Saturday's Critters #178

Saturday's Critters #178

Happy Saturday, it's time to share your critters and post. Any kind of critter will do, even a new or old post.. I appreciate everyone who is linking in with this week's critter party.

I may be away from my computer and internet for a bit. I will visit your blogs and comment as soon as possible.

I am taking you back to the Circle B for some more bird sightings. The Wilson's Snipe could usually be found in a couple places off the trails.

Two Wilson's Snipes in the morning light.

I could always get my fill of Black Bellied Whistling Ducks at the Circle B.

The Black Crowned Night Heron could be found in various spots along the trail too.

Looking up at the sky, it was filled with Tree Swallows.

A Limpkin was sharing the trail with us.

My You tube video of the Limpkin, their sounds are very loud and weird.

As always thanks for the visits and the nice comments. I also thank everyone who is linking up and sharing their critters.. Happy Saturday, have a great weekend!

Wilson's Snipe

Hello,

My wild bird post and photos are on the Wilson's Snipe. Hubby and I have been able to find the Wilson's Snipe often during our visits to the Circle B Bar Reserve.

The Wilson's Snipe is a short stocky shorebird. It has also been known as the Common Snipe.

They have a long dark straight bill. They breed in marshes and bogs. They forage in mud eating insects, worms and plant material.

My youtube video of three Wilson's Snipes seen from the trail.

I hope you enjoyed the Wilson's Snipe and my photos. Thank you for stopping by and as always I appreciate your comments.

My list of memes for today, I hope to see you there. Thanks to both of the host below.

Wilson's Snipe

Linking up with Wild Bird Wednesday and Nature Notes

For this week's wild bird I am sharing the Wilson's Snipe seen at the Swan Harbor Farms in Harve de Grace, Md.  Swan Harbor Farms is known as a birding hotspot, last year I did this Swan Harbor post....it-was-rail-day. The Snipe is one of my favorite birds.

The Wilson's Snipe has greenish legs and a large straight dark bill.

They breed in marshes, bogs and tundra. They forage in soft mud looking for their food.

They are shy birds and are usually well camouflaged in the grasses..

Where's Waldo shot... there are two Snipes in this shot above can you find both of them?

I hope you enjoyed my wild bird post.. Till next week's wild bird post.. I wish you happy Birding and have a wonderful week!

Birding the mudflats

Following the lead of some posters to my listserve I was able to pick up a lifer- the Wilson'sSnipe at the Paper Mills Flats.

The mud flats is a great place for the birding, in the last month reports of a Golden Eagle and a Black headed Gull have been seen at the flats. I was thrilled to finally just to see my Wilson's Snipe. I have been wanting to see the Wilson's Snipe for years and the bird was always hard for me to find. On this day there were twelve of them together, great sighting for me. Sorry, my excitement over seeing the snipe might seem boring to some.

The Wilson's Snipe below they were a good distance away. But with my binoc's I was able to id them. Sorry, for the awful photo but since the Snipe is a lifer for me I just had too save it.

The Wilson's Snipe has a very long straight and dark bill. Its head and back have bold patterns in pale yellow and brown and a stripe across and near its eye. It seems that mud flats anywhere are a big attraction for birds. I assume they find a lot of food in mud flats when the water is low.

The mudflats also had a good count of ducks. After my visit at the flats I was offered a used Swarvorski scope. It was perfect timing for getting the scope to take on my Outer Banks trip. The scope really comes in handy for the birds in the distance like the ducks in the photo below.

I thought the bridge's shadow was a cool photo.

I am hooking up with Watery Wednesday, thanks to 2sweetnsaxy for hosting.
Also, thanks for stopping by to see my post.
