Green Cay Nature Center

Happy Monday!

I have heard about the Green Cay Nature Center and boardwalk being a great place for seeing the birds up close. Hubby and I visited twice during our recent trip to Florida. The Nature Center looks over 100 acres of wetland and has 1.5 miles of elevated boardwalk.

The Painted Bunting is one of my all time favorite Florida birds, they are beautiful.

While walking on the Green Cay boardwalk you will see birds any direction you look. If you are a birder or not, this is a great place to visit.  The Glossy Ibis posed nicely for me.

We saw a few Green Heron, some times 2-3 rather close to each other.

I love the fluffy look on this Anhinga.

This is the Purple Gallinule, easily to id by the blue spot above the red and yellow bill.

Some Green Cay waders we saw on the top row, Cattle Egret, Great Egret, Tricolored Heron. Bottom row the Little Blue Heron, Green Heron and the Great Blue Heron.

Thanks for your visit today!  I hope you enjoyed my post and photos.

Purple Gallinule

Hello,

My bird this week is the Purple Gallinule. It is a swamp hen in the rail family. The adult has big yellow feet and blue-purple plumage. This bird looks beautiful when the light is shining just right on it's feathers. It seems to be a common bird seen in our local Lake Parker Park in Lakeland Florida.

The Purple Gallinule has a pale blue forehead with red and yellow bill.

Lake Parker Park is just a short drive away and we usually see the Purple Gallinule every time we take a walk at this park.

I hope you enjoyed the Purple Gallinule and my photos. Thank you for stopping by and as always I appreciate your comments.

My list of memes for today, I hope to see you there. Thanks to both of the host below.

Lake Parker is another local park that is close to us in Lakeland. We usually can see great birds up close and they have a wonderful walking path.

The first two photos are of a couple of Purple Gallinules. They seem to be a common bird for the Lakeland Florida area and this park.

Lake Parker, Lakeland Florida

Hello,

We have been finding some great parks and lakes in Lakeland Florida for our walks and birding. On this day October 19th, we visited a local park in Lakeland called Lake Parker.

This is the first Good Fences or European Good Fences hosted by our new host Gosia @ Good Fences by Gosia Welcome and big thanks to Gosia.

For my skywatch, I have the sunrise at our neighborhood boat house. The boat house also has some good fences to keep people from falling into the lake with the gators.

On the same day Oct 20th as the sunrise above I have this moon capture. I am way behind sharing photos.

The White Ibis seem to be a common bird all over Lakeland Florida.

It was a pretty sky and a  great day for a walk in the park.

The White Ibis were all over the place. In this photo below you will find a fence behind the picnic pavilion for the Good Fence meme.

We are also seeing a lot of Purple Gallinule, they look similar to the Common Moorhen.  One difference is the color on the bill. The Purple Gallinule has three colors the red bill tipped with yellow and the light blue forehead.

Pretty park scene and sky reflection.

I was wondering is anyone beside me unhappy with Blogger's new dashboard. Why do they have to go and change a good thing. I was happy with the old look.

I hope you enjoyed my photos. Thank you for your visit and comments on my post. Enjoy your day and the weekend ahead!

Here is a list of linky parties for part of the week, I hope to see you there.

Lake Hollingsworth, Lakeland Florida

Linking up with Skywatch Friday  and Good Fences

For this week's Good Fence and Skywatch Friday memes I am sharing more birds, skies and fences from our visit to Lakeland Florida. On this day we walked close to three miles around Lake Hollingsworth in Lakeland Florida. It was a little foggy in the early morning, we could not even see the whole lake during our walk.

Above is one of many of the Limpkins we saw during our walk.

Scenes from our walk around the lake, ducks were plentiful and lots of fences in front of the big homes on the lake. My contribution for Tex's Good fences above. During our walk, various groups of ducks would actually run up to us like they were greeting old friends. I know they were looking for food but we did not have anything for them.

This may have been one of the few days we did not have sunny skies while in Florida.. A foggy look at the lake..that is if you can see the lake.

Not a lifer, but one of my favorite Florida birds the Purple Gallinule. It's beak color is different than the Moorhen or Common Gallinule.

A look at the sky, trees and fence as we walked around the lake. Another combo fence and sky shot for both of the memes. I love the trees. I am pretty sure later in day the weather was much better.

It was easy this morning to look straight into the sun..this is it folks, my view of the sky on this day.

More of the Lakeland Birds we saw during our walk around the lake. On the top row: Little Blue Heron, Wood Stork with Limpkin, Mallards or Mottled ducks.  Bottom Row: White Pelicans, Wood Ducks, Duck family.

I hope you enjoyed this series of skies, fences and birds. I know you all know me by now, I can not do a post without my birds, lol! Thanks for stopping by and for the nice comments..
