Saturday's Critters # 359

Welcome to Saturday's Critters!

Hello and happy Saturday!

Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

I have some yard birds, butterflies and a cute critter seen in my yard often.

1.  I've been seeing a few Dark-eyed Juncos in my yard, it is one of my winter birds. This is the male a slated-colored back and sides with a white belly and a pink bill.

2. On Oct 22nd, I was still seeing a Black-throated Blue Warbler in my yard. It does love the berries on the Devils Walking Stick ( Aralia spinosa). I have seen these birds up until the last week of October this year.

 3. Below is another berry loving bird, the White-throated Sparrow. It is a winter bird in my area.

4. On Oct 22 and 23rd I was seeing a couple of Monarch Butterflies and a guess at the Clouded Sulphur  Butterfly. I read that a female can have spots along the border and a double central spot.

 5. My cute critter. is the Chipmunk, I hear it chirping from inside my house.  They can sit and chirp loudly nonstop at times, it sounds like a bird fussing.

6.  A not so good photo taken through the window of my favorite Red-breasted Nuthatch at my feeder.

Thanks to all my visitors and for all the wonderful comments. Stop back to see any replies to your comments. I appreciate everyone who loves critters and has linked up their critter post.

Surprise here I am with more yard birds. These were seen on the weekend of April 18th.   I've been seeing more American Goldfinches lately, the male below has his pretty summer colors.

The Chipmunks are regular visitors to my deck, they know where to find the good food.

There are times I look out my window I see more squirrels than birds.  The critters are well fed.

A pair of Mourning Doves on the deck railing..

A Carolina Wren searching for sunflower seeds or suet crumbs.

Sharing a meal are the Pine Warbler and a Downy Woodpecker.

I have not shared our new Grand-puppy, Winnie the Corgi has now joined our other grand-pups Nibbles and Chewy. We met Winnie the Corgi for the first on March 15th, before the stay at home started.

I hope everyone is safe, healthy and happy!

These are some of my yard birds, Monarch butterflies and a couple of neighborhood birds from our walk on the fire road. They were seen from Sept 25 to Sept 29th.

On Sept 25th, the female Red-bellied Woodpecker at my suet ball feeder.

Sept 27th Northern Cardinal trying to hide from my camera.

Chipmunk caught in the act, the mouth shape looks like a peanut.

On Sept 29th we walked on the fire road for about 3 miles round trip. The next 4 photos are from 9/29. This Northern Flicker was calling out to another, when I found it sitting high in a tree top.

Off the fire road, I was watching a few birds eating these berries.  Below is a Tufted Titmouse.

I am guessing this is a Red-tailed Hawk, I see a dark belly band and dark tips on the wings and brown head.

A close cropped photo of the hawk in flight.

Saturday's Critters #255

Welcome to Saturday's Critters !

As of Oct 25th I was still seeing the Screech Owl in my front yard. A few times it was seen outside my window that I call my Treadmill window. I have posted often about the birds I have seen out my "treadmill" window.  It is actually our den window facing the front yard.

Oct 17th, during the  evening I heard a bang, the poor owl must have flown into the window. Or he was chased into the window. Not the best photo below, but you can see the owl's wings looked a little ragged. But, it was Ok and left a little later.

Another evening I heard the owl calling before I saw it again out the same window. It likes sitting in our rhododendron bush which is right next to the window and house. Sorry, these owl photos were taking from my hallway looking toward the window so I would not spook the owl.

The weekend of Oct 26th we were dog watching for my son, he went on trip to Salem Ma for a long weekend. We enjoy the company of our grand-dogs, Nibbles and Chewy.

Chewy is on the left and Nibbles is on the right.

Oct 25th the Painted Lady butterfly on the butterfly bush.

Oct 23rd, the chipmunk filling his cheeks.

Oct 28th the Screech Owl was back looking into my window.  I had to lighten this photo, it was getting dark out and I did not use a flash.

Oct 31st, the Screech Owl is again sitting in the rhododendron in the evening.  This photo was taken using ISO 3200 and I still had to lighten in my photo program.

I appreciate and thank everyone who links up their post and for all the wonderful comments !

Saturday's Critters #191

Welcome to Saturday's Critters!

I am sharing some critters from our last visit to Shenandoah Nat'l Park and Skyline Drive. It is a favorite place for a daytrip,  we enjoy hiking on the trails and just riding on the Skyline Drive.

I have to admit, seeing the black bears at this park is a thrill. This black bear below looked kind of young and skinny. I hope it survives.

On the Limberlost Trail I watched these two Hairy Woodpeckers pecking at the same tree. The Hairy Woodpeckers look like the Downy Woodpecker only bigger in size. Their bill is larger in size too. It is hard getting a clear shot of one moving woodpecker much less two woodpeckers. Their heads are always pecking into the trees, lol.

I believe this is the Field Sparrow below, if not I would appreciate the id help. It was seen at the Big Meadows, Shenandoah. The Field Sparrow has a pink bill.

Also on our Big Meadows walk we saw lots of Swallows, I believe these are the Barn Swallows.

The Big Meadows is an awesome spot in the park for a walk. We saw lots of butterflies and birds. I think this is the Wood Nymph Butterfly. Edited my butterfly id thanks to Karolina.

I appreciate and thank everyone who links up their post and for all the wonderful comments! I hope you enjoy my post and photos too!

Linking up Camera Critters and I'd-Rather-b-birdin
I hope you are joining in and posting your birds and critters.

These are some scenes from last weekend up thru today.  Mostly sharing shots of my yardbirds, I am never tired of watching my yardbirds. The migrating warblers have been a real treat to see stopping in my yard for some berries. I believe last Saturday was my last sighting of my Ruby-throated Hummingbirds.  I will leave the hummer feeders up in case there are any hummers traveling south and need to stop for a re-fill.

The shot above and the one below are the beautiful Cape May Warbler.

The Nashville Warbler...I was wondering who named the warblers. There are many that have the names of places..like Nashville and Cape May...Tennessee...Connecticut...Canada....Kentucky.

A pretty juvenile Nashville Warbler.

One of my regular year round birds...the Carolina Chickadee.

Possibly my last sighting of the Ruby-throated Humming bird..until next year...see you then.

Goldie Girl goes for a walk to the lake.

Last but not least..a chipper to make you laugh!!! He/she has a peanut in each cheek and tried to take another. I hope you enjoyed this series of birds and critters.

Thanks for stopping by and  I wish everyone a happy weekend.

A Variety show

I am linking up with Camera Critters and I'd-rather-b-birdin

Happy March!!!

Wow, the first Saturday of March already, the days are flying by. Spring will be here with my flowers popping out of the ground. YEA!!! For my critter post, I have a few ducks, geese, goats, chipmunk, cardinal and a bluejay. I would say a real variety of birds and critters.

Hubby and I made a quick stop at one of the local reservoirs to see what kind of ducks were around. We did see some ducks and lots of Canada Geese but there were some other critters that surprised me.

I was not expecting to see goats with the geese along with a couple of Ring-necked ducks and a American Wigeon.

The goats were behind a fence, but this guy came up to visit with me.

Do you remember the old variety/comedy shows on TV?  I am old enough to remember the Ed Sullivan show ( my first glimpse of the Beatles) , Smothers Brothers, Carol Burnett, Sonny & Cher show and what about the funny Laugh-in comedy show. I miss these variety/comedy shows. Now, I am watching a lot of crime/drama or I watching the show in my backyard.

I am not sure if I have a Redhead above or if it is a Canvasback? I am thinking a Redhead because the Canvasback has a darker beak. It is my first sighting of a Redhead this year.

The variety show continues in my yard.....above a Cardinal with a chipmunk.

Can you find the chipmunk with a Bluejay?  I have been spreading birdseed around the yard. I am using one of the tree stumps that my darling hubby was nice enough to roll  around to various spots in the yard. I am sure these stumps were heavy to move.

I hope you enjoyed my variety show post and critters. Thank you for visiting my post and blog. I also appreciate the comments.

Around the yard

For my Green Day and  Camera Critters  and I'd-Rather-B-Birdin
I am taking a walk around my yard and sharing some  flowering plants and a few birds and critters.

A bluejay molting.

A cute chipmunk enjoying my birdseed.

One of my regular yardbirds is the White-Breasted Nuthatch.

The birds are not the only ones that like this feeder. My last post showed a Grosbeak inside feeder chowing down on the birdseed.

These impatiens have been blooming since last spring. They do look pretty next to our driveway.
