Around the Yard _Jan 5

I am linking up with Mosaic Monday and Our World Tuesday

January 5, 2014

We seem to be having snowstorms or freezing rain every couple of days now.. I am already tired of winter and I wish Spring would arrive early..

Our pine trees branches heavy from the snow are hanging over near the driveway.

I've been keeping the birds well fed during these super cold days.  It is suppose to be even colder next week.  I hope everyone stays warm and safe.

The view out my dining room window..I shoveled a path around the deck to walk and fill the bird feeders.

The White-throated  Sparrows usually like to feed off the ground, so I throw some food on top of the snow.

Thanks for visiting my blog. I always appreciate your comments.

ummmm, you don't love snow, shamefull!! hehe, i am partial to all the changing seasons and weather patterns. your images would not be as beautiful in summer, without the snow!!

and i find the birds are slower in the winter, they pause longer at the feeders. they are hungry and food is harder to find!!

the skies and sunsets are more beautiful as well!!

it's 44 degress here at the shore, we are getting rain and the snow is melting ;(

That red bird looks so nice on the snow covered branches, and I love that icy road (although I doubt it's fun to drive on it).

Beautiful the Cardinal, it stands out among all others, perfection.

The Red Cardinal is surely a bright colour against the white, hope you fare well in the week ahead with more cold weather. Cheers, Jean.

Hi Eileen,

Wow! That beautiful cardinal is such a burst of colour and warmth against all that cold, heavy snow! Just saw the international headlines on the evening news: looks like your neck of the woods, along with Southern Ontario and eastern Canada are headed for a major snowstorm and more freezing temps! Hang in there!

Stay warm and safe!

Looks like the same birds visiting my feeders are visiting yours!

I like the idea of scattering seed on the deck for the ground feeders but I think Topaz would likely eat most of it.
Great shot of the sparrow with the corn in his beak.

Hi Eileen. You have a while before spring arrives! Your photos of snow and birds are great. Just keep warm.

Your photos are showing the best of winter, so anyone else whose not going through it may be envious! :-) But I am right there with you--This cold and ice got old by the end of the first day! Stay safe and warm, the worst is predicted to be here on Tuesday. burrrrrr!!!!

It certainly looks cold. The red cardinal even looks unhappy. I am glad you are feeding them.
I have seen on the TV the bad weather you are having in the US. Stay warm and have a cosy week.

Hi Eileen, Oh you sure did get hit with the cold! I love the shot of the male Cardinal in the snow. That is a beautiful photo. We also will be quite cold (for Florida that is) on Monday night - forecast is for upper 20's with wind chill perhaps at single digit levels. Hope you have a good week and that you and yours stay warm and safe! Blogger is acting funny about my wordpress account so I will sign with wildlife watcher.wordpress.com.

Love seeing the pretty birds in the snow, but I am ready for Spring also. Thanks for stopping by and comment. Thought I would add the talking squirrel to an otherwise dreary post.
I messed up and deleted your comment for accident. I have had this notebook for over 2 years and still have issues with the touch control. I have to make sure the cursor is way over to the side while reading or the slightest thing will make it click. I am so sorry. :(
Have a great week and stay warm.

Eileen, you can't be tired of winter yet! It's hardly got here!

Without you feeding the birdies I imagine they would perish in their thousands in the bitter cold of winter.
I say a big thank you on behalf of all the birds!!!

Beautiful photos Eileen - I think I would feel like you after too much snow and ice...
The rain we get here in winter is inclined to get us down too!

Topsy turvy world. The snow looks very welcome to me at the moment as we are sweltering through a heatwave and the poor birds all have there beaks wide open panting trying to keep cool. I have put out water for them.

The Cardinal and the sparrow add some splashes of colour to your snowy garden Eileen. Like you i soon tire of the winter and long for some warm sunshine. Here's hoping we get some soon. Take care with all that ice around and have a good week ahead.

Snow makes for pretty photos but I know what you mean and I agree totally. I didn't know that about the sparrow liking to eat off the ground. I'll have to remember that. Thanks Eileen, stay warm :)

Your cardinal photographs are so beautiful. It seems like the eastern and mid-west sections of the country are getting slammed this winter with lots of snow and frigid temperatures. Best to stay inside and warm!

Your photos are beautiful! Love the pictures of the cardinals. We see them here in the winter, and they are very tricky to photograph! Great job!

Hi Eileen
Wow that snow though is a really good backdrop for the red cardinal (she says reading the name from the other comments and trying to sound knowledgeable, I mean everyone would expect a Wren to know her cardinals from her red birds?!!!)
Good news I have been working on some critters for a Saturday post. I might get overtaken by the tennis this week but we'll see, I'll be back with you soon!!
Have a great week
