During our visit to the Outer Banks we stopped at the Currituck Lighthouse located in Corolla, NC. I just loved the nature trail and boardwalk on the grounds of the Lighthouse. It was at the end of this boardwalk that I saw these two Killdeer. Usually I see them on farm land but this time the Killdeer were hanging out at the muddy area of some marshland near the trail. They are cute birds with their double breastband.

What a name, Killdeer. Did they kill deer before?

Love killdeer, and they can be surprisingly hard to photograph well. Congratulations on a good capture.
Eileen,thanks for posting these lovely photo's of the killdeer bird.-Guess what?..I have been saying,"killde",all my life I have pronounce this WRONG,I googled,killdeer!..just goes to show we are never too old to learn something new.Love it!

Eileen -- We missed Corolla and this lighthouse -- oh now we'll have to go back!! (I really seriously do hope we get to do that someday.) I love kildeer -- wherever they are!

I've always enjoy these birds. I think so many people pass them over because they are so common at times. However, when you stop to actually look at Killdeer, they are simply gorgeous!
