Saturday's Critters # 540

Welcome to Saturday's Critters! Hello and Happy Saturday!

If you love all God's creatures like I do and also like to blog about them and take critter photos this is where you can share your critter post. Link up your post and share your critters, join in with my critter party ! You can share any kind of critters the real ones, pretend ones, statues and paintings, a new or old post!

I am away from my computer, I will be visiting your posts and commenting as soon as possible. Thank you for participating and for all your comments.

These are photos from our visit to Conowingo Dam and the Susquehanna River. We saw lots of Bald Eagles, Vultures and great view of the Great Blue Heron rookery.

1. The Bald Eagles both adults and juveniles were all around the dam area and river. Some were standing on rocks along the river, in the trees and perched on the dam sign.

2. On the photo below there are two juvenile Bald Eagles with one adult Eagle.

3. How many Bald Eagles can you find in the tree below? I found 8 eagles.

4. This Bald Eagle found something to stare at, a possible meal?

5. The warning sign at the end of the island. There were 2 juvenile Eagles with one adult.

6. The Black Vultures are plentiful at Conowingo. There are warning signs about these vultures eating the rubber off of car windows that are parked in the lot.

7. At Conowingo I think the Black Vultures outnumber the Turkey Vultures.  They hang out in big groups in the trees and on the ground.

8.  Here is a Turkey Vulture showing off it's wing span.

9. The Great Blue Heron rookery is on a small island in the middle of the Susquehanna River just a short distance from the Conowingo Dam. It is great to see so many Heron nests, they are doing well.

10. I always enjoy seeing the Great Blue Herons, they have a nice rookery at Conowingo.

11. It is amazing to see how many herons there are, on or around the tiny nest.

I am linking up to Heidrun's Mosaic Monday  I hope you can stop by and visit Heidrun and check out the Mosaic Monday post.

Thanks to all my visitors and for your past and present comments. Stop back to see any replies to your comments. I appreciate everyone who loves and respects wildlife. Thank you for linking up a critter post.

Hello, Eileen. Nice capture of the Turkey Vulture spreading its wings. I rarely see Great Blue Herons standing on such high branches. Have a happy weekend.

I would have loved seeing all of them. I really miss those birding days.

What a great place -- I didn't even see that many Eagles in one place in Alaska! Fabulous. We see those warning signs in the Everglades ; there are a lot of Black Vultures there too. It's a bit disconcerting to see that sign in the campground where we plan to stay

Hello Eileen,
Great photos from your visit to Conowingo Dam and the Susquehanna River.
I think it's great to see the Bald Eagles, here in the Netherlands there are only a few couples breeding, maybe 6 couples, that's all there are in the Netherlands.
I wish you a great weekend.
Greetings Irma

Hello Eileen,
As always beautiful photos. The Bald Eagles are very pretty. I love to see them. The Black Vultures are so pretty too. The black color is stunning.
Take care, and have a happy weekend!

I think herons are the only critters we have here! So interesting how close the eagles sit!
Thank you and I hope you had a great time away!

Here I am again, dear Eileen!
It never ceases to amaze me how many Bald Eagles you see on your excursions! We didn't see a single one on our current trip to the USA - neither in California nor in Utah, no idea if there are any there at all... (and not in New York City either - but I wouldn't have expected it there either.) I'm glad that so many of these birds exist. I got to know Turkey Vultures and Black Vultures in Costa Rica. They are not "beautiful", but they are useful in nature. I didn't know that they also eat the rubber off of car windows - I've only heard that about keas (which we unfortunately didn't see in New Zealand.) The sight of the Great Blue Heron rookery is also wonderful!
I wish you a pleasant weekend!
All the best, Traude

These are amazing. Eight eagles in one spot. Wow.
The rookery is amazing. Ours nearby was destroyed in a storm. I think they rebuilt one. I must go check!

Hello Eileen :=)
WOW! I have never seen so many large birds in one place before. Great shot of the Great Blue Heron rookery and the Herons of course :=) The Turkey Vulture with wings outstretched is a tremendous capture. I'm only guessing but for the Black Vulture to eat the rubber off car tires is a sign they must be desperate for something to eat, and there are too many of them to find enough carrion to sustain them. I feel sorry for them! On the other hand I would park my car far away and walk the distance to see them. I found eight Bald Eagles in one tree, ....amazing!
Thank you for hosting Eileen and for sharing these fabulous photos.
Enjoy your weekend
All the best
Sonjia.

I see eight eagles too. It’s terrific to see a healthy, thriving heronry with many breeding birds. We are visiting my daughter in Ottawa at present, and passed one on the way here yesterday.

Tom said...

...Eileen, you have more eagles here than I've ever seem. Thanks for hosting and I wish you a wonderful weekend.

What an impressive group you saw. I'm hoping to see our summer eagle (not optimistic.) The black vultures are a little creepy!

Hi Eileen, Wow, what a wonderful Saturday’s Critters! I am simply amazed at the Great Blue Heron rookery. I believe this is my first time to see something like this with so many GBHs around. Add on to that all the Eagle photos … wow, again. Thanks so much for hosting and sharing. I hope while you are away from your computer you are enjoying some travel to another fascinating location. Wishing you and yours happy times. John

I'm especially jealous of your eagle and vulture sightings. Nice pics!

It's always interesting to watch herons in a rookery as they are such big, clumsy, awkward birds.

Barbara Rogers said...

What great shots of birds that aren't seen much in my neck of the woods, except the Great Blue Heron sometimes fishes in nearby Lake Tomahawk.

Jo said...

Hello Eileen thank you for this incredible meme. I have linked my critter. And what a lovely post. I could see eight bald eagles. I've just been on my first bird walk since 2014. I will do a post on it. The birding tour leader said that dead trees attract many birds, especially raptors. Thanks for always commenting on my blog. Have a great Saturday. Jo

I'm always surprised when you show us the Herons up in the trees, Eileen. The Turkey Vultures have arrived back here - I saw a pair soaring around a favourite spot for them to glide just yesterday.

Hello Eileen,
Nice pictures. Great to see all these birds in their own habitat.
And so fantastic to see so many Eagles and Vultures. They are so special.
Wonderful.

Many greetings,
Marco

Great photos as usual! I feel bad for the Vultures who eat the rubber off the car windows. Are they mistaking it for something else? Wonder why they do that...I saw cows eating plastic grocery bags in India, which made me very, very sad. Thanks for hosting. Have a Happy WE!
