September already and I am still sharing photos of the birds and critters seen in Ireland. Leaving Dingle, we drove along the Dingle Peninsula, Ring of Kerry and were heading to our next place to stay in Killarney. 

1.  May 13th Another stop was for lunch, we stopped in Portmagee, hubby and I had a nice lunch in the Skellig Seafront Cafe. We walked around the coastal town being followed by a cute kitty, it is a nice village with pretty views. You can catch a boat tour here to the Skellig Islands which is a UNESCO Heritage site. 

While we were walking along the harbor I noticed the Rook's nest , a group collecting in the tree top is called a rookery. 

I watched these two Black Guillemot or are they called Common Murre floating in the Portmagee harbor.

A walk among the sheep, is someone on the wrong side of the fence?

Our driver/guide made an extra stop at the Kerry Cliffs, it is similar to the Cliffs of Moher with gorgeous scenic views.  It was hard deciding which way to walk on the cliffs, to the right or left.  I went left and hubby went to the right. 

Next to our parking area we enjoyed these cute critters.  These two donkeys looked like they were hugging each other, very cute.

I love the cute alpacas, there were three different colored alpacas standing close together. 

The Killarney National Park  was the last stop for the day before heading to our lodging for the next two nights in Killarney. 

I believe this is a Grey Wagtail, we saw this bird near the Torc Waterfall in the Killarney National Park.

Back Roads equals Horned larks

A good tip from a birding friend of mine, she told me after a snowy day I should take a ride on the back roads around my neighborhood to look for new birds. It seems the birds like to find food along the road where the snow melts. So, on this day I took a slow ride around watching the birds fly away from the edges of the road. You never know what you might find  Horned Larks, Sparrows, Juncos, Longspurs and sometimes even Snow Buntings.

On this day I found the Horned Larks and some Juncos. They flew away when I got close, so I stopped the car and they came right back. 

Above, you can just barely make them out but there are four Horned Larks along the edge of the road. One has its head way down in the snow.  Must be something really tasty there. Do you think they like road salt?

It seems like where ever I go I am always seeing vultures. These Turkey Vultures seem to be watching a group of donkeys. Not sure why?

The donkeys do not seem to mind being watched by the vultures and by me. I think they are so cute.

HAPPY 4th of JULY critters

Happy 4th of July, I hope everyone has a safe and happy 4th of July weekend.

I have a few of my yardbirds, the cardinal and the goldfinch and some critters seen around my deck and neighborhood.

This pretty cardinal is showing off his patriotic red color for the 4th of July.

From my archives, because I needed to add the color blue for my July 4th post. These Bluejays would be happy to have a feast on my deck for the 4th of July. Just make sure there are some peanuts for them.

This American Goldfinch is showing off his pretty bright yellow color.

This cute chipper likes to join in on the July 4th feast too. They look adorable filling up their cheeks with the birdseed.

I like driving along the back country roads looking for birds that like to be in the fields and grasses. I am on a quest to add the Dickcissel to my life list.  The Dickcissel can be found on pastures, farm fields and on fences or utility wires.  I see these donkeys everytime we go for our favorite ice cream, they are just so cute. They seem different for some reason. I not sure what kind they are but they look adorable.

I think this cow is happy we like to eat ice cream.

My Goldie Girl got a hair cut for the summer, now she looks like a yellow lab instead of a golden retriever. They put red and blue bow on her ears, so Goldie Girl is ready to celebrate the 4th of July too.
