Saturday's Critters # 387

Welcome to Saturday's Critters!

Hello and happy Saturday!

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

Since, I am only posting once a week I am behind in sharing photos. On this day April 19th, hubby and I took a walk at the Susquehanna River State Park and at the Conowingo Dam. We had wonderful sightings of the Bluebells and various wildflowers blooming. Amazing numbers of Bald Eagles seen up and down the river, Great Blue Herons at the rookery and what must have been thousands of Double-crested Cormorants.

Click on photos for larger viewing.

1. A Bald Eagle mosaic, these are all different Eagles seen in different spots along the river and near the dam.

2.  Two Bald Eagles sitting in a tree.

3. The Bald Eagles were up and down the river, a scene we usually see in November when the Eagles are migrating. In this one photo I counted 20 Bald Eagles.  How many Eagles can you find?

4.  This is the  same photo as above but I drew a line near some of the Eagles I found. In some spots there were 2-3 Bald Eagle together, I counted at least 20 there could be more.  I think on this day there could have been 100 Bald Eagles.

5. Below are 2 adult Bald Eagles and one Juvenile below on the rock.

6.  Juvenile Bald Eagle watching a few other adult Bald Eagles near by.

7. Two Great Blue Herons, three adult Bald Eagles, one juvenile Bald Eagle on the top right and a few Double-crested Cormorants.

8. The Bald Eagles were perched on rocks below the dam, along with the Great Blue Herons, Pigeons and the Double-crested Cormorants.

9. A pair of Bald Eagle nesting on the tower at the river.

10.  Another Bald Eagle in a tree above the trail.

Another post, I will share more of the other birds we saw at the river. We saw  Osprey, Great Blue Herons and the Double-crested Cormorants. The wildflowers were beautiful.

I am also linking up to Anni's blog party found here I'd Rather B Birding   Anni always has some beautiful birds to be seen on her blog, check it out!

Thanks to all my visitors and for your comments. Stop back to see any replies to your comments. I appreciate everyone who loves critters and has linked up their critter post.

How fortunate to see so many bald eagles. The upper left corner of Tennessee is supposed to be a great place to see bald eagles, but too far for us to drive these days. I'm so glad you get to see so much wildlife.

Hi Eileen,
What a great series of photos of these sea eagles.
So cool that you see so many, here in the Netherlands only a few pairs breed, once the bird was extinct here, luckily they are now back, but there are about 4 pairs.
Would you like to post my link, I cannot do that myself.
I wish you a nice weekend.
Greetings Irma

wow, that´s a lot of eagles and close enough to see clearly :) Love it!

We used to have a pair of ospreys in the countryside. I was checking the nest two days ago. It was empty :( Just a gull was in it :(

It must be a joy to see so many Bald Eagles. The most I can recall seeing in one place is around fifteen. I am so happy this glorious creature has made such a resounding recovery and is no longer subjected to gross and unreasonable persecution. I find a couple of your pictures above especially appealing, Eileen. They recall Robert Bateman paintings.

There can never be too many Bald Eagles in one photo. To think that they were headed towards extinction in the eastern US only 50 years ago. These are the 3rd to ~10th generations of the survivors after DDT was banned. Our south Florida juveniles and immature birds migrate north around May or June to find cooler water where the fish are closer to the surface. Some of those may be from the 1500 active nests in Florida. They return south towards November or December. Our adults tend to stay around the nest territory all summer.

Good morning Eileen. Oh you must know how much I love Bald Eagles and this is a wonderful post. I have had the most difficult time trying to post on Blogger. Somehow it kept showing that my site was dangerous and had alerts for phishing etc. Google finally got it worked out, as it posted last evening after fighting for the entire day. Happy weekend

what great captures of bald eagles, Eileen! And by the droppings left on those rocks, they must like hanging out there below the dam often! There may also be some fish somewhere around. Hope your weekend is super.

I am totally gobsmacked by the number of eagles in that one photo. What a sight and I had to think how important this particular waterway must be to the survival of these larger birds. Thanks so much for sharing this with us Eileen.

Simply amazing Eileen. You lucky lady. I would have been happy see one Bald Eagle so to see a hundred in one place on one day is beyond my wildest dreams. Great pictures and of course a great record for your local birders to include in their counts. Thanks for sharing and for the link today.

eileeninmd said...

Thanks Phil! This spot has been great for seeing the Bald Eagles. I think there are more photographers there taking Eagle photos than birders who would be counting the birds. The local bird club may have someone going there regularly.
Have a great weekend!

eileeninmd said...

LOL, I had to go back and re-read what I wrote for #7.. The juvenile eagle is mostly brown, it takes 5 years for the white head and tail feathers. Thank you Jean! have a great day and a happy new week!

I'm very impressed, dearest Eileen - I've never seen so many bald eagles in one place, not even in photos or in nature programs on TV. You wrote "a scene we usually see in November when the Eagles are migrating" - do you know the reason for this mass occurrence?

Hello Traude,
Thank you so much for linking up and for the comment. The Eagles seem to stop at this area heading south in the winter and stop again when they are heading north in the spring. we do have some that stay year round but not this many. It was a treat to see! Take care, I wish you a happy new week ahead!

You are so kind to reply to all these comments and to visit all these blogs, as you do mine. As far as bald eagles go, I so wish I could see just one. I believe they are here in our area, the Sierra Nevada mountains are just to the East, I watch the sun rise above them every morning. I've seen eagles here, but very few and no bald eagles like in these photos.

Hi Eileen, Wow, I really enjoyed all the eagle photos. Amazing to find that spot with around 100 eagles! And so interesting the way some of them were in groups. I have to wonder if they stick together as a family in those areas. It also interests me to see how well these birds get along together. I would have thought they were more territorial. Great Saturday’s Critters … thanks for sharing! Hope you and yours have a happy week ahead! John

Wow, so many Bald Eagles! Thank you for spotted them up. The light-colored leaves of this season is beautiful. When foliage is not so dense and thick, it'd be easier to find them on trees. Eagles look majestic, especially posing dignified in the last photo. Have a nice week.
