I am continuing with a mish-mash of photos from the end of May and beginning of June.

Click on images for better viewing.

1. May 26th,  Pretty Dam and reservoir, a good spot to watch the Cliff Swallows that nest on the dam.

A walk with Miney on the Prettyboy fire road. A nice day for a walk, it was a pretty sky day.

2. May 29th, another local fire road walk to the lake with Miney. As usual I hear more birds than I can see, I did find an Ovenbird. The photo is blurry but you can see the black stripes on the bird's head.

3. Below are a few mosaics from May 30th, first are images of our walk with Miney on the NCR trail. The Mountain Laurels were blooming nicely. We saw a White-tailed Deer across the river.

Back in the yard, the Eastern Bluebirds were coming and going from the birdhouse.

A Great-crested Flycatcher perched on our deck railing and posed for some photos.

4. June 1st, another day and another walk with Miney.  The peacock still comes for visits. This time he was hanging outside our basement door.

June 1st, the Peacock found a spot by our basement door, Miney can not see him there so the bird feels safe.

5. June 2nd, to keep a record of my backyard birds. I am sharing photos of an Eastern Kingbird, I am not sure what is in it's beak. The photos are not so good taken from a bedroom window.

6. June 3rd, Another walk on the local NCR bike trail with Miney. We saw a deer on the trail, luckily Miney did not see it, she pulls hard when she sees other critters. I captured one of two Damselflies hanging out near a picnic bench. A Black Rat snake was hanging on a fence over the creek and an American Goldfinch was perched high in a tree.

The Merlin App from our NCR trail walk, I was surprised it picked up a Green Heron.  I have seen the Green Herons around the trail and bridge.

Miney on the bike trail, she gets excited to see people and other dogs or wild critters on the trail.

7. Flashback photos from our Ireland trip May 2023. The Eurasian Robin was one of my favorite Ireland birds.

Another sighting of my favorite Ireland bird the Robin was found on the grounds of the Kilkenny Castle.

Seeing sheep was a common sight while driving around the Ireland countryside.

Update on hubby: Thanks so much for the kind words and healing prayers. On July 21st, hubby had his 1st visit with the home therapy. On July 22nd,  was his first session of outpatient dialysis. He seems to have his appetite back, he lost a lot of weight while he was in the hospital. He will be on a renal diet, I am sure he will not like it but I will be watching him closely.

Celebrating a day early tomorrow July 13th, is my 16th Blog Anniversary! These years are flying by!

Another mish-mash of photos, still behind these images are from May 2025 and a couple of flashbacks at the end.

Click on images for better viewing.

1.May 17th, our walk with Miney was on the Parkton section of the NCR trail. I heard more birds than I could see due to all the leaves, check out the list of birds I heard on my Merlin App. The birds can hide well in the tree tops. The Dame's Rocket was blooming and looking pretty, I was amazed to see a large amount of tadpoles in a puddle on the trail's parking lot. Almost hidden in the bottom right side is a Gray Catbird.

I did see two Baltimore Orioles chasing a crow right above the trail's parking lot. The Orioles were heard singing all along the trail.

We walk this trail often and the Merlin App has been picking up the sounds of the Kentucky Warbler in the same area of the trail each time we were there.

2. May 18th, we met my son and his family at the Catoctin Zoo and wildlife Preserve, it was a fun time with the grandchildren. They loved all the animals.

3. More fun at the Catoctin Wildlife Preserve.

Feeding the koi fish, they were jumping out of the water making big splashes. The kiddies needed a wet zone warning.

Luna the turtle was one of my favorites.

4. May 21st, a walk with Miney on our fire road at Prettyboy.

May 21st, my Merlin App birds heard during a short walk with Miney on our local fire road.

5. May 23rd, my grandson Wyatt's pre-school had a little graduation ceremony.

6. May 24th, another local walk on the fire road with Miney.  I loved seeing all the ferns and the Mountain Laurels were starting to bloom.

Same day but back at home the Peacock came to visit us, he sat on our deck railing.  But, he went up on our roof when I had to let Miney outside.

7. Flashback to my sightings of the Summer Tanager.

June 2018, at home on the local fire road at Prettyboy, I was able to see a Summer Tanager seen right off the trail.

This Summer Tanager was seen in April 2013, in Florida at the Ding Darling NWR.

Saturday's Critters # 601

Happy Summer everyone! Our first week of summer is supposed to be really hot and humid.

My critter post is a mish mash of birds and of course our dog Miney, there may be a bonus image thrown in and some flashback photos.

"My favorite weather is bird chirping weather."

1. May 3rd, the Peacock was sitting in a tree in the back part of our yard.

I took Miney for a walk on the local fire road.

A bonus image from our visit and lunch with our son and family, it is always a joy to spend time with our grandchildren. They are growing so fast.

2. May 5th, we took Miney for a walk along George's Creek.

Foraging among the rocks in the creek, I found two Sandpipers, the Spotted Sandpiper and possibly a Solitary Sandpiper on the top row.

On a parking lot near the boat dock I found a family of Canada Geese, the gosling is adorable.

3. May 6th,  We walked on a different section of the NCR trail, I captured an Indigo Bunting in awful lighting. It is was nice to see some wildflowers and the wild azaleas blooming.

My Merlin app for our walk on the NCR trail, I heard a lot of great birds some new summer birds have returned. Most of the birds listed are either breeders in our area or they are moving through, more north of us.

Most of these bird sounds I can recognize before the app announces them. On the list below is a winter bird in our area the Brown Creeper, maybe he has not headed north yet?

I have have become better at iding the Baltimore Oriole sounds and have been hearing them on every one of our walks lately.

4. May 7th, another walk with Miney to the front section of the lake. I saw three Double-crested Cormorants, I heard more birds than I actually saw. I did get a glimpse of an Osprey flying away.

5. May 8th, below on the top row is the Gray Catbird and the Eastern Bluebird in my yard. The rhododendron is growing next to our house and driveway. It has lots of beautiful blooms.

6. May 8th, we enjoy our walks with Miney on this day we took a walk to the lake. I am into a routine of using the Merlin App to see what birds are around my area.

7. May 8th, below are two larger images of the Eastern Wood Pewee and the Scarlet Tanager.

The female Scarlet Tanager is lovely, she is yellow-greenish with dark wings.  They usually stay high in the tree canopy. We are lucky to have these beautiful birds breed in the forest around our home.

8. Flashback June 2019,  I miss the Great Blue Herons nesting in our little Prettyboy Neighborhood.

The Heron's nest were in trees across from our driveway, I could stand on my deck and watch the herons and their chick in the nest.
