Saturday's Critters # 400

Welcome to Saturday's Critters  # 400

Hello and happy Saturday!

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

My first Saturday's Critter linky was on Dec 7, 2013. As long as I have critter lovers joining in with my critter party, the linky will go on and on. Thanks to all who participate with Saturday's Critters.

July 11th, we met up with a friend for lunch in York Pa. It was the first time meeting up since Covid started, at least a year and half went by. Hubby and I left a little early and took a walk around the Kiwanis Lake in York Pa to see the Great Egret and Black-crowned Night Heron rookeries.

1. The Kiwanis Lake in York Pennsylvania.

2. In the tallest pine trees across the lake are the Great Egrets and their nest.

3. A closer look at the Great Egrets at their rookery.

4. Most of the Great Egrets nest were in 3 tall pine trees standing close together.

5. The juvenile Great Egrets have grown a lot since our last visit to the rookery.

6. Various images of mostly juvenile Black-crowned Night Herons. On this visit we saw more juveniles than adult night herons.

7. A Slider Turtle is seen with 3 juvenile Black-crowned Night Herons.

8. A juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron standing on the pipe.

9. In the background and on the left side of the stick and the juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron is an adult Night Heron. The adult heron's and the nest must be hidden in all the greenery.

10. I count as many as 7 juvenile Black-crowned Night Herons below, some only small parts are seen.

I hope you enjoyed seeing these Great Egrets and Black-crowned Night Herons.  We had a nice walk, visit with the birds and our friend.

I am also linking up to Anni's blog party found here I'd Rather B Birding   Anni always has some beautiful birds to be seen on her blog, check it out!

Here is my linky:

YOU are all # 1.

Thanks to all my visitors and for your comments. Stop back to see any replies to your comments. I appreciate everyone who loves critters and has linked up their critter post.

Hi Eileen, I enjoyed seeing the Great Egrets and Black-crowned Night Herons. I am familiar with the Great Blue Heron, but I believe this is my first time to see the Night Herons. Thanks for taking us along on your walk around Kiwanis Lake. Congratulations on Saturday's Critters #400! Thanks for sharing and hosting. Happy weekend to you and yours! John

Hi Eileen,
What great photos and collage you could make during your walks.
Very nice that you have met your friend again after a year and a half, well covid has caused a lot of suffering and sadness.
Can you post my link, I can't do it myself.
I wish you a nice weekend.
Greetings Irma

400 critter posts! Congrats, I never managed to have even a huundred in my memes. :)
Also a great one to see that many Black-crowned Night Herons. The Black-crowned Night Heron was one of my "must see" birds when I was travelling. And to see all the juveniles. :) Wonderful.
The Great Egrets was also one of the "must see" birds. There have been a few visiting Sweden in later years. But I have not seen them.
Take care, and keep posting :)

Wow, that is a lot of teenagers flocking together... mischief afoot?! It is particularly entertaining among the herons, which one thinks of as a solitary bird on the whole. YAM xx

That is a very productive rookery. Viewing the slideshow full screen on my PC reveals lots of interesting detail. Our Yellow-crowned Night-Heron rookery was abandoned this season except for one pair of Green Herons which raised three chicks.

eileeninmd said...

Thank you Ken!
It is upsetting when a rookery is abandoned or fails. I would like to see the juvenile Green Herons, they are another favorite of mine. Take care, enjoy your weekend!

Wow, that is a wonderful milestone, Eileen. Those of us sharing your love of all the critters appreciate you providing this wonderful meeting place on the net. I've learned so much!
You got great photos of those large and impressive birds. They seem to have had a good year nesting wise which we love to know.

As always (since I've been following this meme) you have beautiful photos of critters to share. I wonder if the lake must have lots of fish also, to provide these rookeries with food for all those young'ums.

Such a beautiful park there Eileen. Made all the better of course by the breeding herons. I wish we could get some great Egrets breeding near me but at the moment the nearest ones are 150 miles away. Some of those young Night Herons look very young, as if they are able to leave the nest when quite small. This was a lovely day out for anyone.

Thanks for your link today. Enjoy your Sunday.

Such a beautiful area for a wander and how nice to meet with friends again. It’s been a long time.

Love those herons but the tortoise wins the day! I’ve never seen a rookery! Thank you for sharing.
