Happy Monday everyone!
November is rolling right along, Thanksgiving is this week on the 22nd. HAPPY THANKSGIVING! I made my shopping list and I will be ready for some cooking. The house always smells good while cooking a turkey and all the side dishes. We usually have leftovers for days to come.
My blogging friends know me by now, I am addicted to birds and bird watching. I am happy to be able watch the birds right from the comfort of my home.
I bought a new finch feeder, it took a day or so for the American Goldfinches to find the new thistle feeder. Check out the finches reflection in the feeder. These photos were taken between 11/4 and 11/11/18. I am hoping for some new winter birds to show up in my yard, I will be updating with new post.
The days have been chilly to me, temps in the low 40's is not my kind of walking weather outdoors. When the wind blows the temps feel like it is in the 30's. So, I enjoy the warmth of the house and looking out my dining room window at the birds on my deck and at the feeders.
The winter Dark-eyed Juncos have arrived in my yard. This day I saw at least 3 of them on my deck.
The Carolina Wren was eating droppings from the suet feeder.
The Red-breasted Nuthatch is resting on top of the pergola.
The Yellow-bellied Sapsucker decided to try for some of the peanut suet balls, the squirrels left a tiny bit in the feeder.
The Red-breasted Nuthatch was looking for seed on the deck.
The Red-bellied Woodpecker is a regular visitor to the feeders and deck. My son put a new railing on for us, I wonder how long it will last after the birds peck at it.

Hi Eileen, I'm so glad you like to take pics of birds (and do so so well!) since these are the ones I wish I coud stil see...we have bears so can't have feeders. And when I walk (warmth is helpful, yes!) I can't see many and catch them with my phone camera. Have a happy beginning of the week!
You & me both. Birds, birds, birds. But, you have such a great variety of backyard burds...me? Just doves & sparrows in the feeders for the most part.

beautiful birds, as you know, i watch mine from indoors as well. we are lucky. i like the new finch feeder you got, i have been surprised how many birds are eating the thistle besides the goldfinches. a nice variety this week, i have yet to see a junco!!

I love your birds, my favourite is the Dark-eyed Juncos, they are handsome.
The birds are very good company.
A wonderful variety of birds, Eileen. Your Goldfinches are still showing more of their yellow tones than ours who look almost greenish now. The nuthatches are such fun to watch as they climb around on trees and rush in for a seed and then take off.
Love seeing your yard birds again Eileen -- you have the best ever... they know where to find the good bird cafes. Thistle feeders are a good choice for the finches! I remember that from when we fed birds. At our new home here in Eugene we can have feeders, but I am conflicted about whether to put them up (next year) because we are gone in the winter, when they really need to be fed. I may end up just watching the neighbors ones.

Eileen - what a cool new feeder - I love the way it looks like a tree, and the reflections are a super bonus!! We still are not seeing many visitors at our bird feeders, although there is a spot in front of the garage that attracts at least two dozen pine siskins and crossbills that hang out together. Our winter visitors arrived about the same time only lesser numbers than usual. There is a large flock of chipping sparrows in the clear cut area. I like that birch bark feeder really nice! Enjoy your cooking!

What a lovely collection of birds visit your garden. Here we have lots of dark-eyed juncos and house finches, with a few chickadees, various sparrows, and hummingbirds. They are all so fun to watch.

I love all the birds you photograph and that you know the names of them. I agree with you on the cold weather walking. I have a few deeply forested places I can go when it is super cold and windy and it doesn't seem so bad.
You know us little wrens always know when there is some good nosh on offer - and indeed in a very posh bird feeder! I'm tempted to say I'll be round for the full-blown Thanksgiving dinner, it sounds a wonderful affair at your place too!

What a wonderful collection of bird photos! We have a woodpecker in our neighborhood, but we also have a family of Cooper's hawks. They prey upon the doves. They also love to stand in our bird bath!
Eileen, your photography is fantastic, and I always enjoy studying the names and features of the birds in your posts. I am no good at identifying my local birds, but before long I should do a much better job of identifying yours!

I love all your bird photos, Eileen. I just refilled my feeders this morning, suet and seed. It's a pretty mild day, probably in the 20s, but not windy and it is sunny. Every ray of sunshine helps! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Great pictures of your birds... My backyard birds are very similar to yours.....
I do have one special critter which you may not have---the Eastern CHIPMUNK..... I despise those little things --but we had a couple around on the deck today (eating the spilled birdseed)... AND these stinkin' little things were a bigger hit for my company (had 8 for Thanksgiving) than the precious little birds.... ha ha ha
