Our World, My World

Happy Monday everyone!

The beginning of May is usually a great time for seeing the migrant birds passing through our neighborhood and for seeing the local breeder return.  From my yard I can hear the Scarlet Tanagers, Ovenbirds and Wood Thrush calling loudly.

The Ovenbird is one of the loudest birds, when we go out for a walk on the fire road, their sounds come from every direction.

The Great Blue Herons get can get loud fussing with each on the nest. One day I watched a few herons chase a Bald Eagle away. My world has turned green and we are seeing various blooms in the yard and in the forest.

If you look closely you can see two herons nest, there is a heron at the top and just the heron's head on the lower nest.

We found around 6 Pink Lady Slipper plants along the fire road, they have been found growing in the same spots for years now.

The Pink Lady Slipper is a native wild orchid.

Thanks for your visit today!  I hope you enjoyed my post and photos.

You live in an enchanted place, Eileen. I don't think I have ever seen three Ovenbirds at the same time!

I have never heard of ovenbirds before, I'll have to google. Seeing those heron nests is just amazing - we have them here on the shoreline, but I've not yet seen a nest of theirs!

Hi Eileen,

You have always such stunning photos of birds. The one day I saw an Accipiter nisus (?) in my garden but the photo did not turn out so great. It is wonderful to watch the birds. I do that every day :) Happy MM.

Hej Eileen!

Nydelig orkide, sjelden vare.
Her snøa det og legg sitt teppe over landet, men den går fort bort.

Eileen - isn't spring just a wonderful season? The whole of nature is coming back to life! Yesterday we saw our first Glacier Lily (a native plant) blooming in the yard. So exciting to have some color! Thanks for sharing your birds and plant life with all of us at Mosaic Monday. Have a stupendous week!

Splendid photos Eileen. The Ovenbirds are new to me. I loved seeing the lady slipper as I have only ever seen it once and that was a few years ago when we joined a photo group. We were on one of the trails along Skyline Drive, and our guide got a call from another guide telling him about one he had found. Our group headed to the spot and we were all happy to take our turn at taking photos of this one little lady slipper.
