Around the yard

I am linking up with Camera Critters

These are a few birds from around my yard and from when I did my count at the study area of the clear cut.

Last weekend I went out on my deck and I could hear a Pileated Woodpecker nearby. It turned out it was more than one maybe the whole family. I was able to click a few not so good shots before they moved away.

Some of the sounds they were making sounded more like juveniles than the adults I am use to hearing and seeing.

One was on the ground and another on the tree and there were still more around.

At the study area of the clear cut I saw a few Eastern Kingbirds chasing each other around. You can see the white line across the bottom of their tail. I think it looks like they dipped their tail feather in some white paint. The highlight at the study area was seeing these two Kingbirds and two Great Crested Flycatchers chasing each other.

The Indigo Bunting was another bird I was able to add to my count at the study area. I hope you enjoyed seeing my birds.

Love the woody--we have some here in the Park, but I haven't been able to get a good picture. -- The first time I saw Indigo buntings was in Texas when we first started RVing -- I almost couldn't believe what I was seeing...woke up one morning to a whole yard full of them. (And was somewhat disappointed when everybody else said "yup, happens every year!"

Nice Eileen. The Indigo and Pileated W. are beautiful birds. I hope to see the Indigo at some point. You have some of the coolest birds visiting your yard. We do to....but it's always nice to see the other birds that don't visit:) Thanks for sharing.

Hi Eileen, Every time I see a Pileated Woodpecker on a blog (we don't have them here) I can't help thinking that it looks exactly as if it is wearing a little red hat, so sweet :-)

I love the Bluejay on the last post and it was wonderful to see the photos of the Dolphins and Pelicans on an earlier post.

I hope you are having a lovely weekend!

What a thrill it must be having a femily of Pileated Woodpeckers in your garden like that Eileen. Kingbirds are rather nice too with as you show and say, their tails dipped in white paint.

It's always so lovely to see the birds in your posts. Spectacular patch of red on the Pileated Woodpecker. The Indigo bunting is new to me.

All of them are beautiful in many different ways but I love the woodpecker!

It's always fun to see what flies into your yard. We recently discovered 2 bird nests in our yard. I like that hairdo on those woodpeckers.

Hi Eileen, we have a woodpecker so small but also with a red head like that, but my lens is not capable of getting it well. Besides, it is not always in our area. I am inviting you to see my oriole. I wonder how it differs with your orioles there.

LOVE the Pileated!! ALL your birds!

you're so good at snapping those shots! i have a hard time with most of the birds around here...unless they're feeling a little sluggish...and sit still for more than a few seconds!

GREAT captures!! :)

Maybe that's the woodpecker we have in our trees. I never get a great shot of him, but he has a red head. I always hear him early in the morning!
