Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!
A break from my Ireland trip and photos. More of Ireland will be shared again soon. Today I am sharing some photos from our walk on the C&O Canal trail in Potomac Md and at the Great Falls Nat'l Park.
1. In the mosaic below are the Prothonotary Warbler, Green Heron, Black-crowned Night Heron, Eastern Bluebird, wildflowers, turtles, Great Blue Heron, Double-crested Cormorants, Mallards and Blue-winged Teal.
2. The Prothonotary Warbler, is about 5 1.2 inches, he was singing loudly and heard way before I was able to find him in the tree top. This bird nest in trees and there are nest boxes set up along the canal trail.
4. The Green Heron is seen every year in about the same spot close to the Riley's Lock parking area.
5. The Green Heron, one of my favorites. The breeding adult has a rust colored neck, a dark cap and a green back.
6. The Slider Turtles are enjoying the sunshine, resting on the rocks.
7. The Black-crowned Night Heron was seen on the canal side of the C&O canal trail.
8. The Great-Blue Herons have a rookery in the trees that line the Potomac River.
9. The Double-crested Cormorants nest along the river, a group of Cormorants is called a "gulp".
10. We saw at least 4-5 Blue-winged teal on the river.
11. A view from the Great Falls overlook.
Thank you for sharing your critters and post!

You know I always love your shots, Eileen - but the winner for me, today, is #7 heron! Stunning. (Sorry no participation my side this month - got a bit on, as you know!) YAM xx
Dearest Eileen; How gorgeous your Black-crowned Night Heron looks and Prothonotary Warbler's a bright yellow with dark wings really attractive for me. Love to see all the sweet brides you can find around you. This morning when I opened the window; I thought I heard a bird on the tree in front my house sung just a second. Haha, maybe flew away soon. Please keep letting me enjoy your beautiful birdies; Lot's of Love Miyako
So enjoyable Eileen. Some of my favorite birds too. Enjoy your weekend
Great photos of beautiful creatures. In the parks around here the turtles enjoy the sun too.

I am so jealous that you saw a Prothonotary! I would SO love to see one! You got amazing photos too....how great! Love your mosaic with the birds in this post. Happy weekend!
I love the word prothonotary. I'll have to see if I have a chance to see them here in Tulsa. I have only got a glimpse of a green heron before. They are beautiful. I love the names for groups of birds. A gulp for a group of cormorants is perfect.
Thank you for hosting.
Thank you Diane, I appreciate the link and comment. It was a treat to see the Prothonotary Warbler, they are beautiful.
Take care, enjoy your weekend.
Fabulous shots, Eileen. I'm always thrilled to see turtles in the wild so that is a good sign.
The turtles look at ease.
Thank you Alan! Prothonotary is a weird name for a bird, I looked up the meaning "a chief clerk of the court". Take care, enjoy your weekend!
Thank you RedPat! It is great to see any wildlife thriving, a good sign. Have a happy weekend.
Thank you William, I think the turtles found their happy place. Have a great weekend.
Fantastic number of species. Some of these we don't have like the two herons. But the great blue heron is quite common here. We don't have any turtles and we don't have prothonotary warblers.
Thank you Red! It was a treat to see all these birds, have a great weekend!
that warbler is gorgeous, what a bright and beautiful shade of yellow!! i rarely see green herons, but have and they are so pretty and a little mysterious!! your header image is spectacular...i don't know if that is from your trip or local to you!!
your local places really have a nice variety of critters, i enjoy seeing the turtles!! have a great weekend and many thanks for hosting!!

Lindísimos habitantes, pueblan esa hermosa naturaleza.
Feliz fin de semana. Un abrazo
Hi Eileen...I'm late to the party and without a critter this week. I had to look up " Prothonotary Warbler" -"The genus name is from Late Latin protonotarius, meaning "prothonotary", a notary attached to the Byzantine court who wore golden-yellow robes. The specific citrea is from Latin citreus meaning the colour "citrine".It was once known as the golden swamp warbler." Interesting to be the only bird in that genus!
Thank you for sharing all these wonderful sightings on your walk. That Black-crowned Night Heron and Green Heron drew me to them today. I haven't seen either in several years. Have a great weekend Eileen!
Thank you Carol, for the link and the comment. Take care, enjoy your weekend!
Thank you Barbara, for the information on the Prothonotary name and your comment. Take care, enjoy your weekend!

All the best Jan
Fantastic green heron photo and I always enjoy when you post pictures of the turtles!!
Muy feliz de pasear contigo por esa linda naturaleza. Las aves me encantan y vi el caparazón de una tortuga con un gran agujero, roto, me quede triste. Un abrazo.
Great shots! Interesting that a group of Cormorants is called a "gulp".
Good Morning Eileen!
I've never seen the Green Heron and the Black-crowned Night Heron. It's great that you can always learn new things on the internet!

Good morning from UK Eileen. I hope you are enjoying your Sunday. I think the Green Heron is quite stunning, such a marvellous mix of colours. And yes, it is interesting how the same species can be found in exactly the same spot year after year. Birds know precisely what they need from the environment. Love the Night Heron too, a species that we can sometimes see in the UK. Thanks for the link. Enjoy your week.
Thank you Jan! I appreciate the nice comment on the header, it was a pretty scene from Ireland. Have a great day and happy new week!

Wonderful photos of all the great birds in this post. Particularly enjoyed the pictures of the Warbler and the Green Heron. Thanks for hosting, have a Great Week!
These are so great - funnily enough I don't see that as an Irish landscape - but I've never been so what would I know?? HA!
Nice series of photos of critters as always, Eileen. I’m interested in the bright colors of Prothonotary Warbler as our Bush Warblers are drab green. I like to see turtles basking in the sun, especially in the green reflection.
Yoko
I love the male Prothonotary Warbler - the yellow tummy must hit to a sunny disposition :-)
