"In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." John Muir

We seem to be stuck with this super cold weather. I try to get outdoors for a walk, Hubby and Miney are my walking companions.

Click on images for better viewing.

1. These are images from our walk on the fire road to the lake. I saw a juvenile Bald Eagle sitting on the ice covered lake. After our walk we drove around the other side of the lake to the boat dock and saw a few Common Mergansers.

2. The first day of the New Year we had a dusting of snow.

3. Another walk with hubby and Miney on the local Prettyboy fire road.

4. A walk with Hubby and Miney on the NCR bike trail in Parkton Md.

5.  We started off our walk on the bike trail with the Pileated Woodpecker seen eating berries high in a tree top.

6.  We saw  10-12 Cedar Waxwings in a tree next to the NCR Bike trail in Parkton, Md.

7.  Two White-throated Sparrows, they are winter birds in my area.

8. Can you find the two deer?  We saw six together but they must have separated.

9. Hubby and Miney take a break sitting at a picnic table.

I am linking up to Heidrun's Mosaic Monday   I hope you can stop by and visit Heidrun and check out the Mosaic Monday post.

Beautiful variety! Loved seeing all these amazing critters.

Animals have a hard time in winter, battling the cold and fighting for food. Yes, the two deer are recognisable. And so are the various birds. These are beautiful pictures from my walk with Minnie.

Thank you for sharing and for hosting Saturday Critters. Take care and have a good week.
Greetings by Heidrun 🐈

Hi Eileen,
Great photos and collages of your walks with your husband and dog.
This is the second time we've had snow here, the last time it snowed was five years ago.
I wish you a wonderful weekend.
All the best, Irma

For once I can say: Refreshing pics with the snow! Is just kinda jogged to the shopping center in the heat to find it closed... it is wonderfully hot here in Australia :-)

Lucky for you that you still get to see some sweet critter sights even though it is so cold! It's good to be out there no matter what as long as it is comfortably safe!

You seem to be much luckier than we are in the weather department! Here, not much snow but too cold to go outside (often near 0°F, rarely up to 20°F).
Have a good week!

That road looks like a great spot.
We've -20 C. today. So cold! Today I have to wear ear muffs.

How the birds survive this cold weather amazes me. I always enjoy your walks, Eileen!

Hello Eileen,
I like to see your pictures. It looks like you have very little snow. Miney looks great as always. I can see the two deers, but they were very well hidden.

Dear Eileen, I enjoyed going for a walk with you again – all bundled up against the cold. That's the bonus of having a dog: you get out in any weather. Sometimes you'd probably rather stay indoors – but it's like the quote at the beginning of your post: ultimately, walks like these offer a reward in any weather. Otherwise, you wouldn't get to see juvenile bald eagles, common mergansers, pileated woodpeckers, or deer. And I think, ultimately, it's a joy for you and Hubby (and for Miney, of course) to be out and about.
Please give sweet Miney another pat for me.
All the best, Traude

The fire road is a dirt road going through the forest, providing access to emergency crews to fight wildfires.

Jeanie said...

It's nice you can walk on the fire road -- probably not traveled by vehicles and if it is by a fire truck, you don't want to be out there anyway!

Hi Eileen! Happy February! We spent our day so far on a nice neighborhood walk. I hope the giraffe sculptures towards the end of my post will be considered "Critters" ;) This has been such an unusual winter with the west hot and dry, the Midwest with extreme sub zero temps and the east burdened with deep snow and cold. Let's hope spring will be better for all!
