This past week blogland has lost a sweet blogger Pat @ Bailey Road she was a nature lover, dog lover and a great photographer. Pat will be missed. Rest in peace, Pat. My prayers go out to Pat's husband and family.
On Oct 3rd of our Washington State trip we drove to Cape Flattery it is the north westernmost point of the United States and is also part of the Makah Reservation. It is where the Strait of Juan de Fuca meets the Pacific Ocean. I think I have mentioned before it hardly rains during my vacations, hubby is amazed with my luck. We did have rain one day during our stay at the beach but 1 rainy day out of 9 days is not bad.
Cape Flattery Lighthouse is on Tatoosh Island, Makah Bay are on one side and Neah Bay is on the other side of the Cape.
There is a hike through the forest, some of the trail was on a boardwalk. To see Cape Flattery you must purchase a pass from the Makah Indian Reservation to visit this site. The trail is 1.5 miles round trip.
It was a beautiful day with a clear blue sunny sky.
The coastline scenery around the Cape Flattery is gorgeous, we could see some sea caves from above.
At times we watched 2 gray whales, we could see their spray, body and tails coming out of the water.
Above some of the wildlife we saw while we were at Cape Flattery. Top Row: various gulls, Surf Scoters, Cormorant. Middle Row we saw two Gray Whales. Bottom Row is the Black Oystercatcher. Cape Flattery is at the northern boundary of the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary. It was a couple hour drive from Port Angeles but the visit to Cape Flattery was well worth the drive. Wonderful views of Cape Flattery, what a nice blue!
How beautiful! A part of the Washington Coast we've never visited. I have added it to my wish/ hope list. Beautifully made pics and mosaics, as always. I am sorry to learn about Pat, I have always enjoyed my visits to her pretty big, her pictures were works of art!
I can't believe you visited the Olympic Peninsula and it didn't rain! It's rained both times I've visited. I need to take you with me next time I visit. :)
Wow - you really made the most of your time when you were out here in our lovely area. Did you happen to stay at the Kingfisher Inn at Neah Bay? It was built and run by friends of mine - they are now retired. She would hold quilting classes and retreats - it was a very popular destination. Loved the photos of the birds and scenery.

Spectacular nature! I read somewhere that Captain Cook also came to Cape Flattery. My daughter lives in Cooktown in Queensland Australia. It was in 1770 that captain Cook there landed. He was all over the world! A great candidate for Our World on Tuesday!

I think the West Coast has a spectacular coastline..Just gorgeous..We did SF and south to Pebble Beach..I remember being disappointed in my pictures when I got home..It was before the digital days..Thanks for sharing..

This is my kind of place with a camera hanging by my side. (I use a BlackRapid strap) So much to see on the land and in the water.
I visited Pat's blog to see if I could recall being there before, which I couldn't. God bless her husband for letting blogging friends know how she was and when she passed away.

It is a lovely place, lots of things to see and photograph. But those caves look scary! However the boarded walks look so friendly and inviting, hmmm, if only we were nearer. About Pat's passing to the other side, sometimes when i read about a blogger who is sick or who tells us about an illness, then suddenly not posting at all, i just prayed for them because we don't have any means of knowing what happened to them. In fact, since i have been blogging for many years, many of those i follow are not there anymore! Rest in peace friends.

I don't know how much your pass cost Eileen but it was obviously good value for money.
Such a beautiful (and I suspect remote) place which are becoming hard to find in this crowded world. Islands have a special attraction which is hard to quantify.

Hi Eileen, Although I've been in Washington State for what seems like forever, I've never seen Cape Flattery. After seeing your pictures I'm going to put it on the list of must see places. Great photos! By the way, you were quite lucky to get so many dry days during your trip. That rain forest over on the Olympic Peninsula is one of the wettest spots in the country! Those sea caves, the whale tails, oh my and I see those wooden paths that hands have built and placed and I think I wish we could do that in our wood, oh too much to think of, yet those ifs.

In the photo, Pat doesn't look any older than me and it all happened so fast. She had left me a comment that she was having trouble with her back and then the hospital and gone..I love her photos too... I enjoy yours too Eileen... sorry to be a downer... I have lost three blogger friends...Michelle
