Saturday's Critters # 413

Welcome to Saturday's Critters!

Hello and happy Saturday!

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

During our recent New York, we stayed in a B&B located in Geneseo and we found some nice restaurants near the Conesus Lake. One morning we took a short walk at a lakeside park.

1. Conesus Lake is considered one of the minor Finger Lakes, it is 8 miles long and 1 mile wide. The lake supplies water to Avon and Geneseo.

2. The Red-breasted Nuthatch was seen in one of the trees on the trail next to the lake.

3. There were groups of Mallard ducks, Common Mergansers and Gulls around the lake.

4.  Views of the trail and Conesus lake, flowers gardens and a fish sculpture with a water feature.

5. Mendon Pond Park, Monroe County NY.

6.  Along the birdsong trail, we saw the cute fairy homes, bird blinds and benches. The birds are used to people feeding them along this trail, the Chickadee and Nuthatches were flying towards us as we walked. One time a chickadee almost landed on my camera.

7. Located at the Mendon Ponds Park is Wild Wings a home for permanently injured birds that are non-releasable.  We saw various species of Owls, like the Barn Owl, Snowy Owls, Long-eared Owls, Screech Owl, Saw-whet Owl, Osprey, various Hawks, Bald Eagles, Turkey Vultures,  Bobcat and they had a very vocal Raven.

8. Help your native raptors.

9. Below are the Barn Owl, Snowy Owl, Long and Short-eared Owls and the Barred Owls.

Thanks to all my visitors and for your comments. Stop back to see any replies to your comments. I appreciate everyone who loves critters and has linked up their critter post.

Our World, My World

 Happy Monday,

The NCR bike trail is the only trail open, which is some what close to us for a walk. It is a short drive away,  a nice trail for walking. I have posting often about our walks on the NCR trail.

On this day we parked at the Bentley Springs, Parkton section of the trail. I heard a lot of birds, like the Northern Parula, various woodpeckers and we saw a couple of Mallards.

This is a good time of the year for walking on the trail, there were a lot of wildflowers and different trees were blooming.

I think this is the Bee Tree Run, it is close to the bike trail.

We noticed a man using a stick trying to move this snake off the trail, he did not want the snake to be run over by a bike rider.  I think the snake did not like being moved, I stayed a distance away.

It looked like the snake was ready to strike.

A pretty tree blooming along the trail.

A view of the NCR trail near the Bee Tree Preserve.

Take care, stay safe!

Baker Park, Frederick Maryland

happy Monday,

I am doing an extra post this week, I am getting behind sharing some photos and parks we have visited during the end of April.  On this day hubby and I took a walk in Baker Park in Frederick Maryland.

April 25th, 2018
At this park there is a Night Heron rookery, both the Black-crowned Night Herons and the Yellow-crowned Night Herons. We could only see a couple of BC Night Herons, it was a chilly and windy day, the birds were hunkered down because of the weather.

The path around the Baker Park. I love the weeping willow trees.

Canada Geese with goslings.

Hashawha Nature Center

I am linking up with   Mosaic Monday and Our World Tuesday

On the weekends, hubby and I always try to talk a walk somewhere. So on Saturday the weather was somewhat nice, we drove to the local Hashawha Nature center for a walk with Goldie Girl. The Native American Hashawha name means "old Fields".

On the drive to the nature center we pass many farms, some with really cool barns.

We always pass by this fence with these colorful birdhouses. Over the years new birdhouses have replaced the old worn houses.

Above some of the nature center scenes, the lake, a bridge crossing a creek and a couple of Mourning Doves.

The above scene is at the nature center, the fence around the tree is new. I do not think it was there during our last visit. I am not sure why they put the fence around the tree. This field attracts many sparrows and bluebirds. Yesterday, we were seeing lots of Robins.

The nature center has a lake, usually we see some Mallard ducks and this time with a few Canada Geese.

By the visitor center's feeders the Mourning Doves were eating the seed dropped by the birds at the feeders. Other birds around their feeders were Goldfinches, Cardinals, Chickadees, Juncos, Titmouse and White-throated Sparrows.

Back at home, I have been keeping an eye on the neighborhood heron nest. I am trying not to get close to the nest but this morning I noticed some movement in another tree across from this nest. We might have more than one Heron nest.

Thanks for stopping by my post and I always appreciate your comments.

A visit to the Jersey shore

Check out the Friday Ark to see more wonderful birds and other animals.

Hubby and I visited the Jersey shore this past Sunday and an overnight stop in Atlantic City.  I had fun checking out the ducks and shorebirds at Barnaget and hubby had a little fun playing poker in AC. So we both got to do something we like to do although my type of fun is free. I have some photos to show of the ducks I saw and my header shot of of the Barnaget beach. This is a great spot to see ducks up close and different kinds of ducks and shorebirds. I saw the Harlequins, Brants, Common Eider, Surf Scoters, Long Tailed Ducks and some others I am trying to id.

More from Loch Raven for Watery Wednesday

These are more shots from the Loch Raven Reservoir, I posted an entry for That's My World below also which tells more about the Loch Raven Reservoir.
It was fun watching the swans, ducks, geese and gulls flying all around at the reservoir on Saturday. People were feeding bread to the ducks and geese so they were coming close to the shore.

Below are Ring Necked Ducks to me they should be Ring Beak ducks. Because the white ring is around their beak. In winter they like freshwater lakes like our Loch Raven Reservoir.

This is my entry for :  2sweetnsaxy's Watery Wednesday click on the link to go and view watery photos from all over. Thanks to 2sweetnsaxy for hosting Watery Wednesday.

Loch Raven Reservoir....That's My World

On Saturday,  hubby and I decided to take a walk and check out the ducks at the Loch Raven Reservoir. Baltimore has three reservoirs that hold water for the city and Loch Raven is one of them. In the winter months the reservoir seems to attract many species of ducks, geese and gulls. During the season the Fishing Center rents boats and canoes and they have the only boat ramp for access to the lake. The lake is a preferred destination for bass fishing.

On the weekends a 3 mile section of the Loch Raven Drive is closed for bikers, roller bladers, joggers and walkers like hubby and I. The road follows the lake so it is very scenic.

We saw many families with little ones coming with bags of bread to feed the geese, ducks and the gulls. From the shoreline, I could id the Mallards, Hooded Mergansers, large group of Ring Necked Ducks and Common Mergansers.

                                           Hooded Merganser

Mute Swans, Canada Geese and Mallard ducks

Ring Necked Ducks have a white line around their beak and are easy to id.

Canada Geese walking near the frozen shoreline.

It was a great day to be out walking and enjoying the outdoors. The temps were in the low 50's which was nice after the cold weather we have been having on previous weekends.

This is my Show My World post and to see more go and visit That's My World
