These are images from August, as usual I am behind sharing my photos. The photos are from my backyard, our walks to the lake, a walk on the NCR bike trail and on the local fire roads. I have more Alaska photos to share, they are coming soon.
1. In August I seemed to be refilling my hummingbird feeders often. This male below sits close-by one feeder, chasing away any hummingbird that comes close.
2. The Fritillary Butterfly along with the Black Swallowtails are common butterflies seen on our Buddleia Bush.
3. Aug 11, one of my backyard Ruby-throated Hummingbirds. On the bottom row are the Tufted Titmouse.
4. Aug 16th my back yard bunny.
Our walk on the local fire road I found an Ovenbird, it was quiet and seemed to be watching us.
5. Aug 18th , our walk to the lake. We saw a juvenile Bald Eagle, a Green Heron and the Canada Goose.
6. Aug 19th, a Black Bear was seen on our deck and it got into our trash can. This visit was almost a month later than the previous bear visit. We thought it would be safe to put out our trash can. The bear also drank water from the bowl we had out for the Peacock. The previous Black Bear visit was on July 11th. I am not sure if this recent bear was one of the two that visited in July. The first bear sighting was on May 3rd, we were walking on our local fire road and we saw the bear foraging in forest along the trail. It is amazing we have seen more bears in our back yard than we saw in Alaska.
7. Aug 20th our walk on the local NCR bike trail. We saw a few deer, wildflowers and an Eastern Phoebe hanging out near the river.
8. Aug 23rd, I finally was able to find two Monarch butterflies on our Buddleia Bush. Bottom row more common butterflies seen were the Fritillary butterflies.
Aug 30th, the male Cardinal flies to the deck railing when he sees me come outside with the bag of peanut nuggets.
Aug 31st, our walk on one of the local fire roads at Prettyboy watershed. The birds on the top right photo are two Eastern Kingbirds, a Box Turtle, insects on milkweed plant, Eastern Phoebe and a White-breasted Nuthatch.
This post takes me to the end of August, except for two days we visited Bombay Hook NWR in Delaware. I will share those photos in a separate post.
I am linking up to Heidrun's Mosaic Monday I hope you can stop by and visit Heidrun and check out the Mosaic Monday post.

Impressive to see so much in your back yard. I guess a bear is really special, though maybe not wonderful to have with you.
Thanks for hosting critters!

We are busy in the early morning... therefore I read your post on afternoon, dear Eileen, and write than a comment...
Hello Eileen,
Beautiful photos of the birds, the butterflies and the bear! It must be terrifying to have black bear so close to home? I had been afraid of them.
Take care, and have a great weekend!
Hello Eileen,
A beautiful series of photos and collages of your backyard.
The Ruby-throated Hummingbirds are really beautiful, I also think the butterflies are very beautiful.
Oh my god a black bear on your terrace, I don't want to think about it, we can only see these animals in a zoo, wolves have again come here in the Netherlands now.
I wish you a very good weekend.
Greetings Irma
Your backyard critters are awesome!
There was a bear in - if I remember correctly - South Germany years ago. They named him Bruno and he was in the TV-news German-wide every day. They called him "problem-bear" and discussed what to do, in the end they shot him dead.
You shot, too, but just with a cam and reckon yours was not on TV America-wide, either...
I think if I found one on our tiny balcony (we live ground floor), I´d panic ;-)
More bears than in Alaska is a bummer, really! Have a great Saturday!
Adorei acompanhar cada acontecimento em sua data!
Lindos bichos apareceram pra enfeitar!
O urso me daria medo de ver pertinho assim!
As borboletas lindas.
Tudo perfeito! Ótimo fim de semana! beijos, chica

My posts help me to remember what and when I see the wildlife.
Take care, have a wonderful weekend.
I hope the bear doesn’t become fixated on your house! The turtle is really wonderful and the insects on the milkweed are Large Milkweed Bugs (Oncopeltus fasciatus). They are very common in late summer/early fall.

I'm both charmed and alarmed at your ursine visitations... And enamoured, as ever, by your backyard variety show! YAM xx

Amazing series of photos, Black Bear looks wonderful, Thank you so much for hosting. Loved this post. Happy weekend.
Those bears! They have long memories, but fortunately a wide territory.
Your photos are terrific! Our insect-eating birds have gone for the most part. Nice to see them here.

Thank you Tom, for your link and comment!
It seems the bears like our neighborhood.
Take care, have a great weekend.
Hi Eileen, so good that you keep this meme going each week! Loved seeing your hummers and monarchs especially. The bear, not so much. Poor little guy just going where he thinks he might get a meal, but not a good idea to come on your deck! I'm sharing from the internet mainly this week, but have enjoyed seeing birds and squirrels here in my home away from home.
The bear wins the day. Love the hummers, butterflies and all the birds. A turtle always grabs my attention too. Great post, Eileen.
What a menagerie you have in your back yard, Eileen! All of them beautiful and well captured. I hope your week is going well. Thank you for hosting. (Nick from MAP).
Beautiful colourful nature captured. Love your header!
Happy weekend!

Nature is beautiful!
Take care, have a great weekend.
I was mesmerized by your header, Eileen. Absolute serenity!
I thought squirrels getting into things on my deck was a problem but it is nothing compared to your bear, Eileen. That is scary.
I put a nut feeder out this summer and the squirrels clean it out before the cardinals get a chance.
Amazing the bear sightings that you had and that you have more in back yard than you did in Alaska.
Love that you know the names of all the birds you see.
Bears are interesting characters but I would not like to have them in the neighborhood.
I don't know which I enjoyed the most..the birds or the butterflies or that collage. I do know I want to revisit on my computer.
Wonderful critter photos, Eileen. Yikes! That's really amazing to see that bear on your deck making himself at home. Happy October to you!
Awesome series of critter photos ~ including the black bear ~ favorite is the bunny rabbit ~ hugs,

I saw one Monarch this morning at my deck flowers. It has been a day or so since I last saw a Hummingbird. I left my feeder up just in case. The bears seem to be seen more often in this area the last few years.
Take care, have a great weekend
Cute bunny!
Good morning Eileen, I'm so thrilled to read that your peacock is still around ours is as well, he lives still in our pole barn and comes and goes freely. He knows his scheduled feeding time and the other day I was later than usual, and he was waiting at the backdoor, and that was a first. Since we've been drawing raccoons, we're keeping our aluminum can for critters (bird seeds and cat food) in our garage as well as the garbage, otherwise they dig into it all. Yes, we have some barn cats that live elsewhere but enjoy our place too! Thanks for sharing your August views incredible photos.
I’m excited to hear you have more Alaska photos to share as well. It sounds like you have a wonderful collection of critter encounters from your adventures.
Thank you for inviting everyone to join your critter party—it's a wonderful way to connect and celebrate the beauty around us!
Wishing you a fantastic weekend! I'd love for you to check out my new post: https://www.melodyjacob.com/2024/10/my-visit-to-hunterian-art-gallery-in.html

The peacock spends more time at our neighbors house. But, he comes here to visit. This morning I heard a loud thump, I thought something hit the house. It was the peacock, it jumped on our roof. Take care, have a great weekend
Thank you Melody, for your comment and visit!

Lovely Critters. I was able to take part this week. I joined you in photographing two of the last types of butterflies in my yard. Thanks for hosting.
Wow, you got black bear and bald eagle this week. These are special views
Wonderful critter pictures. Cute rabbit.
The bears around our house just stay in the woods and run away when we see one.
Eileen I would not be happy to have a Black bear anywhere near my property!! I am hoping no snakes come my way either!! Lovely shots of the butterflies. Thanks for hosting and commenting. Have a great week ahead.
What a fantastic mix of critters! Your backyard sounds so lively with hummingbirds, butterflies, and even bears—wow! The Fritillary and Swallowtails on the Buddleia are beautiful, and seeing a juvenile Bald Eagle by the lake is amazing. Can’t wait to see your Alaska photos, but your local wildlife is pretty awesome too! Thanks for sharing!

Thank you Veronica, for your critter link and comment!
I am lucky to live in an area that is full of wildlife.
Take care, have a wonderful week!
I like to read your posts and guess the species of birds before I read what they are. I am about 50/50 on the songbirds, the others a little better. I was wondering, do you like the bear visits or wish it would just go away. While I think they could be a pain, I like the fact it shows up and knowing that nature is out there.
Thanks for the comment! I do enjoy seeing the bears in my yard. But, I have mixed reactions, I do not want them to hanging around to much looking for food. That can be a problem, for the bear for us and our neighbors. Have a great day and happy week ahead.
Beautiful pictures. It is amazing that the bear came for the water that you put out for the peacock!
Thank you Linda, for your link and comment. It was just amazing to see the bear on our deck. Have a great week!
