Saturday's Critters # 529

Welcome to Saturday's Critters! Hello and Happy Saturday!

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

Most mornings I put out some peanuts in the shells and some peanut suet nuggets for my back yard birds. The Blue Jays my most common yard bird. They arrive in large numbers making a lot of noise. They take as much as they can fit into their beaks/mouths.

1. I hope you are not tired of seeing the Blue Jays. They love to eat the peanuts and the suet peanut balls.

2. Later we took our walk on the NCR trail, we did a little shopping at the local grocery store we rode past the Friendly Farms ponds on our way home. On Jan 5th we saw a big flock of Canada Geese and various ducks on the ponds.

3. Some of the pond below has a thin layer of ice, you can see the Canada Geese are able to walk on the ice. The ducks were hanging out in a open water area of the pond.

4. A blurry view of a groups of ducks hanging out on the pond.

5. Below a nice variety of waterfowl, the male and female Buffleheads, the male and female Hooded Mergansers and an American Wigeon.

6. Who's hanging out with the American Wigeon below?

7. One of our first snows, was just a dusting. It melted quickly. Barely visible is a Blue Jay on the bottom left, eating some of the peanut nuggets.

8. The male and female Cardinals are daily visitors to my deck. They enjoy the little peanut nuggets.

9. The Blue Jays are another common yard bird for me, they love the peanuts in the shell. But, they we eat anything I put out there.

Thank you for sharing your critters and post!

Thanks to all my visitors and for your past and present comments. Stop back to see any replies to your comments. I appreciate everyone who loves and respects wildlife. Thank you for linking up a critter post.

The Blue Jay and the Cardinal get the "best lookers award". I see your first snow was a dusting only. We got some flurries here couple of weeks ago. It was quite cold though (for Dallas-TX). Thank you for hosting, Eileen. Have a Happy Weekend!

Good Morning, dear Eileen. It's dark outside here, the sunrise begins soon. I enjoyed reading again here. The birds, especially the blue are unknown for me. It's interesting to learn about. Thank you for sharing. Have a wonderful weekend.

One can never tire of seeing such vibrant colours as the Blue Jay's feathers in the dark and dreary late winter days! As for the Cardinal... what a flashy fellow... YAM xx

You've got a bustling backyard. Great photos of different species, my favorite is the last one.

Dear Eileen, I will never get tired of seeing blue jays. They are such beautiful birds with a lovely sky blue coloring - as I mentioned, the birds in our garden are mostly brown and black and white and beige (with a bit of green at best). Oh, and to top it all off, you also have the Cardinals, what a riot of color! 😉 I would be happy with more colorful garden birds - but I'm also happy to see the waterfowl! 😊
I'm now saying goodbye for a while and starting my recently announced blog break 😘🙋. Stay healthy - we will read again!
All the best, Traude

Hello Eileen! I finally managed to get my browser to allow me to leave a comment. (For anyone having the same issue, I had to clear the cache and quit the browser, then sign into google and that allowed me to comment.) A lovely set of photos and I love the blue jays, as well as the spectacular cardinal. Looks like it's cold in your neck of the woods, sending you some warm thoughts. It will be 39˚C in Melbourne... Thanks for hosting!

Wonderful winter shots of colorful birds! Thanks for your comments on my blogs! Love the little badge you have added. Now I'll have to go take some photos of critters! Have a great Saturday!

I like the bright blue and bright red of the jays and cardinals, so cheery on cold days. Diane and I way back in 2006 used to go to bray park with a bag of peanuts and have so much fun. throw several out and the squirrels came 6 to 8 at a time, the jays would sit in the trees and screech and then dive on the peanuts and snatch it away and up into the tree. we always had peanuts in the back of our cars to attrack our bird/squirrel shows.

Thanks for the comment Sandra. The Jays and squirrels do love the peanuts.
I think they sit in the trees and watch my door, just waiting for me to come out with more peanuts.
