Another post of mish-mash images, from our local walks. Of course I have some back yard birds and butterflies. Is it just me or are Saturdays or any day rolling around pretty fast?  Between dialysis for hubby three times a week and doctor and test appointments, they go even faster. I wish I could slow time down.

Click on images for better viewing.

1. A walk with Miney on the local Prettyboy fire road.  The trail looks familiar I am sure, it is one of my favorite local walks. The deer bow hunting has started in the reservoir watershed, I am kind of leery walking on the trail when I see lots of trucks parked nearby.

2. Merlin app birds heard during my walk with Miney.

I've been seeing the Gray Catbird in my yard, I think they are enjoying the various berries.

3. The Carolina Wren is one of my year round back yard birds.

4. Another visit with our son and his family, Pop-pop loves some hugs from our grandsons. Our son is still finishing up work on the deck he built on the back of his home.

5. Google search is saying the butterfly below is called the Painted Lady Butterfly. It has the white spots on the tips of their wings.

6. I created a mosaic of images from my walk with Miney to the Prettyboy reservoir.

A large flock of geese were pecking away at the grass and mud.

7. The Merlin app birds heard during our walk to the Prettyboy Reservoir. You can see the lake is more like a stream, we need rain.

8. Below the American Robin is one of the common birds seen in my area.

9. The Prettyboy Reservoir is dry in a lot of spots, it is mostly grass, weeds and mud now.

A sad message and remembrance, I know a few bloggers remember Ken and his blog, he lived in Florida for awhile and posted about his walks there and on the birds that visited his back yard. He eventually moved to Connecticut to live with his daughter since he was so sick. Prayers and condolences to his family, Ken will be missed. Thanks to Diane of Lavender dreams blog for letting me know about Ken passing.

1. These images are from Sept 1st, I saw around 4-5 Baltimore Orioles enjoying the Devil's Walking stick berries. The Peacock was sitting on the deck rail and the Pileated Woodpecker was on a tree outside the bedroom window.

The male Baltimore Oriole, a few males and one female. The Baltimore Oriole is Maryland's state bird. I was happy to see these birds in my yard eating the berries.

2. Sept 3rd, we stopped at the Susquehanna River State Park picnic area, at the pond area we saw a few slider turtles with a Green Heron.

3. A closer look at one of the turtles and the Green Heron.

4. Great Blue Heron at the Susquehanna River.,

5. Double-crested Cormorant sitting on a rock in the Susquehanna River.

6. Looking outside my dining room window, I saw the silhouette of the Ruby-throated Hummingbird enjoying the fuchsia flowers.

7. Sept 4th, below are the Cape May Warblers. The second photo is the more colorful male Cape May Warbler.

Male Cape May Warbler, almost hidden by all the Devil's Walking Stick berries.

8. Backyard bunny!

9. Sept 4th NCR bike trail, I believe this is a family of Eastern Phoebes.

10. Sept 6th , backyard birds are the  Ruby-throated Hummingbird and Robins. The American Robins were enjoying the berries on the Devil's Walking Stick tree/bush.

Later the same day we took our walk on the NCR trail, I noticed some American Goldfinches eating seeds off a plant nearby and the Belted Kingfisher was perched on a branch over the water.

Saturday's Critters # 551

Welcome to Saturday's Critters! Hello and Happy Saturday!

Can you believe it is July already, the days and months are flying by. I am still sharing photos from our April Arizona trip and photos of our walks and backyard bird from May. Today's post is a mish-mash of images from my yard, neighborhood and our local trails.

1. A walk to the Prettyboy lake, a blurry photo of a White-eyed Vireo, Red Admiral Butterfly, Double-crested Cormorants, the reservoir, Canada Geese, Cliff Swallows at the dam.

2.  The Eastern Bluebirds raised at least 2 broods this year. I am glad to see them using my birdhouses and they are doing well.

3. The Peacock liked walking and sitting on our deck railing.

4. I noticed a pair of Great-crested Flycatchers sitting on my deck, sunning themselves? When they saw me with the camera they flew to a nearby tree.

5.  In my yard, I was seeing the Eastern Bluebirds, Downy Woodpeckers, American Robin, Gray Catbird, Great-crested Flycatchers and the neighbors Peacock was becoming a daily visitor to our deck.

6. Various photos of the Peacock that made repeated visits to our deck.

7. Out our den window perched in the rhododendron was the Gray Catbird and at another time the Robin. Both birds were knocking on the window.

8. The Black Rat Snake on our deck, I think it was hoping to find a meal in my Bluebird House. Luckily the house was empty and hubby chased the snake off of the deck.

9. From one of our walks on our local fire road, I was hearing the Eastern Wood Pewee, Acadian Flycatcher and I believe there was an Eastern Phoebe, I saw a Baltimore Oriole high in a tree and than there were 3 of the Orioles chasing some crows away. The Mountain Laurel is blooming and looking pretty.

At the end of May we stopped seeing the Peacock, I am not sure where it goes.  My neighbors have not seen it but they have notice a fox with kits has been hanging out across from their driveway. The Black Bear came back one night and got into the trash again but we did not see it since the first sighting.

We are grand-dog sitting Winnie the Corgi, excitedly waiting for the birth of our granddaughter. Should hear news soon.

Edit: We now have a beautiful granddaughter Sophie born July 3rd, 6lb 15oz.

Saturday's Critters # 528

Welcome to Saturday's Critters! Hello and Happy Saturday!

A month behind, I am still trying to catch up. These images start with an early morning Christmas day walk to the lake.

1. Our walk was on a fire road that leads to the lake and a view of the Bald Eagle's nest.  We didn't see an Eagle on the nest but there was an adult Eagle in one tree and a juvenile across the lake.

2. This Bald Eagle was calling to another Eagle that flew away from the tree.

3. Dec 29th, our walk was to our back part of the lake. We were happy to see a large flock of Canada Geese and 20-30 Common Mergansers.  We were a distance away and the Mergansers were still spooked and flew further across the lake.

Below is one male Common Merganser with three females. The male has more white on it's body and a green head. I cropped this photo, I wish it was a clearer photo they were a good distance away.

4. Just a few of the Canada Geese seen at the lake.

5. Along the fire road we watched a flock of Eastern Bluebirds, I was surprised to see a large group hanging out together.  Below are the Male Bluebird on the left and the female is one the right.

6. On New Year's day I like to record the first bird I see, it was the Blue Jay. After putting out some peanut nuggets on the deck railing, the Blue Jays were the first bird I saw along with the Dark-eyed Junco, Tufted Titmouse and the White-throated Sparrows.

7. Jan 2nd, our walk to the front part of the lake. We saw 3 Bald Eagles, 2 in flight and one sitting in a tree. A big flock of Robins were seen along the fire road.

8. I was able to snap a few photos of the Robins, they were flying back and forth across the fire road as walked close.

Jan 24th, was our grandson Mason's 2nd birthday, we were happy to be there to celebrate on the actual day.

Here is a Saturday's Critters badge if you would like to add it to your post.
