Before the lock down in early March, we took trip to Ocean City Maryland. During our getaway we visited the Assateague Island National Seashore and the Assateague Md State Park. Hubby and I both have senior passes for both parks which is nice, we no longer have to make sure we have exact change.

We walked the beaches, the boardwalk trails and drove around the park looking for birds and the Assateague ponies.

The Maryland Assateague Island ponies are owned by the national park, they are kept separate from the Chincotegue Island Virginia ponies.  Around 150 ponies are owned by the Chincoteague Island Volunteer Fire Company in Chincoteague Island Virginia. Some of these ponies are auctioned off each year.

Below a few Killdeer, Northern Gannet over the ocean, bottom right are some of the Common Loons.

The Common Loons seemed to be the most common bird seen from the beach.

I was able to find a few Northern Gannets far out in the ocean, it is fun to watch them dive.

The Killdeer were seen and heard on the Assateague Island beach.

Traffic back up from the Assateague ponies crossing the street.

Thanks to all my visitors and for all the wonderful comments. I appreciate everyone who loves critters and has linked up their post.

Saturday's Critters #271

Welcome to Saturday's Critters !

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

During our recent trip to Ocean City Maryland we took a side trip to Assateague Island National Seashore. I love seeing the wild horses and at this time there was a surprise winter filly born a month or so ago. We saw it a few times during our walks and time at the park.  Here are some of the photos I took while at Assateague.

Gulls resting. The water is so calm on the bay side of the island.

Our first sighting of the new filly and her mom Susi, they look alike.

Assateague is always a great place to see the Yellow-rumped Warblers.

A view of the butter-butt.

A cute bay pinto filly around a month old at the time of my photo. She was born in the coldest part of our winter which is unusual.  They are usually born in April, may or June. Good news is that the filly and her mom are both doing well.

The Mom named Susi Sole and her new foal who is not named just yet. The ponies are given alpha-numeric names when they are born. If you want to name a new filly you can win the Ebay auction

Another sighting of the Assateague wild horses, was right next to the parking lot.  They say to stay at least 40 ft from the wild horses.  Some people have trouble following the rules. We saw some people closer.

Assateague's wild horse population is around 80 horses on the Maryland side of the island.

When the horses came close to us, we walked further away and towards our car.  The pathway leads from the parking lot to the beach.

I have to say the newest filly and Assateague pony is just adorable.

I appreciate and thank everyone who links up their post and for all the wonderful comments !

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

These are photos from our short trip to Ocean City, Md and Assateague Nat'l Seashore.  I love seeing the wild ponies, we had some great sightings of the ponies and we also saw various birds.

We saw some of the horses while driving thru the campground. One horse walked up to the van's window, I think it was looking for food. We did not see it being fed, that is against the rules.

The Yellow-rumped Warblers were everywhere on the Assateague Island.

A closer look at the Yellow-rumped Warbler,

A Great Blue Heron

The Sanderlings were on the beach at Assateague.

I appreciate and thank everyone who links up their post and for all the wonderful comments this past year !

Saturday's Critters #110

Saturday's Critters #110

Happy Saturday, it's time to share your critters and post. Any kind of critter will do, even a new or old post.. I appreciate everyone who is linking in with this week's critter party.

They are calling for a big snowstorm (1-2 feet of snow)  this weekend. I am wishing the weathermen are wrong and we do not get as much snow as they are calling for. I am also praying our electric stays on and this storm goes by quickly. I hope everyone in the storms path stays warm and safe!

These are some images from our visit to Assateague Island National Seashore. We saw plenty of birds and the wild ponies.

The cute Yellow-rumped Warblers a winter bird for Assateague were the most common bird we saw. There must have been hundreds of them around the island.

For Teresa's Friday Hunt

I am sharing this photo from our walk at Assateague Island. It is my Favorite photo from the day and I would say this trail is Beautiful. I like how the trail is lined with these bushes, it reminds me of a natural tunnel.

A Great Blue Heron lurking in the grasses.

Some of the wild ponies were right on the road.

The horses were crossing back and forth in front of our car.

For Teresa's Friday Hunt and the word Beautiful....I am sharing one of the BEAUTIFUL wild horses on  Assateague Island.

For Teresa's Friday Hunt and the letter "D" I saw a lot of Ducks, Grebes and Mergansers at Assateague Island, sorry the lighting was not very good for the shot above.

I hope you enjoyed visiting Assateague Island. As always thanks for the visits and the nice comments. I also thank everyone who is linking up and sharing their critters.. Happy Saturday, have a great weekend!

Assateague Island & Ocean City, Md

I am linking up with Mosaic Monday and Our World Tuesday

December 1, 2013

I am not one that had to be out shopping on Black Friday.. I hate crowds. So on the morning after Thanksgiving Day hubby and I took off for another two day trip to the beach and a loop around the Delaware shores. On the first morning we stopped at Assateague Island to see the birds, horses and the beach. From there we headed to Ocean City, Maryland.. We checked the inlet for seabirds and hubby just could not leave before buying some famous OC Thrasher French Fries.

Above Assateague Island National Seashore, Song Sparrow, Assateague wild pony, Mockingbird, Yellow Rump Warbler, Surfers.

Assateague Island Mockingbird..seemed to be a common bird found in the park along with the Yellow-rump Warblers.

Ocean City inlet jetty, Purple Sandpipers, Seagulls and pigeons and Ocean City Amusement pier.

While enjoying some fries, we sat in the warm car and watched the gulls on the inlet parking lot.

The Purple Sandpipers are cute birds with their orange legs and bills. They can be found foraging on the rocks around the jetty. The Common Loon was another bird we found at the Ocean City Inlet. To continue our loop around the Maryland & Delaware seashores we hopped back in the car and headed for Delaware Indian River Inlet which will be my next post...

I am starting a new MEME called Saturday Critters..Saturday Morning 8am EST...join in on the party and post your cute critters.

As always, I hope you enjoy my post and thanks for visiting my blog. I always appreciate your comments.
