Linking up with Wild Bird Wednesday and Nature Notes
For this week's wild bird I am sharing the Great Horned Owl and owlet.. Recently I was able to find the adult Great Horned Owl and an owlet in a local Maryland park. I must say while birding I always stay on the trail and never get too close to any bird..My camera has good zoom, sometimes I do wish some tree branches would disappear..
I do not think I would have seen the adult Great Horned Owl but it was being harassed by some crows..
A cute owlet, I wish the branches were not in the way..It still has that fuzzy look.
Again with the branches in the way, Momma or Poppa was looking around at the some the nearby birders..
Another shot of the owlet, there were two baby owls but we only found the one.
These owls were seen right off a busy and popular bike & walking trail near a residential neighborhood..I hope you enjoyed my owl post.. these pic's are the best I could do..

Eileen, your eyes are so sharp! I think I would not be able to differentiate the owl from the branches, the color is almost the same. The branches tend to get in the way but thank you, they are beautiful photos!

how wonderful to be able to spot these owls, hassling corvids will definitively be of great for us to localize them, poor things!

Nice capture, Eileen. They certainly do blend in well.
I have trouble getting my camera to focus on certain things. I'm not very good with photography--I have to let the camera make all the decisions, but sometimes "he" and I are thinking different shots-ha ha.

Thank you for your visit to my blog. My friend died a few years after this party. That was last year when she became 91. She was not very happy as she couldn't walk and move around. Her world had become so small.

Those tree branches often get in the way Eileen. But I always tell myself that the picture looks authentic and natural with branches and I'm always suspicious of bird pictures which have no natural look or feel about them. Anyway, your pictures are fine and full marks for not disturbing the owls in any way.
I have been thrilled with several blogs who have shared owlettes! What a joy it must be to see a successful nest and enjoy these fuzzy cuties! I always want to see an adult owl, but never do! I think your photos are just wonderful!

I can't even count the number of photos I've taken where I've had to say "well, that would have been a cool shot except for the stupid tree/branch/leaf in the way!" I think your photos are amazing - parent and baby owl in the wild? So cool!

The owls and owlets are beyond wonderful. And I think it's great that you pointed out the importance of staying on the path and not harassing the birds. A good zoom helps a lot, your pics are so good. I do know what you mean about the branches tho.
I know what you mean about wishing branches would disappear but oh my goodness Eileen, your photos of the owl are great. I would love seeing one of these in the wild.

Hi Eileen... those are fabulous shots. With the owl being nestled amongst the branches, it seems right. Yes, it's tricky trying to take photos but you did real good, and it's a real treat to see.

Great post Eileen. For me I think bird photography greatest challenge, is tree branches, but I like getting them in trees better than on wires. My personal problem is my Nikon makes a clicking noise when the shutter strikes and so birds are always on high alert.
Those dadgum tree limbs are my nemesis! lol Despite that, these are great shots. I have only seen the Great-horned Owl in Oregon, but I know we have them here. I just need to keep looking!

There is a couple of owls that hang around in the backwoods, but they are so stealthy.
I only see them when they fly away :)

How exciting to see the owlets! I've never had the opportunity to photograph owls but I've always loved them, they are beautiful creatures. Thank you for sharing your experience, Eileen.
He is beautiful. I used to see many owls when I lived in Alberta. Only once have I seen a grey owl here on one of the trees out front.
I've never seen an owl outside Winnie the Pooh! But I already know he is very wise.

Owls are so different from other birds. For one they are night birds and have that scary and piercing stare.
Before I started birding, I would never have taken notice of birds harassing other creatures - now when I hear it I take a closer look. I've seen koalas, possums and raptors, and sometimes unusual birds the others don't like - most recently a Southern Boobook which there's NO WAY I would have seen without the other birds! It's amazing what they'll tell you! Your owl is awesome!
Owls are particularly good at hiding amongst the branches!

I have never seen an owl in the wild. So, I really enjoyed these pictures. Maybe I am never in the right place at the right time. I'm no night owl... hehe.

I wish we had owls close by...they are such fascinating creatures...
Crows and Jays. They are helpful when it comes to locating these secretive birds. But gosh they must be annoying to the owls!

this is a species I have never seen. We have a similar one but I´ve not seen it.
Any encounter with a Great Horned Owl is pretty special in my book.
