I am sharing some birds and critters from my back yard, photos were taken the middle 2 weeks of September.

The Ruby-throated Hummingbird, 2 were still being seen on Sept 20th.

I was trying to video the hummingbird and butterflies at the buddleia when I notice there were 2 frogs in our little pond.

Painted Lady on the Buddleia and a Red-spotted Purple Butterfly on the Devil's Walking Stick berries.

Looking out my dining room window, I thought I saw my neighbors dog loose on the driveway, but it turned out to be a small deer.

We saw a couple of American Coots.

A frog or toad in the marshland.

A juvenile Bald Eagle almost landed on a tree right above my head. It saw me and took off.

Do you see all three Little Blue Herons?

A pretty Red-winged Blackbird.

A tangled mess of brown water snakes.

Momma snake protecting the baby which was laying on the trail.

On the way back to the car, we saw the Scarlet Tanager and a Canada Warbler.

Just in case there are some Cattle Egrets on the field, I checked out this nearby farm during my visits to the park.

Saturday's Critters #34

Saturday's Critters #34

Happy weekend and welcome to Saturday's Critters!  I am looking forward to seeing what critter everyone has to share this week.. Ok, it's time to share your critters.

Last weekend, hubby and I visited a local park in Maryland called North Point State Park in Baltimore County. It has a wetland area known to attract great birds. I went mainly to see the Little Blue Herons that have been reported being seen at this park..

Above a Great Blue Heron, adult Little Blue Heron and a juvenile Little Blue Heron in the back.

One of my favorite herons the Little Blue Heron. I had no idea this local park had so many Little Blue Herons.. We will be returning to check out this park at another time..

The juvenile Little Blue Heron is white with greenish legs and feet. Their bills can have a black tip.

The Northern Water Snake looking very well fed..It had to be close to 5 feet long.

A cute frog, most of the frogs were jumping into the water when they saw us coming..

Another Little Blue Heron, aren't they pretty?

An Osprey was also seen at the park,  we had an awesome couple of hours birding this park.. I hope you enjoyed my photos and post..

Thank you for linking up to the critter party. I appreciate the visits, comments and the support of my blogging friends................... Have a happy weekend!

Preening Time

I am link up with Green Day  and Camera Critters  and NF Winged
and Id-rather-b-birdin
These are some shots from last week's visit to Bombay Hook. We saw lots of birds and I managed to capture of lot of birds preening. LOL, I think they spend more time preening than I do.

Above my preening birds are ducks, black-necked stilts, stilt and egret, great blue heron and great egrets.

Preening is an essential part of a bird's daily routine. They are more like humans than I thought. The bird uses their beak to remove any debris, move feathers that are out of place and distribute a special oil that is secreted from a gland at the base of the birds tail. The oil helps to keep the birds feathers healthy and shiny. Kind of like the conditioner I use on my hair? I am just glad the birds do not use makeup, I have seen some scary scenes of some girls putting on mascara while driving down the highway in the morning. I think there are some chicks that need more time preening at home.

Two Great Blue herons preening.

Black necked Stilts preening.

These two are not preening but I liked this shot. When I took the shot I only saw the red-eared slider turtle, after I downloading my photos I saw the cute frog next to the turtle.

I hope you enjoyed my post and critters photos.

Backyard Pond

Besides having the beautiful waterlilies our pond is doing exactly what I wanted and that was to attract wildlife. There are probably hundreds of tadpoles, frogs and just the other day I watched this dragonfly dipping into the pond. I believe it was their way of laying eggs.

Dragonfly seen at bottom of photo with its bottom curved

Yellow Waterlilies

A few tadpoles with their wiggly little tails can be seen in shot

                                            Frogs love it.

The birds seem to enjoy the pond too.

I am linking to several memes with my pond post to see more great photos visit
