I am linking up with Wild Bird Wednesday and Nature Notes
My featured bird this week is the American Goldfinch.. The male is a vibrant yellow in the summer and olive color in the winter months. The female is a dull yellow and brighten a little during the summer. They are about 4.3 to 5.5 inches long.
Their beak is small, conical and pink for most of the year but will turn a bright orange with the spring molt. The Goldfinch eats insects and dines on the seed of the annual plants.
Looks like a cute juvie.. the color on the beak looks a little different..But the juvenile is usually olive-brown in color so maybe this is a first year male?
The song of the Goldfinch is a mixture of warbles and twitters often with a long note. I hope you enjoyed my Goldfinches..
I am looking forward to seeing your wild birds. I will be doing a special post tomorrow..my first as a contributor to Birding is fun I hope you can visit me there.

Goldfinches are some of the pretties birds in nature with their beautiful yellow hues and sweet faces.
Great captures Eileen- thanks for sharing.
Wonderful shots of the goldfinches. I haven't seen any here yet but I tend to see them at the end of the summer and in fall when they munch on coneflowers that have gone to seed.
Nice catch! I just saw my first goldfinch in Atlanta recently.
Beautiful BLOG!! I love wildlife! Oh wow. I am not good at capturing birds and small insects even tho I may try but WOW, you are really good... I enjoyed my visit immensely... thank you.
Glad to be back.. and I will come to visit again...

I really think that I've never, ever seen a goldfinch. Such a pretty bird!
Love your yellow Goldfinches Eileen. Super pictures again.
I look forward to your first post:) But I also enjoy checking out your birds here. The finches are such sweet birds in all their wonderful colors. And I like having them at my feeders except we get the Lesser Goldfinches here.

Great photos of this personable little bird. We have quite a few at the feeder this year, and they always lift my spirits.
One of my favorite little birds, Eileen. They are so pretty--and seem to be such good little birds... They flit in and out of the feeder area all day long.
Hugs,
Betsy
I look forward to this time of year when I see them sitting on plants with seeds. They are pretty all year round, actually, bit especially this time of year.

Hi Eileen, What cuties those American Goldfinches are! I especially like your picture of the juvenile in the second picture. Have a fabulous Wed. tomorrow!
We have a few on our feeder here now that we're back in Oregon -- and I have taken a few pictures, not nearly as good (I'll keep trying). They are so fun to watch.
You got some really great photos of these little cuties. The juvie is adorable, I don't thing I have ever seen one before. I have been seeing goldfinches around the edge of our yard but none up close.
Love those little birds. I've seen a few flying around the cone flowers here in my yard.
Nice profile of the Goldfinch!
I love the Goldfinches and have many that come to my feeder. They are so fun to watch. I've not seen many lately, tho, so I'm a little worried. Even though we have the kittens running around, I've moved the feeder further away and they had been coming to it regularly. They must have found a new diner! Love your photos!
Such colorful and cute creatures!
I just love those goldfinches!
They are beautiful but smaller than I imagined.
Dearest Eileen,
Lovely and beautiful American Goldfinch. How wonderful you showed us both the adult and sweet juvenile♡♡♡
Sending you lots of love and hugs from Japan, xoxo Miyako*

I saw a couple around my area, but they were on the move..
Marvelous little birds goldfinches and great photos as always. Have a great day Eileen!
Eileen, what a beauty! Precious.
I like goldfinches too. We are awash with them right now. I even did a Goldfinch post also. MB
Very beautiful Eileen.
They're so pretty!!! Since living in Texas I've seen only ONE. And this year, I promised myself to get some thistle seed socks.....hopefully I can lure them into my backyard.
They are so lovely, both these birds and your photos! I don't think this bird lives in Sweden.
Thanks a lot for your comment, Eileen! Yes, I suppose the blood thinning medicine helps. I have to check the blood quite often now in the beginning and must eat medicine in about a half year.
Greetings Pia
Podziwiam te ptaszki. Ich złote kolory są śliczne. Pozdrawiam.
I admire these birds. Their golden color is beautiful. Yours.
I didn't know about the bill change.... Great photos... Michelle
As always I love your bird photos you are able to get.
Love Leanne
Beautiful photos, beautiful bird:) Greetings
I love seeing the Goldfinches. Today I was cutting some flowers for inside and a little Goldfinch lit on a bush about a foot away from me. I was startled . . . but he was more so when he saw me and then went flitting away . . . Such a bright, brilliant yellow in the Goldfinch.
Love the colors of this finch. :)
I love the colour of these pretty birds.
I definitely enjoyed your Goldfinches Eileen, thank you. They are such sweet birds.
What excellent shots of lovely birds! Our goldfinches, the introduced European Goldfinch, have very different markings. I like the little black cap on the bird in the top image.
