Saturday's Critters #329

Welcome to Saturday's Critters!

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

These are photos from our early March getaway to Delaware and Ocean City Maryland. I am so happy we took this trip before all the requests to stay safe at home and the park closures.  On the last morning,we left early in the morning, so we could visit a few parks on the way home.

Two birding spots were new to me and right off the highway we were taking to go home. Below a quickie stop at the Ocean City inlet before slowly heading home.  Top row is the Red-breasted Merganser, Common Loon. Middle row more Common Loons.  Bottom row is from W. Ocean City pond Gadwall and female Ring-necked Duck.

Click on images for a larger view.

Ocean City inlet, there were a lot of Gulls and Cormorants.

More ducks from the West Ocean City pond, a male Ring-necked Duck, 2 Tundra Swans, Gadwall, a Northern Shoveler. Bottom row are the Tundra Swans, Bufflehead Ducks and a pair of Ring-necked Ducks.

Tundra Swans, Northern Shoveler and guessing a Gadwall.

Below is another new spot for me was at the Berlin, Maryland @ Heron Park.  We saw a lot of ducks, of course they were all floating on the opposite side of the pond and lighting was not the best in the morning. Plenty of Ring-necked Ducks, Northern Shovelers, Redhead Duck and Ruddy Ducks.

A large group of Northern Shovelers seen in Berlin Maryland at the Heron Park.

Thanks to all my visitors and for all the wonderful comments. I appreciate everyone who loves critters and has linked up their post.

Here is a list of my linky parties;

Also visit:  I'd-Rather-B-Birdin. Thanks to the host Anni.

Fantastic serie of birds. I like Northern Shovelers. They look comical because they have a long beak.

I would love to see such a number and variety of waterfowl. We only see a few puddle duck species in our local lake. Stay dafe!

David M. Gascoigne, said...

That was a very productive outing, Eileen, with a great range if waterfowl. Our local areas are now yielding a wider variety and greater numbers, but migration northwards still seems a little spotty.

Tom said...

...I've always enjoyed seeing bird atop pilings! Take care and enjoy your day.

Eileen I see giant birds again! Those Tundra Swans look so big!!! I really hope I can see those big creatures someday. Plus those birds perched on the marina, what a sight! I'm sure they also make those seabird sounds that are quite loud but relaxing for me.

Beautiful shots, Eileen. I think we are all glad to have some photos in the archives now that we are confined indoors.

Your visit proved to be good timing Eileen. Lots of wildfowl to see and count. It's very annoying when the light and sun are straight into the lens I agree. In those circumstances I experiment with over exposing the subject but the result is never right, but often a little better. Stay safe this weekend.

I'm intrigued by the name Northern Shoveler, what are they shoveling up north, snow? You have a great eye for wildlife as usual, Eileen. No herons in Heron Park? I'm wondering when the Great Blue Heron rookery in Devil's Lake will start showing activity, I should check in since it's pretty close by. It's one of my favorite places to sit and watch.

Angie said...

Eileen - don't you wonder what gulls and cormorants did before there were man-made pilings? Perch in trees, I suppose. Nice to see such a wide variety of ducks and other birds. Thanks for hosting, and enjoy your weekend!

Hi Eileen, I am making my way, slow as a turtle crossing a road in Spring. I love the birds in the water, those Ring necked ducks, the Northern Shovelers are favorites around here too. WOW look how small the Double Crested Cormorants look next to those large Gulls. So beautiful all of them. I am so thankful when I can pop in and see everyone. I miss blogging on a regular basis, but one day soon...maybe...one day soon. ;) <3 Please take care of yourself and your family~
