Saturday's Critters #156

Happy Saturday, it's time to share your critters and post. Any kind of critter will do, even a new or old post.. I appreciate everyone who is linking in with this week's critter party.

Lake Parker is another local park that is close to us in Lakeland. We usually can see great birds up close and they have a wonderful walking path.

The first two photos are of a couple of Purple Gallinules. They seem to be a common bird for the Lakeland Florida area and this park.

Saturday's Critters #155

Saturday's Critters #155

Happy Saturday, it's time to share your critters and post. Any kind of critter will do, even a new or old post.. I appreciate everyone who is linking in with this week's critter party.

Yesterday was my 60th birthday, where did all those years go? Most were all very good years and I am thankful for each year.

On October 23rd, hubby and I visited Lake Morton in downtown Lakeland just to see the swans. Back in the 1950's Mr Pickhardt,  a Lakeland native purchased a pair of White Mute Swans from the Queen of England. The city of Lakeland had to pay for the capture, crating and shipping of the Mute Swans  to Lakeland Florida. Now, Lakeland is known for being home to over 200 swans. There are also  Australian Black Swans, White Coscorba swans from the Faukland Islands, Black-necked Swans from South America and their are other species of birds like ducks, geese and pelicans.

There is an annual round up where the birds are gathered for a medical check up. The swan is the logo of the city of Lakeland.

The birds tend to swarm around people who feed them, there are machines around the lake where you can purchase food for the birds. They seem very tame, we walked around the whole lake and the birds were everywhere we had to walk around some they were just relaxing on the grass.

These birds seem free to go anywhere, we even saw some crossing the street. Thankfully the cars and drivers know they have to stop and give them the right away.

As always thanks for the visits and the nice comments. I also thank everyone who is linking up and sharing their critters.. Happy Saturday, have a great weekend!

I am using the new Mr. Linky tool. The previous linky seemed to change in price.  Also, this new Linky will run from Saturday to Saturday. If you have problems linking please enter your URL in the comment and I will try to fix the problem.  Thanks for participating with my Saturday's Critters.

Lake Parker, Lakeland Florida

Hello,

We have been finding some great parks and lakes in Lakeland Florida for our walks and birding. On this day October 19th, we visited a local park in Lakeland called Lake Parker.

This is the first Good Fences or European Good Fences hosted by our new host Gosia @ Good Fences by Gosia Welcome and big thanks to Gosia.

For my skywatch, I have the sunrise at our neighborhood boat house. The boat house also has some good fences to keep people from falling into the lake with the gators.

On the same day Oct 20th as the sunrise above I have this moon capture. I am way behind sharing photos.

The White Ibis seem to be a common bird all over Lakeland Florida.

It was a pretty sky and a  great day for a walk in the park.

The White Ibis were all over the place. In this photo below you will find a fence behind the picnic pavilion for the Good Fence meme.

We are also seeing a lot of Purple Gallinule, they look similar to the Common Moorhen.  One difference is the color on the bill. The Purple Gallinule has three colors the red bill tipped with yellow and the light blue forehead.

Pretty park scene and sky reflection.

I was wondering is anyone beside me unhappy with Blogger's new dashboard. Why do they have to go and change a good thing. I was happy with the old look.

I hope you enjoyed my photos. Thank you for your visit and comments on my post. Enjoy your day and the weekend ahead!

Saturday's Critters #154

Happy Saturday, it's time to share your critters and post. Any kind of critter will do, even a new or old post.. I appreciate everyone who is linking in with this week's critter party.

If you are in the area Space Coast Birding festival  Jan 25th - 30th. The festival sounds like a great time. Check out the link for all the activities planned. I have enjoyed visiting the area including Cape Canaveral National Seashore, Merritt Island NWR, Cocoa Beach and Titusville.

More from Merritt Island, the birding at the wildlife refuge is great. I am sure we will be visiting here as often as we can. These images are straight out the camera only resized for my blog.  I was pleased with my zoomed images of the Bald Eagle, it was perched on an electric pole with a fish.

Reddish Egret

Reddish Egret, maybe Caspian terns and possibly Dowitchers?

Green Heron, can you find a spiders web?

A blurry look at a Manatee nose and part of it's face.

Starting next Saturday I am using a new Mr. Linky tool. The previous linky tool changed their price.
