

Hello, I wish everyone a happy day.

For awhile we seemed to be missing the big heavy rain and snow storms. It was like they would start and then fizzle out. We did get one big snow the third week of March. One day hubby and I took a walk at the top part of our lake, the water levels were very low.

The top part of our lake just looks like a small stream. It was a pretty sky day!

During most of our latest walks we have been seeing a lot of Common Mergansers. These were far across the lake where the water is deeper.

This is a view of the middle section of our lake. Now there is a beach where there was water.

Just across the lake in the photo above is the Bald Eagle nest. I tried to zoom in for a look but with this fuzzy photo you can just make out the white head of the Bald Eagle.

Back at home the Goldfinches were enjoying the new thistle sock.

I am thankful for the birds outside my windows.
I am thankful for rain and snow even though I prefer warm sunny days.
I am thankful for all your visits and comments.

Happy Monday

Happy Monday everyone!

January 23rd, we have many fire roads around here that lead to our lake. On this day, we took a walk on the fire road that leads us to a Bald Eagle's nest. The nest has been in use for a few years as far as I know. We could not see the eagle on the nest but we did see a Bald Eagle sitting in a nearby tree. There were also a lot of Canada Geese about and a few ducks. Here are the photos from that walk, views of the lake, geese and sky. I hope you enjoy.

In the photo below the eagle is sitting close to the top of the tree on the right side. If you noticed a dark blob, that is the eagle.

Straight across the lake is where the Bald Eagle's nest is, from a distance you would never know the nest is there.

Warmer Weekend

Hello,

Happy Thursday everyone! On Saturday Jan 20th we enjoyed temps in the 50's. Yay, finally some warm weather to get outside for a walk. Hubby and I went to the local bike trail and stopped at the bridge and our lake for some photos.

I parked on the side of the road before the bridge and stood on the bridge for these photos. I zoomed in to see the Canada Geese and some Ducks.

If you click on this photo below you can see a couple of Ring-necked Ducks.

And if you click on this photo, you can find the Hooded Merganser.

Our lake and the bridge. It was a pretty sky day, lots of blue and some contrails from the jets.

Looking to the right side of the lake from the bridge.

The circles were just below the bridge, they are strange circles in the ice.

I took this hawk photo thru my car window coming back home from the bike trail. Possible Red-shouldered?

Spending time bird watching and outdoors in nature makes me feel happy. What makes you feel happy?  Can you slow down the clock, while enjoying nature. It is less stressful. I hope you enjoyed my post and photos.

I am thankful for temperatures in the 50's in January.
I am thankful to enjoy the simple pleasures and nature scenes.
I am thankful for all your visits and comments.

A HodgePodge

Happy Thankful Thursday,

I have not been anywhere lately except for our walks on our local fire roads and on the local bike trail.  The Super moon photos were taken from my deck.

I felt sorry for this Dark-eyed Junco, it appears to have a tick stuck to the side of it's face. I hope it fell off.

November 25th , a scene from our local bike trail.

A house off the bike trail has a big gnome collection, we enjoy looking at during our walk.

November 26th, our walk was at the Hemlock Gorge. A nice trail along the stream.

November 26th,  after leaving the Gorge area we made a quick stop at the top of our lake and the mud flats to look for birds.

Driving home from our walk at the Hemlock Gorge we passed by this barn. Looks like a drive-thru barn.

For the Skywatchers and moon watchers, here is my almost full moon on Dec 2nd.

The Supermoon on December 3rd.

I hope you enjoyed coming along on my walks.

I am thankful for peaceful days with nothing special needing to be done.
I am thankful for the mild days, to enjoy a walk outside.
I am always thankful for your visits and your comments.

Our world, my world

Happy Monday! Wishing everyone a great day and new week ahead.

Hubby and I often take walks on our local fire roads in our neighborhood, we can also take side trails to the lake. The lake is a reservoir for Baltimore City's drinking water. These are some images from late Oct-Nov 2017.  The state's DNR allows bow-hunting in this watershed area, trying to control the deer population. We have to pick and choose when we take our walks on the fire roads from Sept thru January and hunting season.

We often see Double-crested Cormorants at our lake, sometimes groups of them. On this day we just saw one perched on a tree branch sticking out of the water.

The Waxing Crescent moon on Oct 24th , I took this photo from my deck.

As always I thank you for stopping by and as always I appreciate your comments.

Fireroad walk

Hello,

I have a mish-mash collection of photos from my yard and some from around the lake all taken around the middle of September.

I am not sure of this bird's id, maybe an Eastern PeWee or unknown flycatcher.

During our walk to our lake, it was a beautiful day and an awesome looking sky.

A neat shaped cloud.

My morning glory fence with some pokeberry for the birds mixed in. You have to look hard for our the chained link under all the greenery. We let some of our yard go wild just for the birds and critters.

More Pokeberries.

My moon shot from Sept 14th. I missed the harvest full moon our skies on that day were cloudy!

I hope you enjoyed your visit and my post. I appreciate your nice comments. Enjoy your day and the weekend ahead!

Here is a list of linky parties for part of the week, I hope to see you there.

The neighborhood

Hello,

Happy Fall Y'all!

These are some scenes from one of our walks to our lake. This trail takes us past our neighbor's place, they are raising turkeys to be sold for Thanksgiving.

You can see some of the temporary fencing they have to keep the turkeys from running off and escaping into the woods.

We walk down the fire road to the lake, the sky was looking beautiful.

The geese are not in focus but I mainly love the colors in the clouds and sky.

It was nice to see a colorful sky for once, this may have been close to when Hermine was passing by on the coast of Maryland.

I hope you enjoyed your visit and my post. I appreciate your nice comments. Enjoy your day and the weekend ahead!

Saturday's Critters #144

Saturday's Critters #144

Happy Saturday, it's time to share your critters and post. Any kind of critter will do, even a new or old post.. I appreciate everyone who is linking in with this week's critter party.

I may be away from my computer but I will be visiting everyone as soon as possible.

These are some images from our walk to our lake, A Great Spangled Fritillary Butterfly, a juvenile male Scarlet Tanager, an Ovenbird and a Great Blue Heron flying low over the lake.

A not so good shot of the juvie Scarlet Tanager, they stay high up in the tree canopy.

A pretty Ovenbird, a breeder in the woods around our house and the lake.

I happen to catch a Great Blue Heron fly away. Can you find it?

I hope you enjoyed my birds and butterfly. It was a nice day to walk to the lake.

As always thanks for the visits and the nice comments. I also thank everyone who is linking up and sharing their critters.. Happy Saturday, have a great weekend!

Happy Thankful Thursday! The full moon in October 24th is called the Hunter's Moon or the Barley Moon. It was time to harvest the Bar...
