Saturday's Critters # 457

Welcome to Saturday's Critters!

Hello and happy Saturday!

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

The days are just flying by, we have not been anywhere special yet. We are still taking our local walks around our neighborhood and to the lake. The grand-dogs are home with my son and his family now, we do have a weekend of dog-sitting at my son's home.

1. Aug 29th, our walk was to the front and to the lake. I was surprised to see 2 Green Herons perched close by on a downed tree at the lake, we also saw 2 Great Blue Herons and a Double-crested Cormorant.

2. Red-spotted Purple butterfly or also known as Limenitis arthemis.

3. It is not often, I get to see two Green Heron so close together. Maybe they had a nest close by.

4. August 29th, one of two Great Blue Herons seen by our lake. I had to take this shot through a lot of tree branches.

5. Aug 29th, back at home I am distracted by the hummingbird at the feeder on the deck, this mosaic below is the same hummer in each photo. On the larger photo you can see a bit of the ruby-throat, it is a juvenile male. He is a cutie, already chasing away other birds from "his" feeder.

6. Sept 2, one of my favorite walks with the dogs is to the lake. On this day we saw the usual Great Blue Heron hanging out and a Belted Kingfisher perched in a usual spot.

7. Sept 2nd, another look at the Great Blue Heron at the lake.

8. Sept 2nd, back at home and in our yard. The Mourning Doves like to sit on top of our swing. Not the best photo taken through my dining room window.

Thank you for sharing your critters and post!

I am sharing some birds and critters from my back yard, photos were taken the middle 2 weeks of September.

The Ruby-throated Hummingbird, 2 were still being seen on Sept 20th.

I was trying to video the hummingbird and butterflies at the buddleia when I notice there were 2 frogs in our little pond.

Painted Lady on the Buddleia and a Red-spotted Purple Butterfly on the Devil's Walking Stick berries.

Looking out my dining room window, I thought I saw my neighbors dog loose on the driveway, but it turned out to be a small deer.

Happy Thankful Thursday!

 Hello everyone,

It is hard to believe August is almost half over.  The days continue to fly by.  There is not much happening here, we are still keeping our distance and wearing our face mask.  Our walks have been local, on the fire roads and to the lake.  Can I say, I am grinning and bearing this new version of blogger?  How do you like the new blogger?  Please ignore any errors, lol.

My Skywatching is from my deck, yard and driveway.

" I am grateful, I am happy."

Bird watching is from my windows or on our deck.  I am seeing 5-6 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds zooming around my yard. I have 3 feeders that I seem to refill every other day. Seeing these hummingbirds in my yard just make me happy.

Thankful for flowers, they make me happy. Hubby had the nice suggestion to buy flowers for the vase we keep on the dining table. So every couple of weeks, we change out the flowers for a new arrangement. These are from the local Weis food store, I am not sure what they are. Maybe Freesia?

Nature scenes from our fire road walk, the round spider webs, mushrooms, Acadian Flycatcher and a Red-spotted Purple butterfly.

I often see these round spider webs during our walks, they remind me of a CD or DVD.

Backyard sky, sunset looking pretty in pink.

I am thankful for the simple pleasure of a beautiful sunset.

" Make time to enjoy the simple things in life."  Warm tea and a good book are a few of my simple things.

Recently, I heard about a tasty honey called Orange Blossom Honey. Apparently bees in Florida and California visit the orange blossoms which in turn flavor the honey comb with a sweet citrus flavored honey.  I like adding a little honey to my tea,  right now I am using a local Maryland clover honey.  I ordered the Orange Blossom Honey from Amazon, I am looking forward to trying this honey.  Do you buy local honey? It is best pure and raw, it has health benefits, antioxidants, nutrients to help promote digestive health and help with your pollen seasonal allergies.

I am thankful for all the ebooks I find online from my local library.

These are my latest books:

The American Agent by Jacqueline Winspear, it is # 15 in the Maisie Dobbs series. I really enjoyed this series, I hope she does another Maisie Dobbs, I am a fan.

Unseen by Karin Slaughter, # 7 in the Will Trent series

All Shall be Well by Deborah Crombie, # 2 in the Duncan Kincaid & Gemma James series.

I am thankful hubby and I are remaining virus free.  This Covid virus is not just going to go away. I hope everyone take care and stays safe.

Live simple and be happy!  😊 Take care, keep smiling!

Happy Thankful Thursday

Hello and Happy Thankful Thursday!

Sharing another walk at the Hashawha/Bear Branch Nature Center. It is a local Carroll County Maryland park, one of my favorite places for a hike. Usually there is something always there to see, nature related.

"An early morning walk is a blessing for the whole day." Henry David Thoreau

"We have come too far,
we have sacrificed too much,
to disdain the future now." John F Kennedy

In the park there is an early 1900's cabin, belonging to the Martin Family. Nearby is a 300 year old White Old tree.

"Where flowers bloom, so does hope."  Lady Bird Johnson

"We are like butterflies who flutter for a day and think it's forever." Carl Sagan

Common Buckeye Butterfly

"Life is short, spread your wings and fly."

Red-spotted Purple Butterfly

Thankful for pretty blue skies and cool days for a walk.

Me and my shadow.

I like this cloud right above a silo.

"The earth does not belong to us, we belong to the earth." Chief Seattle

I am thankful for natures beauty!

Can someone tell where September went, this month just flew by. These are some images from our more recent fire road walks and walks around the lake.

This Great Blue Heron was way across the lake and the photo was fuzzy, so I used Lunapic to make more of a watercolor painting of my Great Blue Heron.

This may be a snapping turtle swimming in the lake. It looks kind of big.

We found a Red-spotted Purple Butterfly sitting on the fire road near the lake.

The Double-crested Cormorant can be seen on our lake.

Some of the birds seen along the fire road, the Indigo Bunting, American Goldfinch, I believe the bottom right is the Eastern Wood-PeWee

I had a problem with my latest blogger "theme" , it was not compatible with Mr Linky for my  Saturday's Critter party. So once again I had to change my theme. I am not sure if it will stay this way, maybe just until I find one I like better that will work for the linky.

I appreciate and thank everyone who links up their post and for all the wonderful comments! I hope you enjoy my post and photos too!

Here is a list of my linky parties;

Saturday's Critters #95

Happy Saturday, it's time to share your critters and post. Any kind of critter will do, even a new or old post.. I appreciate everyone who is linking in with this week's critter party.

After being away from my computer for a week or so, I will catch up with everyone's post as soon as possible. I am sharing some birds and critters seen on our walk to the local Hashawha Nature Center in Carroll County Maryland.

I believe this is a juvenile male Scarlet Tanager, I see dark wings which is a tell-tale sign.  But, I am always open to corrections.

A couple of juvenile Eastern Towhees.

Another juvenile Eastern Towhee.

A Green Heron walking the highwire across the lake.

One of the many slider turtles we saw at the lake.

A Red-spotted Purple Butterfly. I hope you enjoyed my birds and critters from the Hashawha Nature Center. Thank you for stopping by for a visit and thanks for the nice comments. I also appreciate everyone joining in with my critter party. Have a happy weekend!

Around the yard, Aug 17

August 17, 2013

I am linking up Camera Critters and I'd-Rather-b-birdin   I hope you are joining in and posting your birds and critters.

The head of the family..the male Ruby-throated Hummingbird.

When I come home from work I can whistle after putting out some peanuts on my deck railing and the Redbellied Woodie immediately shows up.

The White-Breasted Nuthatch prefers the sunflower seeds or the suet. Above he/she landed on my pergola is waiting for me to put out more seed and go inside.

Above is the Red-spotted Purple butterfly. This butterfly has red spots on its underside and at the top of its wings.

Goldie Girl enjoys fetching sticks at the lake.

Goldie Girl waiting for a stick to be thrown.

I am trying to learn the dragonfly id's. So I believe my dragonfly is the female Common Whitetail.

And  I am guessing on this to be the Blue Dasher.I hope you enjoyed my birds, butterfly, dragonflies and of my Goldie Girl.
