Bald Eagle

Hello,

Happy 4th of July, wishing everyone a safe and great holiday!

I think the Bald Eagle is a perfect symbol for our nations independence day.

For my Wild Bird this week I am sharing the Bald Eagle. We saw so many eagles while visiting Washington State,  some posed nicely on the tree tops.

The Bald Eagles have been making a great come back in many states. They are common to see around Washington state. They like to be around large bodies of water with an abundant food supply. I wonder with our new head of the EPA and regulations being reversed how fast will the poisons be back big time affecting the birds and wildlife.

The Bald Eagle is the national bird of the USA.

Both the male and female are alike in plumage, but the female can be 25 percent larger than the male.

The Bald Eagle is known to build the largest nest of any North American bird.

I hope you enjoyed my photos. The Bald Eagle is always a treat for me to see.
Thank you for stopping by and as always I appreciate your comments.

My list of memes for today, I hope to see you there. Thanks to both of the host below.

Washington Park, Anacortes

Hello and Happy Thursday!

I am sharing some more Washington State photos. We stayed a few nights May 2nd thru May 5th in Anacortes Washington.

A few Great Blue Herons, they must have found a good fishing spot.

A seal near the boat dock at Washington Park.

I read that Washington Park in Anacortes was a great place to watch sunsets.  A little cloudy but it still was a pretty sunset on this evening.

For my list of thankful things this week:
I am always thankful to see a sunset.
I am thankful for all the birds and critters, I hope they and other wildlife remain safe and healthy in our world.

I hope you enjoyed my post and photos.  Thanks so much for visiting and for your nice comments. Have a happy day!

Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

I am so behind in sharing photos, I have months of Florida photos, some from home and most recently from our Washington state trip. I will be flip-flopping all around with photos. These are from our 1st day in Washington state, we visited Mount Rainer National Park.

A Gray Jay  below was seen at one of the park's overlook parking lots.

The Varied Thrush is one of my favorite Washington birds, I love it's colors and markings.

The Northern Flicker.  In the western states, they are known as the Red-shafted Northern Flicker. The east coast has the Yellow-shafted Northern Flicker.

A Stellar Jay, commonly seen in Washington State.

We stayed at a B&B Mountain Meadows Inn at Ashford Washington. We were only 7miles from the park entrance.  The elk below were seen near a farm along side of the main road.

Sharing a barn for Tom's The Barn Collective  , I saw this while walking a trail behind the barn from a local Ashford park.

Mount Rainier Nat'l Park

Hello and Happy Thursday!

I am sharing some images from our first few days April 30-May3rd in Washington state and our visit to Mount Rainier Nat'l Park. We were happy the weather cooperated and we saw some blue skies along with the gray cloudy days. I have some common birds seen in Washington along with some pretty sky images.

One of the common Washington States birds we saw was this Oregon Junco below, they are cute.

A view of the mountains with a blue sky. As you go up the curvy mountain road you leave the greenery behind and end up with snow all around you.

We saw lots of white trillium along with some pink trillium in places.

Another view of our walk on the Trail of the Shadows, Mount Rainier Nat'l Park. This is at Longmire and an elevation of 2,761 feet.

The American Robin was one of the most common birds we saw during the whole trip.

A Belted Kingfisher seen during one of our walks along the river.

During our stay we saw blue skies and cloudy gray skies, either way the scenery and views were beautiful.  We even saw some snow flurries.

At the park we headed to the where the snow plows had stopped clearing the roads. Some roads were not supposed to open until the end of May or June.

Inside looking out from the Paradise Visitor Center, Mount Rainier Nat'l Park. You can see the snow piled up near the bottom of the window.

Paradise Visitor Center, Mount Rainier Nat'l Park is at an elevation of 5,400 feet.

For my list of thankful things this week:
I am thankful the weather was nice during our trip. After we left this area we heard they closed the road to the Paradise visitor center due to the warm weather could cause the snow to drop off like an avalanche into the road.
I am thankful we had good timing for our activities.

I hope you enjoyed my post and photos.  Thanks so much for visiting and for your nice comments. Have a happy day!

A peek at Washington

Hello,

We've had a lot going on lately, this past Saturday evening we arrived home after vacationing 2 weeks in Washington State. Then I started having problems with my desktop after the Windows 10 anniversary update? So, as I type this post on my tiny mini iPad our desktop in the repair shop! I have not loaded my camera photos onto my computer and I only have these camera photos.  I can not share any Washington state birds, they are still on my camera. Enjoy the view!

This scene is of the Olympic Mountains at the Hoh River.

Washington State trip May 2017

We like to fly on Southwest Air, we had a direct flight to Seattle and then rented a car to drive all around.   We drove a loop started at the Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park, Anacortes, Port Angeles, Cape Flattery, La Push, Olympic Nat'l Park and Olympia back to Sea-Tac.

I appreciate your visit and for your comments!  I wish everyone a great day and weekend ahead!

Lake Crescent & Sol Duc Falls

I am linking up with Skywatch Friday  and Good Fences
I hope you can join in on the fun and share your fence scenes and pretty skies.

I am sharing some images from Day 4 of our trip to Washington state.
I mentioned on a previous post, it was great to wake up in the morning and see a clear sky, this was a shot of moon before heading out for the day's exploring.

After a day of driving the previous day to Cape Flattery we decided to spend the next day hiking to the waterfalls not far from Port Angeles. I am sharing a Lake Crescent sunrise and a couple of waterfalls we visited while in the Olympic Nat'l Park.

Lake Crescent sunrise on our way to the waterfalls.

As we drove along the the lake, we would pull over and check out the colors of this sunrise.

One of the few birds I saw during our hike to the waterfalls was this Hairy Woodpecker.

On this day we hiked to 3 waterfalls, the Sol Duc Falls was the first one and to me it was the prettiest. All the websites I visited spell the waterfall name Sol Duc and not the Soleduck that is listed on the sign for the park?

I like how the Sol Duc Falls separates into 3 tiers or I call them channels or chutes. Plenty of fences around to keep peeps or hubby safe from falling off into the falls and gorge. Sol Duc falls seemed to have the most water out the 3 waterfalls we visited on this day.

Above images are of the Merymere Falls. After leaving Sol Duc Falls we drove to the next waterfall above called Marymere Falls. This waterfalls is located near the Lake Crescent Lodge. The trail to the falls starts at the Lodge's parking lot.

Above scenes are from Madison Falls. Madison Falls was our last waterfalls to visit on our way back to Port Angeles.

This cute pup was with a friendly lady we met at the falls, soon after hubby sat down the cute doggie walk over to hubby and sat next to his leg.  Dogs seem to like hubby wherever he goes  :)  I seem to take photos of every dog I see while on vacation.

I hope you enjoyed the sunrise and the Sol Duc, Marymere and Madison Falls. Thanks for stopping by for a visit and for your nice comments. Have a happy day and weekend ahead.

Cape Flattery, Washington

I have a list below of memes I am joining for this week. They are all fun memes to participate in...I hope you can join in with the fun  and check out some of the participating posts. Special thanks to all the wonderful host and their memes.

This past week blogland has lost a sweet blogger Pat @ Bailey Road she was a nature lover, dog lover and a great photographer. Pat will be missed.  Rest in peace, Pat. My prayers go out to Pat's husband and family.

On Oct 3rd of our Washington State trip we drove to Cape Flattery it is the north westernmost point of the United States and is also part of the Makah Reservation. It is where the Strait of Juan de Fuca meets the Pacific Ocean. I think I have mentioned before it hardly rains during my vacations, hubby is amazed with my luck. We did have rain one day during our stay at the beach but 1 rainy day out of 9 days is not bad.

Cape Flattery Lighthouse is on Tatoosh Island, Makah Bay are on one side and Neah Bay is on the other side of the Cape.

There is a hike through the forest, some of the trail was on a boardwalk. To see Cape Flattery you must purchase a pass from the Makah Indian Reservation to visit this site. The trail is 1.5 miles round trip.

It was a beautiful day with a clear blue sunny sky.

The coastline scenery around the Cape Flattery is gorgeous, we could see some sea caves from above.

At times we watched 2 gray whales, we could see their spray, body and tails coming out of the water.

Above some of the wildlife we saw while we were at Cape Flattery. Top Row: various gulls, Surf Scoters, Cormorant. Middle Row we saw two Gray Whales. Bottom Row is the Black Oystercatcher. Cape Flattery is at the northern boundary of the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary. It was a couple hour drive from Port Angeles but the visit to Cape Flattery was well worth the drive. I hope you enjoyed my post and images. As always I appreciate your visits and nice comments. Thank you! Have a happy day and new week ahead!

Hoh Rainforest, Olympic Nat'l Park

I have a list below of memes I am joining for this week. They are all fun memes to participate in. I hope you can join in with the fun and check out some of the participating posts. Special thanks to all the wonderful host and their memes.

Sharing our visit to the Hoh Rainforest, Olympic Nat'l park. After leaving the beaches the sky cleared up as we headed inland to the Hoh Rainforest and river.

The Hoh River was formed thousands of years ago by glaciers. Look at the blue color of the river, just gorgeous.

I just missed getting a shot of an American Dipper here at the river. It did not stay still for long.

There are some tall Western Hemlocks, Sitka Spruce, Douglas fir trees and lots of moss and ferns in the Hoh Rainforest. Some of the trees in the Hoh Rainforest can grow up to 312 feet tall and 23 feet in diameter.

These trees growing in a row are growing from a fallen tree called a nurse log, providing water and nutrients as they decay.

Some of the fall colors on the Spruce Trail in the Hoh Rainforest. Some of the trees are the big leaf maples.

The fall colors were beautiful along with all the green ferns and moss on the trail.

Some of the ducks (mallards and merganser) seen near the Hoh Visitor center.

I hope you enjoyed this short visit to the Hoh Rainforest. As always I appreciate your visits and nice comments. Thank you! Have  a happy day and new week ahead!
