Saturday's Critters # 374

 Welcome to Saturday's Critters!

Hello and happy Saturday!

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

Feb 12-15th, is our Great Back Yard Bird Count weekend. It is a citizen science project, share your love of birds.

Since I have not been anywhere, I only have some of my yard birds to share today.  I hope you enjoy, they are all beautiful.  I am cutting back my computer time to just once a week post on Saturday's. You may still see me commenting and visiting your blogs, just not as much.

1.  The Hairy Woodpecker with a Carolina Wren, a Gray Squirrel in the background is a male Cardinal, Pine Siskin with a Dark-eyed Junco and a Cardinal in the background.

2.  A closer look at the Pine Siskin and the Dark-eyed Junco is sitting in the feeder.

3. American Goldfinch, Northern Cardinal and a Carolina Chickadee.

4. A closer look at the Carolina Chickadee.

5. A single photo of the Hairy Woodpecker with the Carolina Wren.

6. A Northern Cardinal, lately I have been seeing 5-6 males and a few female Cardinals.

It would be nice to look out my window and see a "new to my yard" bird.  I have a wish list of "want to see in my yard" they are: Evening Grosbeak, Common Redpoll, Red-headed Woodpecker and missing this year Brown Creeper.  Some of these birds are seen in my area this year, but they missed my yard.  When I pass by my windows, I always look out just in case a new bird suddenly appears.

Thanks to all my visitors and for your comments. Stop back to see any replies to your comments. I appreciate everyone who loves critters and has linked up their critter post.

Here is my linky:

Also visit:  I'd-Rather-B-Birdin. Thanks to the host Anni.

Lovely birds! A cardinal has been singing in a bush by our driveway, but we have seen very few birds at the feeders recently.

It's thet hope of a rarer visitor that makes birding such fun! Keep looking Eileen - the rewards even of the regulars are not to be missed. YAM xx

One day Eileen , you will look out your window as usual, not expecting a new bird, and there it will be. Love those feather colours and all the feeders

Nice to see so many birds active in your yard. I like the Pine Siskin.

I don't have a feeder in my garden. If I have, I would be spending a lot of time watching the birds at the feeder. Bird watching is a very interesting past time.

Hello Eileen,
All the birds are beautiful but I have a real weakness for the Cardinal!
I always enjoy the variety of photos in your Saturday's Critters posts.

Hi Eileen,
Beautiful series of photos and collages.
It's great that you get all these varieties in your garden.
Here on the balcony not so many species that come to eat.
Would you like to post my link, I can't.
Be careful and stay healthy.

The Carolina Chickadee and the wren are cute birds and always a pleasure to see. And so are the woodpecker.
I almost did not recognize the goldfinch it looks so cute and fluffy in your shot. I am glad you still have this many species but new ones are always welcome of course. :)
Take care!

Great yard birds. We can't have a feeder, but the lake and neighborhood wetlands are a nice substitute. Yet, no hope to see a Hairy Woodpecker, a junco or Pine Siskin. Only had goldfinches in two out of the 16 winters we have lived here. In 2014 there was an invasion of Carolina Chickadees, but they usually don't make it quite down to southern Florida and they are common about a three hour drive to the north. Love the design of your hanging feeder.

Rostrose said...

Dear Eileen,
there are many birds in your yard that we never get to see in our country. Fortunately, we also have woodpeckers - but I only see (and hear) them in the forest, never in the garden. Such a beautiful red cardinal would of course also be on my wish list :-)
Happy weekend!

i have not seen a bird in our yard for months now. i do hear the screech owls and woodpeckers in the trees. even on my walk, there are only one or two doves, evne the hawks are gone. no idea why, it is hot here and they should be around. i don't put out food but 3 neighbors do and even their yards have none. love the blurred cardinal picture..

Hello Eileen,

Very beautiful photos. The Carolina Chickadee is so pretty. Enjoy your day, and have a great weekend!

From your wish list we have Common Redpolls this year. Several have been visiting for about a week now. Our next new bird for the season is most likely Pine Siskin. They are all around but have declined to pay us a visit so far.

The Great Back Yard Bird Count is a great idea, Eileen, we also have it here in Australia. It is a very useful census for birdlife, but also an excellent opportunity to teach kids about the environment, nature and sustainability. Lovely photos, as always.

I'm sorry you're not getting out as much as you would like Eileen. These are awful times for people who love the great outdoors. Never mind, it seems that your garden birds are numerous and colourful despite the predictability. If it's any consolation, we we are the same until the spring birds arrive. I hope your wishlist comes true. Thanks for the link today. Have a good day and stay safe.

Your birds look so much warmer than my wee ones. I took a step back from the internet during Christmas and am slowly returning. Also stopped all the covid research and news I was paying attention to. Feel much better now. You do what you have to do, Eileen. Stay safe is the main thing.

All wonderful birds Eileen, Great Backyard Bird count this weekend so hope you find a new one, the Pine Siskin and Purple Finch are coming in as rare, I guess they didn't get the memo to move on by now...lol. I got my first Rusty Blackbird right in my own backyard...and that was a thrill. We have buckets of rain and a cold 39 degrees this weekend, so my list will be via the window. Enjoy your weekend.

That Goldfinch is so pretty, and I always love to see photos of Cardinals! I used to blog three times a week, participate in numerous challenges and blog hogs etc...even scaling my blog time down to once a week proves to be a lot for me! The Evening Grosbeaks have all disappeared the last week. I wonder if they'll be back in the spring?

Hi Eileen, Happy Great Backyard Bird Count Weekend to you! :-) We had our first big snowfall in Seattle last night. It got down to 26F and I was anxious this morning to see if my hummer feeders froze up. They did, except for one I put a heater on! Yes, they make heaters for hummer feeders. Put some pics on my blog and linked up with you today. I enjoyed your photos today and I always am impressed with how many different kinds of birds you see. Thanks for sharing and hosting! Happy weekend (again) to you and yours. John

Hi Eileen
Congratulations of the birth of your grandson!! I was so happy to see the announcement this morning. You and your husband will love being grandparents..there is nothing as wonderful!
I loved seeing all your photos of the birds at your feeders. I really regret not being able to keep a bird feeder at my house. I tried a few times but the squirrels are too numerous and aggressive here and eat all the seed so quickly.
