For this week's Good Fence and Skywatch Friday memes I am sharing our neighborhood Great Blue Herons and some backyard skywatches. The Great Blue Heron nest is across from my neighbors house and lately some of the juveniles have been making their way down to my neighbors yard and fence.

Love this post! "Great blue heron fence shot" ... this gave me a smile. And I love the shot of the abandoned juvenile heron through the trees. He's keeping his eye on you Eileen ;) Cotton balls clouds and hummingbird skies were great descriptions.

"Overloaded with shots?" NEVER! Each one is a striking beauty. What a lovely neighborhood setting you have! It is so unintrusive...humans sharing space with wildlife (that was there first!) in a respectful way!

And I'm so thankful... all these details and aspects of nature are so welcome for the calm of my soul... I think I told you, already that with my camera can't do good pics of birds... nor photographed the moon just like this one in yours well and amazing captured moments and shared with us...
I feel that i'm on that path... and I see from very close the blue heron... under the sky with those white clouds...

your photos are once again fantastic. i like the one with the tiny bird sitting in the big blue sky.. and I love the one of the heron on the nest in the middle of all that greenery. we have helicopters all the time, we are in the flight path for the trauma hospital and also have 2 sheriff helicopters. i have not a single photo, now you know i will be watching

Nice shots of the great blue herons! How lucky to have so many live near your home.
LOVE the pictures of the great blue heron. We see them up at our family camp on the St. Lawrence River. They always seem like birds from another era, prehistoric almost.
The Sentinel stands guard over his territory ... what an awesome, well composed, beautifully captured picture. I love the blue herons. And, the rest of your pictures are awesome too and you did it again with the moon (your SX40, I assume:) Did you use a tripod with your moon shot? Nope, not a bit overloaded ... I could look at your pictures forever, Eileen.

I loved your pictures... You could never overload, because the pictures are great and you tell great stories in just a few words! The heron looks very odd on the fence. I have seen a LOT of GBs and never have I seen them perched like that. I used to watch a heron rookery and they looked pretty silly perched on tiny branches, but at least their nest was nearby. A very interesting post, as always!

Beautiful shots. I never know what to do when I see juvenile birds on the ground. What I read is to leave them alone so that is what I do.
