A mish-mash on daily walks and outings with our dog Miney, birdwatching from my backyard or on the Prettyboy Fire Roads.

1. May 9th, seeing the bluebirds in my yard this season just makes me happy. I hope to see their babies!
"The bluebird carries the sky on his back."
The bluebird is a symbol of hope, happiness and joy.
2. May 10th, in the backyard a Bluebird and a Mourning Dove are having a conversation.
3. May 10, we took our walk on another local fire road, wildflowers Fleabane and I am not sure what the tiny yellow wildflowers are called.
I am hearing the Great-crested Flycatcher calling while on our walks and from my bird yard. They are brownish upper parts and yellowish underparts and a bushy crest.
4. May 11th, Some blooms from our yard, the Columbine, Siberian Iris, Bluebird sitting in Pine tree and I am not sure if the plant bottom right is called Spiderwort?

The House Wren is one of my loudest yard birds, a small bird only a little over 4 inches. This wren is brown with pale to white underparts.
5. May 12th, my backyard we have the Siberian Irises blooming, I saw a cute bunny, our Rhododendrons are looking beautiful.
6. May 12th, the Worm-eating Warbler is a drab looking warbler with black and buffy stripes on its head. I have been hearing this bird calling from off the local fire road when I am walking Miney.
7. May 12th, I see and hear the Blue Jays in my yard and often on the fire road while we are out walking Miney.
8. Flashback from last year May 2024, the Scarlet Tanagers have returned to Prettyboy Watershed and my back yard. The male Scarlet Tanager is a lovely color red with dark wings. During mating/breeding season I hear these birds singing while I am out walking Miney on our local fire roads.

Bonus, July 3rd is my granddaughter Sophie's 1st birthday.. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our sweet Sophie.

First birthdays are so precious, and I'm wishing your granddaughter an extra special one. We had a group of young Blue Jays today visit our garden before moving on. They were very vocal. I downloaded the Merlin App, but have not used it yet. How wonderful to see Bluebirds and that gorgeous Pink Lady Slipper. Your garden looks very beautiful this early summer.
The Bluebird and the Blue Jay are so beautiful. I like the blue color. The Columbines and the Siberian Iris are very pretty. Sophie is very sweet!

The mid wife said to my brother (and she was experienced), that was the loudest baby she ever helped with.
And really, when I met her the first time.... WOAH! The Blue Jay looks pretty, too, but the Scarlet Tanager steals the show!

The MERLIN app is absolutely amazing. Sadly, of little use to me now as a "city dweller", our main residents being pigeons! But it is delightful to visit here and enjoy the beauty and wealth of our flying friends that live elsewhere. And always good to see Miney out on walkabouts. Last, far from least ... Happy First Special Day little Sophie!
So glad to meet the flycatchers with the fuzzy crest! Love seeing the colorful birds, but listening to all of them in early summer mornings is certainly a wonderful experience. Pats to Miney and wishes for many more happy birthdays for your little granddaughter.

Bluebirds are a favorite of mine. Beautiful birds. Last summer when we still lived in Oklahoma, a Great-crested Flycatcher used to perch on the porch railing and watch us through the window. I miss all the birds in ranch country now that we are back in Illinois.

I love all your bird photos and the woods you go walk in are just full of different kinds of birds. The Merlin app is wonderful for picking up birds. So, even if I can't see them I can tell what is singing.
We get house wrens every once in a while. So amazing that that loud voice comes from such a tiny bird.
